Remember everyone tonight, Sunday January 9, 2005 PC will be shut down at approx 23:00 (11:00PM) PST (that's west coast USA time) GMT -8 for an update to our vB.

During this time you'll recieve a message saying PC is down/closed for maintanence and to try later.. the update should take approx an hour..
After the update, any hacks/modifications we had, may or may not be availble to use, but we'll re-add them as soon as we can.

Staff and admins: DO NOT USE THE BOARD DURING THIS TIME PLEASE

Post any comments and concerns?

Thomas-san
January 9th, 2005, 02:28 PM
Will the boards be updating to 3.0.4 or 3.0.5??? I didnt get the deal with them being released so close.

Also what times are those for central time?

Kairi
January 9th, 2005, 02:31 PM
Aww, I want to spam up the board while it’s down. It could be our little admin playground! ^_^

Teasing. None I can think of…do you have the report hack ready incase it breaks, to reinstall?

ravenstorture
January 9th, 2005, 02:57 PM
This shouldn't alter currents threads/post count etc. Correct?

Eliana
January 9th, 2005, 03:29 PM
Ooh, that would be irritating if it would eh?

Kairi
January 9th, 2005, 03:40 PM
It won’t have any effect on postcounts or any other database related items.

Illyria
January 9th, 2005, 03:43 PM
Nah, it's an upgrade. Upgraders are designed to keep everything intact. The only things that may be affected are certain hacks, like Steve and Abby said.

But, you know, this isn't such an important deal that we need an announcement on it. There may be several more releases coming after this, are we going to make announcements for each one of those? Like you said, it only takes an hour. We can live without PC for an hour. o.O

Koroku
January 9th, 2005, 03:46 PM
If Steve does it right, by doing the modificications by hand, nothing should be broken at all.

Eliana
January 9th, 2005, 03:50 PM
Oh allright, just making sure ^^ thats good.

Kelsey
January 9th, 2005, 04:00 PM
Weee, an upgrade, sounds exciting. =D I do like it when we get upgrades, it's nice that you all keep PC up to date, it just makes PC a better place to be. ^o^

NO SPAM ^__^*
Nope i have NO hacks ready nor am i gonna worry about them just yet.. my fist priority is securing PC (and my server) the hacks and mods will come later - you admin/prea's can help with that if you want.

If Steve does it right, by doing the modificications by hand, nothing should be broken at all.
Not gonna happen.. I'll be doing the update late in the evening and won't have time nor the motivation to do a manual update, sorry.

This shouldn't alter currents threads/post count etc. Correct?
No data, short of the back-end files, will be affected. You're posts, post counts, profiles, etc will not change.

Will the boards be updating to 3.0.4 or 3.0.5??? I didnt get the deal with them being released so close.

Also what times are those for central time?
it'll be to 3.0.5, a critical security update from 3.0.4
Ummmm, about 21:00 (9:00PM) CST or around there. You'll all know when as the forum will display the maintinace message and not allow you to enter.

I can't help remembering when the database screwed up at SPP and everyone had to reregister and everything. It's funny looking back at it with hyancide, but it certainly wasn't funny then XD Hopefully that shouldn't happen here... I think o.o

To work out the time when PC'll come down, just add or subtract the number of hours from the GMT exact time of 7:00am. So... people in Western Europe such as France and Germany would be 8:00 and etc ^_^

January 9th, 2005, 04:05 PM
So, PC is getting an upgrade? Sounds cool. Will PC be changed in any way? Amd it's good that our post counts, profiles and all that data will remain the same. I guess PC will be a lot better later than it is now, right?

Illyria
January 9th, 2005, 04:08 PM
EDIT: Never mind, just saw MCD's post. x.x

Suz
January 9th, 2005, 04:08 PM

Illyria
January 9th, 2005, 04:17 PM

I have no idea what the time will be in B.C. I go by EST. But I'm guessing it'll be after 7:00 pm. Besides, today I'm only allowed on until like 7:00 pm anyway.

It isn't long,

My friend stalis upgraded mine in about 30 minutes, with all hacks intact. Then again he is a pro at vBullitens.

Good to see you guys are finally upgrading, it isn't long before someone makes a worm for the rest of vB 3.x

Illyria
January 9th, 2005, 07:55 PM
That was a database crash. o_O Check my post on page one to find out when it'll be upgraded. Or if you're too lazy, it's 7 hours and 5 minutes from when I typed this post.

