I doubt that many of you have played this game, but maybe you've heard of it. It's a game so unique that I cannot relate it to anything at all. Seriously.
You know the strange Japanese games that usually come out? Like Cookie & Cream and Magic Pengal? This is one of those games that's odd, unique, and you just can never put the controller down. Don't you just love those games? Get ready for a long review...

The big deal is, you are this little green dude the size of a thumb tack that lives on the planet creatively named "Home Planet." Your father, the King of all Cosmos, is the size of the sky, practically. He's never met you before, as it seems to be.
One night, he just knocks all of the stars out of sky. He thinks it's fun! But, like most Japanese games, he wants you to get the sky to it's original state. How, you may ask? By going to Earth and rolling up objects in the Japanese term "katamari" meaning "a clump of stuff."
So, the size of a penny, you start rolling up so much junk, like tacks and dimes at first, then you go from magazines to teddybears to spraying cans and all the way to people. Sound any fun? Oh, God, it's the best thing you'll ever do! If I put a list of just some of the things you roll up, that would be considered SPAM.
The physics (other than you're this tiny little guy rolling a humungous ball...erm, katamari) in this game are remarkable. If you pick up a fence, your katamari will come out lop-sided. The colors really give a nice touch, too. And the music...oh, where do I begin.
Usually, my dad and I make rude remarks about games like this where the guys look like they have rolled-up carpets for heads, but the music and colors and such kept our mouths shut. This was a magnificent idea by Namco. Very, VERY creative. This is phenomenal. Buy, or at least rent it. It's an incredible game.

this game is AWESOME. seriously. I really wish more people knew about it so they could experience its greatness. and it's only $20!

oh man. I've played this game so much. I got eternal mode for Make a Star 4, 8, and Make the Moon (the only ones you can get eternal mode on). I have all the presents except two. x_x!! it's that stupid Taurus one! the cows, they just drive me crazy! I finally got the present in the Ursa Major stage after about 15 tries... I kept picking up like, wooden bear carvings or something stupid before I could get the present. it drove me crazy.

I'm going to start looking for all the cousins next, because I only found like... four. >_> and eventually I want to get a complete item list.

I love the soundtrack. Lonely Rolling Star is definitely my favorite song, but I love the sound the King makes when he talks. the wcka-wcka sound XD

such a great game, definitely one of the best of 2004. THUMBS UP~!!

(this probably goes in Other Games though ^_^;;)

Eh, darn. *gets a mod*
Well, I'm only at Star4 and all I got was the scarf. No cousins yet ^-^,
Star4...hard. 1meter ball in ten minutes with tacks and teddy bears...I can't do it! My step-mom can't get past 7. I had a go, and it's just impossible.
Unbelievable price for such a good game, though. Most unique game evah.

Star4? hm that one shouldn't be too hard... make sure you roll up all the things on top of the table-like thing you start at before rolling down it, then roll around the perimeter... just don't stop rolling. like, if you stop rolling and go back to get something you missed, you just waste time. don't do that. :/ just keep rolling, and you can come back and get what you missed later.

I haven't played it yet...but no one in America would have come up with a game like this...I'm just glad that America isn't the only country in the world. On another note isn't it supposed to be very cheap? I was thinking of picking it up within a few days...and from what you guys say it sounds even better than I thought.

It is very cheap. $20 at the moment. It might go down to $10 O.o,
Alright, thanks for the advice, Pounce! Really, this game I fell in love with. That introduction song is in my head...

The game is strange. Strangely addictive. I don't know what it is. You begin the size of a thumb tack and eventually get large enough to roll over the city. It's... ... ... Unusually brilliant!

Who doesn't want a PS2? This game is strange, yet I love the colors and just everything about it! Namco is a genius!

I was playing it yesterday! I got a demo of it, in the mail, yesterday. I first heard about it on Toonami. It's pretty cool. The little intro thing freaked me out. The music and all the weird looking things XD But It was pretty fun. I thought it was hilarious when I was getting cats to attatch to the ball XD

Is this game out in America? (living in japan makes me so confused ><)
in the international dorm i live in, we have the game and its a lot of fun. if this game had some out two or three years ago, im certain it wouldnt have been brought to america. even now i am surprised it made it stateside. Still i'm quite happy that more quirky games like this are making there way to the non-japanese gamer crowd.

They make me feel like I'm three againXD

I played the demo and got hooked. I heard about it a long time ago on some TV show, they were showing game demos from E3 or somthing. They said that the creators didn't think it would become anymore than a demo, and that it probaly wouldn't come to the USA. I saw the demo at game stop and just had to play it:P

I want to buy it once I save up enough money, that games so fun!

Japanese games are always better in my opinion, there so original, Like Disgaea and Magic pengel.

japanese dating games have been around for a long time, its a wildly popular genre here. usually they have some targeted for the female audience which involved boy on boy dating, and vice versa for the guy audience. and, even more popular, are the japanese porn games (which scare me, because often theyre mixed in on the shelfs with regular games, and i pick one up thinking "this title is cool" and when i see the porn cover i usually scream and drop the game, making the japanese customers around me give me weird looks).

anyway back on topic, i was just wondering to all who actually bought katamari damacy- how is the length of the game? just wondering how many hours i might be able to get out of the game (im sure it also has great replay value)

I had questions on the length too. For $20, you still can't go wrong xD

sadly ;-;, the game isn't really very long at all. but it's the replay value that will keep you playing even after you finish all the levels (around 15 or so). even once you finish everything, you have to keep going around trying to get the hidden items, presents, and cousins to complete your collection. then you can try to unlock Eternal mode, and if you can finish each stage fast enough you get a shooting star. even though it doesn't take that long to actually "finish" the game, there's still so much to do afterwards that it'll keep you busy for quite a while. ^o^

I heard that the game is so simple and short, if you actually sat and concentrated on the game, it'd only take you about four hours or so. But there is the fact of getting the cousins and scarves. And Kitsune Girl, I looove Magic PengelXD

LoL, I beat only a few games in one sitting. Only one, and that one's Sly Cooper. I haven't played Katamari Damacy in a while, actually. I'm only able to play it on the weekends. It's my step-moms game.
