As the number and kinds of Pokemon are increasing by the hundreds each generation, we start to see some that share some traits with pets or real animals. So here are my questions to you;

Has Pokemon changed your view on animals?

If so, how and why?

If not, why?

Um, yeah, Lilipup was based on the Yorkie. XD

Yes, that was the point of the title. To indicate the fact that Pokemon are looking like and being based on animals as the numbers of species grow. I grabbed the info on Lilipup from Bulbapedia, plus it's sort of easy to tell by looking at it, hahaha.

Heck yes. Every time I see my friend's pet rat, I imagine it being purple and knowing Hyper Fang.

If so, how and why?
I gave a pretty reasonable example just now. :)

If not, why?
This is not applicable. FAIL.

Well not really, the only pokemon that has changed my perseption of an animal is that one mudkip was based on (the names flew out of my head though >.<)

But i do sometimes see pokemon as animals, like all my lilipups are called pady after a silver yorkshire terrier that my grandparents friends own <3

It's an axolotl. I love this animal, it's so cute. I first saw one in my biology book, but never associated Mudkip to it until recently haha.

My perception on animals didn't change at all. I just wish my cat could walk and talk like Meowth =P.

Some pokemon, yes - like I can't think of carps in any other way other than magikarps xD

Well seeing as Pokémon creation ideas are normally inspired by an animal, fish, etc. I found it weird how they always described Pikachu as a 'mouse' Pokémon, yet there are no mice in the Pokémon world, just Pokémon :P

I get super annoyed every time I see Persian. Have the English namers of Pokemon ever seen a Persian? My family bred them when I was younger.

Never has Pokemon affected my view on real animals. I just wish my dog would learn Hyper Beam! Px

It would be interesting if my cat could learn toxic and shadow ball.

Not to mention whales creating enormous tidal waves able to swamp quite a large area of water. I always portray the baleen whales as wailmer or wailord , and the orcas as miniature Kyogres.

What do you mean my dog isn't going to grow a super cool moustache and grow another 30cm when it reaches 32-years-old?

...

What do you mean my dog isn't going to live to 32?

Yorkies made me hate lillpup. I want to punch lillipup in the face for look like a defensless idiot. Herdier looks the best(and tbh is the only one that looks properly like a yorkie) and stoutland is an old goat like thing. But stoutland is awesome, lillipup is not.

Lol at persian. Persians are fluffy, pokepersian is not. Maybe nintendo should take a little time researching their animals and breeds before they go basing pokemon off them??

Not to knock my fave Pokemon but it does seem like Nintendo just took a random cat species name and slapped it on Persian:/

As for the topic, some animals I associate with Pokemon, and some I don't. When we set up mouse traps in the storage shed, I'll sometimes joke that we'll catch a Rattata or Pikachu in it :P