Shikon no Tama
January 9th, 2005, 08:08 PM
7 hours? Sounds ok to me. I'll be fast asleep at that time. XD
I'll just be dreaming, and dreaming. Well, everyone in my area doesn't have to worry about time unless they're priviledged and get to stay up as long as they want.
*Glares at some people*

Thomas-san

Only 1 hour from the time I post this is when PC will be upgraded! I dont know anything about vBulliten, will there any major changes like layout?

Geometric-sama
January 9th, 2005, 10:55 PM
One hour? You sure about that? I calculated about 4 hours from now -_-

Shikon no Tama
January 9th, 2005, 11:03 PM
4 hours from now? 1? I have no idea. But, the sooner the upgrade happens to better. If it happens sooner, than that means people don't have to wait later on. Anyways, let's just all post something like *SUSPENSE* in our posts here to show we're counting down the time until the upgrade.

Geometric-sama
January 9th, 2005, 11:12 PM
If we just go *suspense*, that's, uh, gonna be like spam. :P

Thomas-san
January 9th, 2005, 11:13 PM
One hour? You sure about that? I calculated about 4 hours from now -_-Well, Steve told me that it would be around 9PM Central time and it is now 912PM....so...what is the hold up?

Rukario
January 10th, 2005, 03:51 AM
OK well it's updated.. now to see what's broke.. (i haven't yet reverted any templates as we want to see if there are any issues first.. and well, don't fell like editing them all again right now)

So, if you see a bug or glitch, report it here.

January 10th, 2005, 04:04 AM

Meh, only the security of PC has been enforced in 3.04 and 3.05...

Illyria
January 10th, 2005, 12:03 PM
Yay! Thanks to my sleeping pattern, I slept through it! xD Uh... broken things? It's not really anything big, but back on 3.0.3 I had auto-login enabled, and when I came on just now, I wasn't logged in. o.O

STaLIS
January 10th, 2005, 12:19 PM
that's because the cookie changes to having a different vB version displayed in it.

Anyway, nice update, though there may be more to come very soon according to Dave from vB.com :(

Rukario
January 10th, 2005, 01:14 PM
Yeah i'm noticing a cookie issue too.. hopefully it's only a temp problem..

Thomas-san
January 10th, 2005, 05:28 PM
Question: Everything looks and works exactly the same. What exactly did the upgrade change?

Hiroshi Sotomura
January 10th, 2005, 05:30 PM
It'll just ward off the cookies so you have to re-log in and it'll all come back.

Security fixes, so people can't hack in and stuff.

All the new features are in the admincp I believe.

Carlito-san
January 10th, 2005, 07:17 PM
Would a admin mind to tell us what they are?

Koroku
January 10th, 2005, 07:18 PM
It's nothing special that would have anything to do with the users.

The only change I've noticed is that the style area was revamped.

Shikon no Tama
January 10th, 2005, 08:11 PM
So, PC's been already upgraded? That's a god thing. Now we're all safe knowing that no one can hack our accounts. And I think there'll no hacking anyone for a very long while.

Koroku
January 10th, 2005, 08:14 PM
Accounts weren't in danger. It was just a vunerablility that could affect some of the files.

Database would be fine.

Kipkip
January 10th, 2005, 08:52 PM
Someone reported a post in Webmaster's Disscusion and I never got it in my PM inbox, but I did get it in my email. Could that have been affected by the upgrade?

Shikon no Tama
January 10th, 2005, 09:06 PM
I have no idea Kip-Kip. But I'm sure we'll find out what that upgrade has benifitted PC for. I haven't seen a change to it at all. Maybe the reporting thing has been affected as well Kip-Kip.

bgt
January 10th, 2005, 09:28 PM
I haven't noticed any problems, updates are nice to have, I couldn't get some of the theme's pictures to load up but those might have already been problems, lol.

Rukario
January 10th, 2005, 10:12 PM
This upgrade didn't add any new features.. it's mostly a bug-fix and security update.. but the fact of updating can effect our hacks.. i.e. the report hack.

I do beileve there was some cosmetic changes to the Admin/Mod Control Panel but no new funtion changes.

Uh... It really wouldnt be "hacking". Breaking into an account would be called "Cracking". And it really would only matter if someone broke into an admin or super moderators account :classic: :classic: :classic:
