I like signatures and all, but lately I've been seeing some that are so long, they take up more than a screen when you scroll. And they have, like, 5 banners and countless animated sprites. Shouldn't there be some sort of signature rule? I'm not suggesting something strict like 2 pictures and 3 links per signature, but seriously, really long signatures are just uncalled for.

And I'm not going to turn signatures off because I like them.

For awhile, I didn't mind. But now i'm really annoyed by them.

Longer signatures should be shortened. <<

We’ve got a rather vague rule that doesn’t account for text, but it isn’t really followed. We’ve tried warning people for them, but a lot of the mods have kinda quit doing that, and it’s difficult for the seniors to always keep on top of it. We could use a more concise rule, though. You’re certainly welcome to PM an smod or higher if you see any, though we shouldn’t be totally dependant on member reports. =\

We tried a javascript (I think?) sig limiter, and it worked for the vertical part, but the horizontal width was fixed, so it scrunched centered sigs up.

yeah, some of them are really starting to get annoying. 'Specially the ones that take up a full page, and are full of random text. I'm all for randomness, but man, dont take up my screen with it Oo

I personally agree. ^^; Signatures have been quite long lately, and they are taking up a lot of space. People decide to put in so many new pictures, and not even think about how long its going to be. The length also effects the look of peoples signature., If its to long, it will look pretty bad. Its getting very annoying. >.O

Well, it does take a lot of time for the pages to load sometimes if the people's siggies are really long. XD

But I think maybe we could just limit the number of piccies. That's what's really causing the problem with loading. ^^; We don't have to go all psycho freakazoid on sigs, but maybe stricter rules will make people listen to them. ^_____^

Finally, someone else gets it! I remember numerous occasions where I brought up how big sigs these days are... The whole point of a sig is to say something that always appears after your post, not to clutter it with images. If we're gonna keep images in sigs, we should place a limit of no more than 1 image (I think smilies are separate, aren't they? o.O).

Yeah you are right. The signatures are just little additions to show off the users personalyity and creativity by putting in a banner, some text, and mabye a link or two. I think we should lower the signature length down to 5 or 4 hundred.I like signatures and all, but lately I've been seeing some that are so long, they take up more than a screen when you scroll. Well on the subject of Signatures, could someone tell me if mine is too big. I haven't been asked to shorten it or anything but I just wanna know because I don't mind shortening it a little ^^;

We don't even need 400. Something like 256 should be plenty.

Stevo, yours is kinda big. Try using size 1 text, or removing that club list. ^^;

I don't think its that big, steve..... or at least it doesn't bother me...

What bothers me are HUGE meaningless signatures with thousands of banners and with some of them which are not even centered well >.<
They're just annoying to scroll down, ugly and they take tiem to load -.-'

In other forums we actually have the signatures' characters limit, but that's just crap because it counts for images URLs too, so if an image URL is long you have less space for text xD
I think it would be good if simply dealt by staff: If they see a siggy which is too big, they can just PM the person asking them to shorten it or at least to sort it out... because some are awful >.<
Or if like someone sees a signature that annoys him/her/it for its lenght, they can just PM a staff member and tell them... as simple as that. It can even reduce the work of staff members on checking signatures ^^

And btw, mine is made to be annoying xD!!!

And btw, mine is made to be annoying xD!!!you dont care cause yours is in violation. You image cannot have a height more than 300! The taller the image the longer it stretches the page each time you post. Read the rules and you would know that one.

Personally think the image rule should be stricter mabye 500x200 instead of 500x300

There are too many oversized signatures, the staff would be busier than they already are. Oh, and NiNGi, your sig's oversized.

NiNGi
January 9th, 2005, 07:23 PM
XD!!!! I have already been told to resize it, and I did :P

And anyways, the limit is 500x300, but I put it 300x500, does it change anything? :P

EDIT: And I tell you, there are signatures which are WAY bigger than mine, and though they're not against the rules because they don't have any big image, they just have thousands of em xD

And anyway, mine is annoying, and proud of it :P

Yes it does, because you're breaking the rules. o.O

read the edit dude xD
*likes his new annoying sig* :P

I say, that if you violate the signature rule once, you get a warning from the staff.

If you violate if again, you loose your signature permission. Aye?

NiNGi
January 9th, 2005, 07:36 PM
Yeah right..... then we become some kind of dictatorial government :P
I have been told today that my pic was too big, so I shortened it, and u still say it is!
But it wouldn't be cool if its too small! It's just not the same! xD

Ok I have resized mine and it still looks ok XD.

mmm Yeah it actually looks even better like this, Steve ^^

*grumbles* who doesn't like my siggy???? xD *points a gun at everyone* xD

EDIT: Noooooooo I got my siggy deleted! darn it! xD You people cannot handle the truth :P

It was me, and you can check out the sticky for the reason why.

NiNGi
January 9th, 2005, 07:50 PM
ok, so now tell me, am I breaking any rules for the new one??? xD ROFL!

I hope you get my point. the rule is useless if people can put plenty of images and still overcome it xD!!

NiNGi, it's still a bit big. Meh, what do I care, your sig made me laugh. XP

It wasn't taken out for size. It was taken out for content.

NiNGi
January 9th, 2005, 08:02 PM
duuuuuh...... This is exactly what Kairi was telling me now o.O'

But that ishn't a swar word >.<

Claire
January 9th, 2005, 08:03 PM
Content more importantly than size, yeah.

I think it may be an idea to have a length limit rather than just a single image size limit -that way people would have more of an idea and wouldnt complain as much when sigs are editted ^^;
Maybe the length could be in both pixels and centimetres just to give more of an estimate -there have been some sigs that i havent been too sure about length-wise, so a limit would be great.

Kipkip
January 9th, 2005, 08:09 PM
Why don't we just not have signatures? If people abuse the rule, then why have them? It sovles everyone's problems.

Claire
January 9th, 2005, 08:11 PM
Kip-kip that's a little drastic ^^;
I think if actual size limits for the entire sig were created then the sig rules would be easier to follow and less sigs would be oversized

NiNGi
January 9th, 2005, 08:14 PM
LoL!!! Isn't that a bit harsh, Kip-kip? xD!!

Anyways, I'm sowwie if my siggy offended anyone o.o'
I was actually PMed first for the size of it, but never told about the potentially offensive content o.O... I apologise for anyone who was personally offended o.O'

No sigs would make me really mad XP. It is hard to obay the rule though.... You should make something like an announcement that said No signatures bigger then 500X500 Pixels (or whatever) in length.

Thanks,
Aaron

well i ok with sigs but when you post a post that is two or three sentances and then you have like a huge, and i mean HUGE sig. then that is annoy.

since everybody asking. is my sig like too big.

Spectrum
January 9th, 2005, 09:56 PM
It's alright, your sig is about the maximum size any sig should be. Still, it wouldn't hurt to shorten it a bit.

Aaron, it wouldn't make any difference. If they choose not to read the rules, they're asking for it.

It's 500x300 for a signature limit. We try to modify their signatures, but not make new rules. If they fill their signatures with a MSWord page worth of stuff, they asked for the sig to be cleaned. S-Mods+ follow signature rules we have, and they won't change any time soon just because of rulebreakers.
