View Full Version : WHY does it double-space???

Okay I am getting very annoyed at something that always happens when I use PC. A lot of the time, I will type my posts and PM’s and stuff on MS Word before I post them on PC. But this presents one really maddening problem….WHY, WHY, WHY does everything I type on word have double-spacing once I post it????? If I copy directly from word, all of my stuff ends up with a double-space for everything. For instance, if I press enter once now…(Im typing this on word)

See what I mean? I just pressed enter once and when I posted this it jumped down two lines instead of one. It’s REALLY annoying and can anyone tell me why it keeps happening and how I can change it? Because at the moment I have to do a real annoying process: Type it on word, paste it to hotmail where it doesn’t double space, copy from hotmail then paste it on PC to post it. It’s a waste of time >_>.

I'm not really sure why it does that for you (it doesn't seem to do it for me, even if i write in double spacing on Word then paste :\ ), but there is a way of stopping it once you've pasted it into PC (well, i presume this function would work on here, but i havent been able to try it since i cant double space ^^; ). If you backspace once you've pasted so that it's all joined together, and then click Shift>Enter (since i presume if you press enter it would jump down to double spacing again) that should make it go down to just the next line.
Sorry i cant be of more help ^^;

o_O That's never happened to me. Try writing it in Notepad then pasting from there.

But i think she's using word for the spell-check, which notepad/wordpad don't have ^^;

Can we perhaps get a spell check installed on PC? I don't know if you can get one for vB but I know SMF and other forums systems have them.

I'd be happy with that spell-check idea, it was talked about in a previous thread, but i don't know whether steve liked it (but let's keep that topic to the other thread)

I think there's an option for it somewhere, but I could be wrong. I uninstalled Office a long time ago. @_@

If you go onto Tools >Options > Edit then click the Settings button, it shows your settings for pasting text.
Make sure that "Adjust paragraph spacing on paste" is unchecked.

Yes there is a New Spell Check hack in PC which as far as I know has been rejected by the other Admins~~Then again I type my stuff in Notepad which you can try too.
The Main reason word is doing it is cause The Paragraphs Alignment & Line Breaks are different there.Try Setting Everything To Normal Soph.

M$ Word is adding a extra return character to your lines.. the editor in PC 'sees' this as another enter (line break) and adds the new line..

also the use of paragraphs in word WILL translate to a double line break on PC ...

Now as for the spell check.. we've installed the required server software (pspell - a php module) and can now attempt the spell check hack on PC... hopefully soon we'll have it.

Okay, so if MS word is adding an extra return character to my lines, how do I change it? Its extremely annoying. I cant post my fan fic because I put a return before each person speaks (Dialouge) in my fan fics, like this:

Andy: Hello
Soph: Hello to you too (This is an example)

But when I do it on word all my diolouge pastes like THIS when I put it on PC:

Andy: Hello

Soph: Hello to you too

ITS REALLY PEEING ME OFF since then all my posts go waaaaaayyy over the char limit and I cant post my fic without it looking crazy >_>

Did ya do this, soph:
If you go onto Tools >Options > Edit then click the Settings button, it shows your settings for pasting text.
Make sure that "Adjust paragraph spacing on paste" is unchecked.
That should *fingers crossed* stop any interpretation of paragraph breaks

I paste from Wordpad if I need formatting. That works fine for me.

I just kind of live with it. It isn’t so bad, except maybe on huge posts. But those are few and far between, so I don’t mind going back and taking out the extra returns in them.

Im running Windows 2000 but the guy who did my computer for me used some weird shortcut or something in installation; my computer has some 95 components and files, too. I dont understand what he did, but honestly...I dont know what version Word is.
