Trainin' in a Winter Wonderland

Hack of:
Pokemon Gold (U)

Story:
This is much more than a simple graphics hack to add snow. This game takes place the same year as GSC, just later in the year. It assumes that the events of GSC (the radio tower take over, magikarp being forced to evolve, and all that) took place that summer, so the major events will be different, and more winter or holiday themed. Since this is part of what I'm calling the "Johto Legacy", I like to think of this as something of an "alternate third version" as well as a sequel -- sort of like Crystal, Platinum, and Christmas themes all mixed together.

What's New:

- Ability to play as a Boy or a Girl player, chosen in the intro
- Kris as the player's main friendly rival
- Hiro or Mei (Whichever player you didn't choose) as an additional rival
- Major events changed to new and/or holiday themed ones
- New tilesets to give it a snowy winter feel, as well as a "Gen II-and-a-half" feel
- Map updates to be more in line with Heart Gold's map designs, but not exactly identical
- Physical/Special Split added, like the newer games have
- New Pokémon added (NO FAKEMON. See list below.)
- New moves. Flame Ball is a new "Special" Fire-Type move to melt ice blocks, and there are a couple moves from newer gens as well.
- New items (Key Items, Regular Items, etc.)
- Ice sliding on frozen lakes, not just in Ice Path
- A few references to my other hacks you might catch (including hints at the prequel)
- New locations, including: South Isle, Battle Tower, Ecruteak Shinto Shrine, Dragon Shrine, and more
- Restored Kanto locations, including: Viridian Forest, Pewter Museum, and more
- Some wild Pokémon location changes, some are the same
- Trainers sprites and rosters updated
- All Gym Leaders have additional Pokémon, and all of Kanto's gyms are higher levels
- Lots of events have been redone, removed, added, etc.
- Some trainer classes have been changed
- There have been changes to the Elite Four
- Viridian has a different leader
- New Game Corner prizes (Johto and Kanto)
- Additional Prize Exchanges added at the Battle Tower
- Practice Battle Machines added for the Battle Tower. (They are like the ones in the old Sterling Silver, but improved)
- Move Tutors, who will teach your Pokémon a new move in exchange for a Heart Scale
- A version of the "Trendy Phrase" which can be used to unlock certain things, or just to amuse yourself
- More

Trading
Trading with other players via Link Cable has been removed. However, there are ways to evolve Pokémon that normally evolve via trade without having to trade them.

In Goldenrod City's GTS/Global Terminal/Pokémon Center, you have the opportunity to Wonder Trade. The system is still a little rough at this point, but it will be more polished for the Full Version. It is still totally usable though. Just like in Gen 6, you offer up any Pokémon you want from your party (eggs can be traded too, no need to hatch them first) and you will receive a totally random Pokémon back in return.

Known Bugs
* Very Minor
* Potentially Major
-----------
- There are no Wild Pokémon in South Isle Woods. This will be fixed in the full version. Sorry about that.
- People may blink out and back in for a second when you talk to them.
- Headbutt and Cut have minor graphical errors under the animation.
- The female player's sprite doesn't load properly on the Fly map in one or two areas.
- Some locations don't have the right name on the Town Map, because I ran out of area names.
- Female Kirlia can still evolve into Gallade.
- Playing on VBA-M may rarely result in graphical glitches when a textbox first loads. This only seems to appear with VBA-M and is not gamebreaking, nor does it always happen. Only observed a few times during testing.
- The Hall of Fame will always display the male trainer's sprites, even if you are a girl.
- There is an error with an NPC's script in a house in Blackthorn. Exiting the house will fix the graphic error. - Fixed
- Attempting to trade via link-cable will corrupt certain areas of the save file. (Specifically: The player's gender and several new flags used to keep track of events) Don't do that. (In-Game Trades with NPCs or Wonder Trade are still PERFECTLY FINE though). - Fixed

Credits:

RED - Contributed a lot of the code for the gender selection, also a few devamped tiles
Miksy91 - Taught me ASM, and was a lot of help with the routine for the Pickup ability
Tauwasser - Created the Ex Tileset patch which I used
Koolboyman - Original designer of the Physical/Special split routine
Kanzure, and the other contributors to Pokecrystal - Even though this is a hack of Gold, Pokecrystal helped me track down several various routines that I needed to modify. Sorry I talked bad about that project in the past, that was very stupid of me.
~G0LD! and Chamber - Town Map graphics
Chamber - Original script for Generic Move Tutors from Whack-A-Hack
Luigi-San - Various sprites
Amvz08 - Various sprites
Pixel Eye - Various sprites
Berries Inc - Various sprites
Blue Emerald - Various sprites
Pia Carrot - Various sprites, Various text
Mateo - 99% of the devamped tilesets, also primary scripter, mapper, designer, etc. Generally everything else.

It sounded kind of awkward to release a christmas hack right now, but oh well, I might try it.

Mateo
March 23rd, 2012, 08:29 PM
Well it was one of those things where I originally released it at Christmas on Skeetendo, and then I got bogged down with classes so it took a while to get caught up on bug fixes, so once it was finally *done* I figured I would post it around, even if it didn't make a lot of sense in March. Although I guess I could have waited until July and said "Happy Christmas in July!" like people sometimes do.

This looks good. Nice work. I appreciate surprises but is there any way you could explain some more about what makes this different than the original? What are the new pokemon you've added and have you changed the trainers or the wild pokemon locations?

Hey, did you happen to edit the trade evolutions so they evolve by level instead? I want to know if I should even train my geodude and abra.

Hey is it possible to get eevee before Celadon City?

Mateo
March 24th, 2012, 04:05 PM
Yes. Eevee is available from Bill in Goldenrod city (he was in original gold, too) Although now you can get him before Ecruteak, whereas in Gold you had to have Bill tell you the time capsules were online first.

Oh yea of course, been a while since I played gold. Thanks mate.

And sorry to be annoying, but can you get evolution stones before Kanto?

And yes, you can purchase the stones in the department store. It bothered me that they took them out of the kanto dept. store in Gold, so I made up for it by putting them in both.

Oh, I simply love GSC hacks, and this one is really great.
Nintendo should be proud of this modification of Gold :)

Btw. Some movesets are weird - for example Glaceon can't learn return ;)

Mateo
April 10th, 2012, 09:16 AM
Ah, thanks for pointing that out. I've found a few more small things after release too. I'll get a patch together soon that will fix them. The others that have been found have pretty much been text errors (someone says you met Lance when you didn't, and the "How does ELM know you got an egg from the daycare couple?" question people ask)and other minor things, like a couple of the new Pokemon were in the wrong egg groups. If you guys find anything else, let me know and I'll include it in the minor fixes patch too.

Glad you guys are enjoying this, even with it released at a random non-christmas time xD

ablahblah987

This may be a dumb question, but what do you do after you meet Lance at the Lake of Rage? It's clearly different than the original game.

Mateo

Right, there is no final trainer. Unlocking Mt. Silver was replaced with unlocking Cerulean Cave and catching Mewtwo.

Hey Mateo, when I said that 'knowing that this will be more enjoyable'? I wasn't lying. I'm only just gotten my first badge and entered Union Cave, and I'm hooked on this. The improvements, such Magnet Train tracks ongoing to Union Cave, Mr. Pokemon and Oak gretting a tad different....and no Silver? Will he appear at some point in the story?

Other than that, good job at keeping me engaged with this hack!

Another bug I've forgotten about. Surfing on Route 45 is not possible.

That's not a bug, actually, that's intentional. Notice how those are bridges over the water, and there are no stairs letting you get down to the level as the water to surf on it. It's emulating this design from Heart Gold

Silver doesn't actually show up. His story was mainly in original Gold, and since this takes place later, he isn't around. He will show up in the redesigned Halloween hack that I'm planning out, which takes place between Gold and this hack. It's still way too early in development to make a thread for that hack though, it will be later in the year, closer to October.

But hey, glad you're enjoying it, and of course please continue to post any feedback you have about it, I appreciate it!

Oh, I just found a weird bug. Piloswine, and Mamoswine have different type of experience, so after the evolution and gaining one level, it gained actually 12 additional levels. That confused me really big.
You should change it, as well as the stats of all that added pokemon.

Mateo
April 15th, 2012, 10:13 AM
Odd, I thought I fixed those before this release. I know some pokemon had been doing it, but I thought I fixed all the new ones. I'll make sure they are right in the bug fix patch.

Alright, fixed the Mamoswine bug, and double checked the others for errors too. Unless you guys find any other errors, I'll go head and get the new bug-fixed patch up tonight.
EDIT: In looking back over my notes, I noticed an unused flag leftover from one of the old events, so I think I will use this to put back in something this hack originally lacked- a powerful final trainer.

Also, Glad you guys are fans! Hope you enjoy the hack!

EDIT2: The bug-fixed patch is up. Apply it to a clean rom, then give it the same file name as the old one and you can pickup where you left off. If you already have a Mamoswine that did the EXP bug, he will most likely do it again since his growth rate was changed to fix it, but new ones should work fine. Also, I would recommend NOT saving in Unknown Dungeon before you go to resume from the newly patched version. You should be able to save anywhere else though.

@Mateo this is one of the best hacks I've ever played, up there with the big boys like Pokemon Brown! Well done and thanks for such a great game, it's addictive and a refreshing take on my favourite generation of Pokemon games!

I do have a few questions though:
1 - Is there any way to catch Pikachu besides the trade in Violet city? I've already evolved that one to a Raichu and I need another Pikachu to trade for Mudkip... :(
2 - Can Glaceon learn ANY TM's besides Ice, normal and hidden Power moves? o_O It seems extremely limited in its movepool - for example, it should be able to learn Shadow Ball and, I think, Psychic, but it doesn't, is it a glitch?
3 - Do you think you could make a fix in the near future so that there is a Final trainer unlocked AFTER you catch Mewtwo, like maybe he is standing there in Mewtwo's place ready to face you, etc? Just an idea, I don't know if there is enough allocated space in your hack for him or something...
4 - You said that the final evolutions obtaioned via trading are in Cerulean Cave... but I can't Find Gengar or kingdra or slowking though, instead finding the already easily-obtainable Arcanine and Crobat, which do not need trading to obtain. I really want a Kingdra too... XD
5 - Mudkip and its line is in the game... do you think you could enter Treeko, Torchic, and maybe even a truant-less Slakoth line too? :) I would do it myself if I had any hacking knowledge, but I don't, and you could easily replace some useless pokemon like Oddish, Corsola, and Mantine. It's already an incredible hack, but this would make it just perfect XD

April 19th, 2012, 06:55 AM
OH JUST GOT AN IDEA! make MEWTWO the final trainer!

Mateo
April 19th, 2012, 07:38 AM
Well the final trainer is already inserted, and you have to battle Mewtwo first in order to get to them. Assuming you are playing the Bug Fix and Final Trainer version, Mewtwo should now be standing on top of a ladder, and you can go up it once you beat him/catch him/etc. ;)

Glaceon's TM list is just an oversight, I'll go back in and fix that. Also you should be able to catch Pikachu on Route 2 like in original GS, they just aren't very common.

I could go back and put those in. In the meantime though you can use an emulator like VBA Link or TGB Dual to trade and get them to evolve with the GTS on South Isle.

Adding in all of those other pokemon would take longer to bug test than adding in the final trainer (since the final trainer I could pretty much just resume from a couple of different post-kanto saves and make sure she worked lol) I might add them in the future, but right now I'm more focused on fixing bugs with what's there than adding a lot of new things. I have a lot of ideas, but I'm saving them for the Halloween Hack, which will be a prequel to this one and will hopefully be out in late October. But after that, there's nothing saying I can't go back and in a few more pokemon and things this coming christmas.

EDIT: I acutally thought about making Mewtwo the final trainer. But since I already had it so you could catch him, and wanted people's existing saves to make sense when they upgraded, I kept it as someone else. However the mewtwo as a final trainer idea could work in the prequel.

…Oh hey!

I wasn't expecting
to see you here.

Oh, that's right,
you're looking for

the legendary
POKéMON that are
usually here.

Well, I already
ran them off

during my test, so
you can find them

in the grass
around JOHTO now.

…Oh, right.
I never introduced
myself.

I'm MATEO, the
hack's creator.

You know, you met
me in the intro.

Anyway while I'm
here, let's have a
battle!

-Yes. Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Lugia, and Ho-oh are all obtainable, as are the three dogs.
-Unfortunately, the Battle Tower never really opens
-Gengar is not in Cerulean Cave, you will have to trade to get him using TGB Dual or a similar emulator by going to the GTS on South Isle.

To anyone confused about the birds:

-Once you are in Kanto, go to the restaurant in Fuschia City
-Talk to and battle Flannery in the restaurant
-After the battle, she will say she is going to the Legend Festival at South Isle
-Go to South Isle, and participate in the Legend Festival

Was all this introduced in the older releases as well ? When I played through the hack, I don't remember seeing Flannery but perhaps I never went to the restaurant (but wouldn't be surprised if I didn't either).

Sounds like an intersting side-quest though so I'll check it out when I've time for it.

It's been in since the last major update. The only new thing that the latest bug-fix patch added was a final trainer to replace Red since he was made the Champion, and the previous bug-fix patch added a trainer to the secret base on the Route leading to Lake of Rage and a few other things, but the side quest was already in.
Although admittedly Flannery does show up several places (The restaurant, the GTS in South Isle, and the Developer's Mansion in Celadon) so it might be easy to overlook her.

Another spoiler about the sidequest
The Legend Festival is clearly inspired by "Pokémon The Movie 2000", aka "The Power of One", even though it takes place in Johto instead of the Orange Islands. There is also no character based on Lawrence III, its been simplified a bit.

I love the whole holiday winter theme xD

By the way... can you tell me the location of the Ice Shard was it? The item(?) required to evolve Eevee into Glaceon... as I really want Glaceon to be in my team pretty soon haha
And the locations of Sneasel and Snorunt will be appreciated too!! xD

the Ice Shard can be founds where u meet bill for the first time on normal games (aka the poke center wher the 4th gym is cant rember the town name ) as for snorunt and we Sneasel there in some cave where u take a boat where the gym leader chuck lives (still dont rember the town name) but u need to fix the ampharos so the boat can sail

In addition to that Ice Shard, there are others in item balls (for example, one is in National Park). Also, you can find Snorunt in National park as well, but they are also in the cave that wilso mentioned as well.

-lavender radio tower the guard still mentions johto radio tower is taken over by team rocket when it wasnt the case in this hack.

Mateo

-Typo is intentional, its a reference to a recurring post on 4chan's /vp/ board where someone posts a Vaporeon with a heart next to it, with Vaporeon asking "Are you simgle, Master?"

-It was taken over, this hack assumes normal Gold already happened during the summer. That's why Goldenrod's tower is off limits as well, they tightened up security after the take over in Gold. That being said, I'll still go back and look at the text for the radio tower. Thanks!

Mateo

Correct, the ones that are unavailable even with trading are that way because they were replaced to add new Pokémon. All the Pokémon *should* be available, although you may have to trade for a few if I made an oversight in making them available. Many of the trade evolution Pokémon are available in Cerulean Cave/Unknown Dungeon, although they should still evolve through trade like normal unless otherwise noted. The Pokémon whose evolutions were changed were mentioned in an earlier post. If you find that I neglected to mention one in that post, let me know and I will update that as well as mention it here.

Um quick question what's with all the Doctor Who references? I've only noticed two so far, one in this hack and one in your other hack.

Mateo
June 27th, 2012, 10:40 PM
@gam3r! - You're right, Torchic is not in this hack. The only gen3 starter that was added is Mudkip, and that was originally a joke and I just decided to go ahead with it, because I had people mention Mudkips earlier in the hack.
EDIT: Also, its not very likely that Torchic will be included in the Halloween Hack, the ones I'll be adding will primarily be dark or ghost type, to fit the theme. Like I say, Mudkip and his evolutions were originally a joke (in fact, one I almost forgot about, and the first version I released I didn't even have their stats, moves, or evolutions completely inserted yet). So I guess to make it fair, the Halloween Hack will either have all 3 RSE starters, or none of them. I'll mention it in the thread for that hack whichever way I decide on when the time comes.

@Seraphimon-sama - I'm a fan of Doctor Who, so I threw in a few references to it along with the references to other things. There are references to Classic Rock songs (For example, "Couple Jak & Diane" is a refence to the John Mellencamp song "Jack and Diane", and their text references the lyrics. There is also a Hiker who quotes the song "Round and Round" by Ratt.) There are references to internet memes (For example, the trainer in Falkner's gym that says "Cool Story, bro.") Basically I like to reference other things that I'm a fan of, and Doctor Who is one of them.
EDIT: After writing this post, I'm tempted to make a spoiler'd section in the first post that just lists all the random references to things that I tossed in for anyone who is interested in (or possibly confused by) those things.

To make him cheaper, really.

Originally Kanto's game corner had Mr. Mime for 3333 coins, Eevee for 6666 coins and Porygon for 9999 coins in Gold and Silver. I just used those amounts for the new Pokemon in Johto, then made all of the Kanto starters have the same price, which if I recall is 2100 coins, originally the price of Dratini in the Johto game corner.

Mateo

Yeah, I always considered Porygon kind of useless for the price back in the day. I mean he's a cool Pokémon and an awesome concept, but he just wasn't useful enough for the price tag.

That's why in the old Sterling Silver I had machines where you could battle and try to catch Porygon normally, to put more fun into catching him and play up his gimmick status a bit. I figure that will come back in a future hack, but couldn't say at this point which one that will be.

Also while i was playing i went into that house that permits access to tin tower and somekind of a bug i found :i talked with the elder who blocked me unless i had the badge from ecruteak ( which i have) and a white textbox appeared and then i was teleported to the entrance of that building ! @gam3r! - That's odd, I don't remember ever encountering that elder bug, I'll look into it and see if I can figure out why it happened.

And on the lost girl script, there was no existing script left in the game that I could find to re-implement, there was only some leftover unreferenced text. So I used that and made up an event that would use it.

Also yes, IImarckus is the one who hosts Skeetendo's forums.

You can absolutely progress without getting Ho-oh. But it looks like that's all it is, the elder is disappearing too early, so the game is doing the same thing it would if you had deposited the Rainbow Wing in your PC after getting it and trying to battle him- You can get up there, but he doesn't show up because you don't have the wing with you.

@godlesplay - Well the pokemon that evolved with stones like Growlithe still evolve the same way, the new Pokemon that were added have their evolutions listed in the first post, And you can still trade if you go to the GTS on South Isle.

For convenience, I'll probably add methods that don't involve trading in the Halloween Hack, and probably add them to this if enough bugs surface to warrant another bug fix patch.

Hey Mateo, great game! Just a question though.

It's not about the game, but the story itself. You say - and the hack shows - that the original Pokemon Gold's events have already happened. If that is the case, then who stopped Team Rocket that time around? It couldn't have been Gold, because he starts his adventure in this game. So it should have been someone else, besides Lance.

By the way, I created an article for this hack at the Pokehacks wiki (which is kinda new). Check it out. http://pokehacks.wikia.com/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_Skeetendo_Christmas_Hack

Mateo

Glad you enjoyed it! And that is an excellent question. While I never actually gave an official answer for that in the hack, I've sort of played it off as if Lyra from Heart Gold was the one that did it. The Rival's default name is Kris, and has the appearance of the original girl from Crystal, but Gamefreak seems to act like Lyra and Kris are two different people so this could work. Admittedly, Kris does borrow some elements of her character from Lyra, but just as many from May (She's the professor's daughter like May, but she started with Marill like Lyra did, and her personality is inspired slightly by both of them).

I figure I will try to address this better in the Halloween Hack, as it will chronologically occur between Gold and the Christmas Hack. In fact, the Cooltrainer you fight in the secret base near Lake of Rage represents the player from the upcoming Halloween Hack.

But again, I've worked off the assumption that Lyra was the one who did it over the summer in Gold/Heart Gold version.

Also:
Speaking of continuity and female players, since RED is the champion, the final trainer is Leaf.

EDIT: Nice work on the wiki article. It looks as though these were based on the version before the "Bug Fix + Final Trainer" update, since it doesn't mention the Final Trainer, and I believe the Togepi Egg references and bird glitch were fixed in that one. But over all, very nice! Thanks for taking the time to put that up.

@godlesplay - Trade evolutions will be replaced in the Halloween Hack, and I'll probably make an optional patch you can apply to this one (Soon-ish) that will replace trade evolutions as well.

As for stone evolutions, I will not be replacing those with level up. This would be somewhat pointless, especially since I have made it so you can buy the stones like you did in RBY which removed the "stones are super rare" annoyance of original GSC. So yes, if you want stone evolutions replaced with level up, you would have to do this yourself.

godlesplay

Mateo
July 12th, 2012, 09:30 AM
That's odd, Steelix should still be learning moves unless you somehow messed up when editing his evolution so that it doesn't load his moves anymore. These are the moves he should be learning.

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Steelix_%28Pok%C3%A9mon%29/Generation_II_learnset#By_leveling_up

All I can say is, if you are hacking my hack, I can't really help you because all I know is what I've done, I can't say what will change when other people start poking around with it. That would be like asking Gamefreak for help when you get stuck in Brown Version.

Mateo
July 12th, 2012, 09:48 AM
He would have learned Extremespeed anyway if you had evolved him by stone. Flamethrower I don't understand since that shouldn't be in his skill list, unless you had him evolve right after growlithe learned it or something.

Please do not complain if something isn't working the way you want it to since you are hacking my hack to do things I didn't intend for it to do. I don't mean to be rude, but I really cannot help you since these are not changes I intend to make and I can't be sure what all you are doing when you change them.

If you want him to learn new moves, go ahead and make him learn some new moves. You may as well, you're already changing the evolutions and stuff too and the moves he learns are stored right after his evolution data. Basically, if you insist on hacking my hack, don't expect me to really support it or help you figure out how to make my hack do something I didn't want it to. That just isn't reasonable.

Like I said, I will make a patch that replaces Trade evolutions, and if I find any problems when I change that, I'll fix them in the patch.

Yep, Mewtwo is still catchable. Also, which thing is he still saying about the egg? Is it a phone call dialogue that I missed, or is it something he says in the lab? That will make it quicker for me to go to it and change it.

EDIT: Oh wait, he does mention the egg at one point after you get it from the Daycare couple. I think he or the daycare couple are supposed to indicate that they talked about it to explain why he knows.

I don't think it's a phone call .I think it's Elm's line that you forgot to change( in his lab), i think , After giving me the masterball in his lab he said to me" how is that egg doing ?" or something like that

Mateo
July 13th, 2012, 01:16 AM
I know at one point he is supposed to say something about the egg, since you get a Togepi egg from the day care couple now the first time you talk to them. Like, I know if you call him after it hatches (you call HIM, not him call you) he will say "what? the egg hatched?" or something similar, since that is probably what you would be calling him about. Basically, its probably not really a bug you guys are seeing, just something I should have explained a bit better.

Dimebag

ok then. But it seemed odd to me since i never talked to day care !

Mateo
July 13th, 2012, 01:53 AM
Okay, well then that one is probably still a mistake, he should only do what I'm thinking of if you actually hatch the Togepi egg. I'll do another play through and see if I can catch it and fix it.

@godlesplay - Well you can get Mew in the gamecorner, and Suicune Raikou and Entei are still wandering around Johto like they were in original Gold.

@gam3r! - Haha yep. Thought I'd have some fun and toss in references like that.

Dimebag
July 16th, 2012, 12:45 AM
I guess this reference goes to the truck that if you interacted with it you would get mew. This truck will be in SaR right ?

Mateo
July 16th, 2012, 08:40 AM
@gam3r! - Absolutely. I kicked around a few ideas for that one, and even thought about including the actual truck and mew but decided to go with that one. After all, if SaR is Red Version "The way WE PRETENDED it was supposed to be", then Red would have already found Mew, so he couldn't still be under the truck.

Dimebag
July 16th, 2012, 09:07 AM
And why having a truck without a mew? :P

Mateo
July 16th, 2012, 04:15 PM
Haha that's what we always wondered in Red. It was always there, but you couldn't even legitimately get to it unless you went really out of your way to get CUT without the boat leaving, then coming back with surf (You could lose a trainer battle on the ship after you got CUT, or you could have one of your mates trade you a Pokemon that knew CUT already and just avoid going on the boat all-together until you had surf).

so whats up with this bug...? i was playing this version and beat the elite four and stuff, so i was in johto and faced surge, misty, erika, and sabrina. i went to get my kanto music pass
when i got it it said, "recieved EXPN Card!" but it didnt appear in my pokegear, and i cant continue without not only that, i reloaded my state and played through the elite four and all again, and i got back to it, i didnt use the fastforward function this time and got the pass and it still just dissappeared, im using a psp emulator called Master Boy 2.10

it didnt do this on any other pokemon game like gold or silver or crystal so im kind of curious did i do something wrong or was it a bug on your part?

Did you get the radio card from Goldenrod City? If you didn't, that is your problem, but basically all the EXPN card does is add at least 1 new channel almost at the right-hand side of the radio, which is PokeFlute.

Seriously though, this is a really well-made hack. I'm in Kanto right now and I've just beaten Brock and Misty. My team is Typhlosion, Poliwrath, Noctowl, Pikachu (trade and shiny), Celebi and an egg that my Male Eevee (not happy about that) and my Ditto made. This is actually the second egg I've gotten so far because the first one was a Male.

Mateo

Seraphimon-sama is correct. Just like in the original games, you have to get the normal Radio Card in Johto for the EXPN card to do anything.

Glad to see you're enjoying it, and sorry on your problems finding a female Eevee. Best of luck to you!

Is that a move that would be needed elsewhere in the field? Since TMs break, and that could be the only instance of it available, you could end up blocking a player in somewhere unable to proceed several Routes later if they replace the move with another unless you have the TM available somehow later on (like in the next town for purchase for 1,000 coins). It might be better to make it an HM in that case.

If that's the only place with the move needed, carry on and ignore me.

It works the same way Rock Smash did. In GSC, Rock Smash was a TM instead of HM. Once you get the first one from the Hiker, more can be purchased in the Dept. Store in Goldenrod City. The same is true of Headbutt as well.

Just played it. I have some questions, will send a PM asap. All I can say, is that it's not good as others, but it deserves a go. The dialogues, characters are awesome. Also i like the map changes, like South Isle. I like it, if you do an update on this, you have my support.

Mateo
August 29th, 2012, 08:28 AM
If by "not good as others" you mean "it doesn't completely change everything" then yeah, I see your point. The idea was not to be a completely new game necessarily, but more like an "alternate third version" sort of like if Crystal was combined with Platinum, but at Christmas Time. Glad you still enjoyed it though.

EDIT: Any suggestions you might have? Things that should be done differently, things that would be cool to see added in an update?

RubyHacker
August 29th, 2012, 09:20 AM
That's not my point. My point is that other hacks are mostly total conversions, where 99.9 percent is changed. (the only 0.01 is the pixelated graphics, lol ). It's still good and it's worth a go.

Suggestions: I think you should change the trainer Pokemon's levels(all of them). Also I think you should put some legendaries in some places you edited ( South Isle etc.)
I'll think of more.

Mateo
August 29th, 2012, 09:31 AM
Sounds like it would be a good thing to look into, possibly re-work their teams as well. Also,
There are 4 legendaries available in South Isle if you come back for the Legend Festival. To activate the festival, you need to find Flannery in Fuchsia City and she will tell you about it.

There is also Mewtwo in Cerulean Cave, and there is a Celebi Event in Ilex Forest once you take the GS Ball to Kurt.

Thanks for the tips man. Can't wait for more updates, keep it up!
Don't read if you plan to pass the GAME!!!

I just finished it.
Before I share my honest opinions, I 2 questions:
- Is there a way to get to the Brick Town that was mentioned by Leaf?
- I beat Leaf, and also got Moltres, Zapdos and Articuno, + Mewtwo and Lugia. Is that all I can do?

Now my opinions:
- This hack is great. It gets a + because it's complete, so I can enjoy it to the end.
- South Isle and all the edited places were great.
- Leaf and Red was also a great add. Loved it.

Suggestions:
If it's possible, make a longer version of it.
- I know this sounds big, but Hoenn as a region would be a dream come true ( for me at least ). I don't want the Hoenn Pokemon, Johto and Kanto ones would be great too.
- I suppose Leaf is the "Red" of this hack. But what about Lance? You should add him too somewhere.
- Where's "YOU" in the hack? I'm not talking about where to meet you, but the battles. I would have loved to fight you more.
- If you plan to put more battles with you in the hack, put in you favorites! I'm not sure if the Pokemon you had in the hack are your favorites, but if they aren't, take my word!

One more question: Is Flannery you girlfriend( Joking of course) in the hack? :)

Well to answer your questions:

-There is no way to get to Brick Town in this hack. You can get there in the latest demo of Secrets and Rumours though (Check my sig for a link).
-There are still Ho-oh and Celebi, plus the three Dogs (if you haven't caught all of them yet).

-Adding a third region would be a LOT of work, plus I don't currently know how to go about adding a third region map. So Hoenn is not likely to happen, although I could add more places to Johto and Kanto in an update, for example: the Routes added in HG/SS that are currently blocked off by the bit of fence, and some other places. I might try to make the battle tower more functional in an update as well. However, some of my ideas for new places in Johto and Kanto will show up in this hack's prequel, "Pokemon Spirits and Legends", aka "The Halloween Hack" although I don't know if I'll have it done by Halloween, what with classes and everything.

-Lance is said to be training in the Unova region, and Gary is off in Hoenn, why neither of them make an appearance.

-I could add in another battle or two with my NPC, that wouldn't be a problem. I didn't want to go too far to town on it though, since I already felt like Flannery and I were everywhere haha. My team in Burned Tower is basically the team I had at that point during testing once. I remember around Christmas when Volmise did a let's play of it, she freaked out at my first Pokémon, but was laughing by the time I was sending out really under leveled Pokémon. During testing especially I have a habit of Grinding my starter up and ignoring everyone else lol. But I would add in more of my favorites if I add more battles with myself.

-Speaking of that, while I never actually say it in so many words, I guess I did manage to strongly imply that Flannery and I are dating in the hack. The entry on the Pokehacks wiki (http://pokehacks.wikia.com/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_Skeetendo_Christmas_Hack) (not written by me) lists Flannery as my girlfriend.

On a side note: I do have notes written down for a GBC hack that would take place in Hoenn, but it only exists on paper and is too early to really say anything about it or whether it will ever really exist or not. But since I see there is at least some demand for a Hoenn-centered Gold hack, I will probably get to it when I finish my other projects (Whenever that is).

Haha for real ;) lol.

And yeah, glad you mentioned Ancient Emerald. Because that hack exists (even if it is somewhat in limbo right now) this would NOT be an RSE remake, but a new story taking place in Hoenn. The way my notes are right now, it would take place 3 years after RSE (so the same time as GSC) and you would play as someone other than Brendan/May. But that's all I'll really say about it right now, since I have so little planned out yet, and I'm not officially announcing it or anything. Haha. Yeah, I like to have fun with references to things. Whether that is another game, TV, a movie, etc. I try to keep it mainly in side things, unless its something Pokemon related like the Pokémon 2000 References. I try to do it so that if someone gets the reference, they will think its cool, but if they don't get it they will just go on about the game and not feel lost.

Or the celadon mansion which is the Skeetendo inc. hq (which was nitendo's in g/s/c )

Yep, exactly lol. If I'm going to make a reference be part of the actual story, it will be something like the Legend Festival- Its a reference to Pokémon 2000, so most everyone will be familiar with it by now, and its explained enough.

But yeah, the others are fun. Like having Summer Glau on my hacking team, or some of the things we're working on if you "talk" to the computer screens.

I don't remember changing the wild pokemon in Mt Mortar, although I don't have it with me to double check right now (I'm in class) so they should still be there. If you're wanting just any Fire type though, You can catch Growlithe on the route West of Violet City, and Vulpix are in Union Cave. Also, the elemental stones are available in the Dept. Store, so you could evolve those into Arcanine and Ninetails, or an Eevee into Flareon. I tried to make sure there were some available by Goldenrod. That way you can use Flame Ball to progress even if you didn't start with Cyndaquil.

EDIT: No, Houndour are not in Mt. Mortar. They also never were, according to Bulbapedia. In original GSC they can only be found on Route 7 in Kanto, and in HG/SS they were added to the Johto Safari Zone as well.

Red is very much present. He is not the final trainer, but he plays more of a part in the games. His team is based on Heart Gold and Soul Silver, so it isn't particularly Christmasy or un-christmasy, really. If you want a spoiler as to who the new final trainer is, look at the support banner :p

Also, the final trainer is definitely a challenge.

I think you might've patched the hack on the wrong ROM. Make sure it's Pokémon Gold Version, and make sure that it's the English Pokémon Gold, because you might have one in a different language. So I would advise you to check the ROM that you tried to patch, 'cause you never know if it's in a different language such as Spanish. lol

Like PokemonShinySilver said, its probably a problem with patching. Just double check that you applied it to the right file. The one I used is the English rom, and the file name should probably be something like "Pokemon Gold (U)". Also, I sent you a message with another *ahem* work around if you continue having problems.

hey guys, what are ya gonna do next? Cause I still need people to help with a Fire Red hack. And I'm gonna need pros cause I need 5 gen

..wait i just read a comment above me.....well in your banner their is Lucas, Crystal, and the female character for Fire Red.

Mateo

I have almost no experience hacking Fire Red, honestly. Probably wouldn't be very much help with that project.

The next project I've been working on is Pokémon Spirits and Legends (http://hax.iimarck.us/topic/82/), the prequel to this hack. It's still in early development and planning stages though so not a whole lot to see there yet.

Also, that's right about the banner. Since one is the player and one is the rival, the last one is the final trainer. She isn't in Mt. Silver though, she is somewhere in Kanto (But you still have to beat all the gyms like you would to go to Mt. Silver).

I know this is a double post, but its been a bit since the last post, and I had an update, as well as a question for people.

First off, I've announced on Skeetendo that I will be making some changes and updates to this for a release in December.

Some minor updates will include:
-Fix the bug with Mewtwo re-spawning each time you beat the Elite Four
-Fix a bug with the legendary birds not properly closing the text-box after the battle
-Fix a visual bug with Elm's Aid in Violet running down where there is no carpet to leave.
-Changing some of the text that is still the same as the original game and was overlooked
-Updating the remaining trainer sprites that are dressed inappropriately for the snow
-Updating the Title Screen

Some more notable changes will include:
-Changing Trade Evolution Pokémon to evolve without trading
-Completely changing the Trainer House in Viridian, so it will be fun and varied without needing to use Mystery Gift (which is impossible in emulators anyway)
-Adding in a few new locations
-Adding a new gameplay element (using an incense burner to attract wild Pokémon that aren't normally found in the area)
-Changing a few of the events around that are still a little too close to original Gold

The most notable change is:
There will be two slightly different versions. One where you play as Hiro, and one where you play as Kris. The storyline will be the same, but there will be other differences to the Kris version.
-Graphical changes to the bag and trainer card
-Changes to the Rival encounters, since he needs to act like Hiro (naturally).
-Changes to your room decorations and other minor things like that
-Other changes might be implemented as well, depending on how time goes.

Also, Luigi-San on Skeetendo has made another sprite for Kris. I want you guys to vote on which you like better.

For easy comparison, blown up and side by side.

Thanks for the input. I prefer that one as well, honestly, but I'm a bit biased since its the one I made.

Also, if you guys can think of any other bugs that I haven't mentioned fixing in that post, by all means feel free to point them out. I'm also open to suggestions on other improvements you guys might think of.

Sounds good, thanks. So far (between here and Skeetendo) it looks like the current sprite is winning.

Hello there!

I've been playing this hack over the past few days, and I've enjoyed it quite a bit. I'm up to Vermillion City now, and it's been quite a fun ride. Most of the game seems new while still having the old charm.

That said, there are a few disappointments.

Some of the major text has been left unaltered, making things rather strange. For example, RED talks almost exactly like LANCE.

A few major events feel like they should have been modified more. Mostly because they end up being carbon copies of old events. The old man on the boat still loses his granddaughter, the Red Gyarados is still in the Lake of Rage, etc.

This last one's just personal opinion... But the fourth wall breaks with MATEO kind of bother me. It sort of kills the vibe, you know?

On a brighter note, I've attached a little doodle I did of one particular scene that struck me as rather... I dunno, surreal? Not to mention amusing.

Mateo
December 2nd, 2012, 09:37 AM
Glad you've been enjoying it! And thank you for posting those disappointments. Some of those I had already thought of, but others I hadn't so I will try to improve those for the upcoming update. I really do appreciate the feedback.

Also, nice doodle! Haha, yeah it is a little surreal for her to say that, but I thought it would be funny. (and apparently I was right, haha!)

NeonBlue27
December 2nd, 2012, 11:33 AM
I'm not sure disappointments is the right word. They didn't really make the game less enjoyable...

By the way, was that Vaporeon a reference to something? There's only one other situation I've seen in the hack that has a talking Pokemon, and it was a reference... plus I know you've mentioned that the hack has references to your other works in it.

Oh, in-game she actually said "simgle". Minor smelli- er, spelling mistake.

Mateo
December 2nd, 2012, 11:51 AM
She was indeed a reference to something, although it wasn't a game or movie. It was a reference to 4chan's /vp/ board, where (at least at one point) it was common to see posts like this:

http://img545.imageshack.us/img545/120/simgle.jpg Are you simgle, Master?

I don't go to 4chan that often by any means, but since someone there did a livestream of them playing it after I posted a link to it on /vp/ I figured I would add in a reference to /vp/ while I was fixing the bugs they found.

Addition:
Some of the references to my other works are in Kanto, though. Some people in Viridian City have the exact same dialogue they have in the current demo of Secrets and Rumours, someone refers to a trainer finding a rare Pokemon on the docks 3 years ago (another reference to SaR), My NPC refers to SaR as if it were Red Version in the entrance to the Pal Park. There are others too, those are just a few.

There are also a few hints at the upcoming prequel, Pokemon Spirits and Legends. For example, the Ace Trainer in the Secret Base uses the Default name of the protagonist from that hack. Ragged Clif Gate talks about coming back in warmer weather, because those routes will be available in the prequel (when it isn't snowy). There are a few more references I've included while working on the update as well.

NeonBlue27
December 2nd, 2012, 12:13 PM
...Holy Mew that is possibly the cutest Vaporeon I have ever seen.

Wait... references in Kanto? Ah! Heh... Now I get the whole "someone moved the truck" line. It didn't even occur to me before.

I have, admittedly, not played SaR. I might at some point, but I tend to avoid stuff with Fakemon... because I've never really liked them.

Mateo
December 2nd, 2012, 12:22 PM
Haha, it is definitely a cute Vaporeon. No idea who drew it though. But yeah, that's what that line was about haha. I wanted to be a bit vague so I wouldn't spoil too much since you said you are only in Vermillion. Also, I think its already been mentioned in the thread before, but there is something you can do in Kanto that will trigger something in Johto too.

Also, I'm generally the same way when it comes to Fakemon, and currently the only Pokegod you can obtain is Pikablu (who uses Marill's sprites, because Pikablu was Marill). The exception to me was because I grew up hearing those rumours, and some were based on old artwork and beta Pokemon designs, so they don't bother me like most Fakemon.

Hey Mateo, somehow this hack can't be played with GBC mode + SGB border, while the original gold version can. This hack can be played with SGB color + border, or GBC color without the border. Of course, it doesn't affect the quality of this hack, which is a great one. Just feel weird. Perhaps something is wrong. Again, this hack is a nice job. ;)

Mateo
December 22nd, 2012, 02:17 PM
Not sure why the screenshots wouldn't be loading for you. Imageshack.us is the host I used for them, so I guess they might have been having technical difficulties when you tried to load it. That's the only thing I can think of :/

Also, I'm going to try to have the upgrade posted either on Christmas or New Years (depending on how much time I get to work on it, you know what with real-life Christmas things going on and all). But the update seems to be coming along nicely.

To re-state, the new update will add small tweaks throughout, and add some new things as well. Most of the new things will be added to improve Kanto (since as you all know it wasn't changed as much as Johto) but there will be additions to Johto as well. Well, back to hacking. Happy Christmas, guys!

Seppy
January 7th, 2013, 06:28 AM
Started and at the moment playing it.
I'd like to say that the hack is done pretty well, the snowy maps are a nice idea and those little changes are quite nice. The fact that the story continues after the actual one is nice, but it ain't so different after all, the base is always the same (still, great work changing it). What i really liked is the replacement of the rival with the daughter, much a better and more nice character to join in the adventure.
At least i can say that i started the hack during the Christmas holidays haha, still nice job, some stuff were quite cute, like the presents to substitute the egg. Nice hack indeed to have in my little computer collection to play on the emulator.

Thanks for your support and feedback, Seppy. I've been trying to go through and tweak and change more things (both in the main story, and in minor things) to make it feel less "samey". Hoping to have this update out soon.

And speaking of that update, here is a little video showing off one of these additions (and the custom ASM routine to allow me to have more than just 2 backsprites in the game). Huge thanks to Miksy91 for "sitting down with me" and teaching me that basics of Assembly, without that I would never have been able to make this work.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ozfHQFhPns

Wanting to get some feedback on this to decide if this part should stay as it is, or be changed before release. Personally, I think its a pretty funny scenario for what you will have to do to fight Erika (and it is at least somewhat based on the Anime), but like I say, wanting some feedback on what you guys as players think of it.

Great to see how much you're progressing through this - I've watched this hack grow from just having a snow tileset to having battle machines.

Once you're ready to release a demo, you should think about posting more screenshots. That way you can show some of the many new features you've implemented.

Probably a good call! I'll see about getting a few screens up even before the release to show off some of the things without giving too much away. I might even link to that Youtube video with the "girl" backsprite in the first post as well.

I just downloaded the 2012 version and its pretty cool so far. I love how you brought Crystal back, even if she isn't playable. I have a question though (sorry if its been answered already). On the new one you talk about, will our old save files still work, or will we need to start over? Either one is okay, just curious since you said it would be out soon.

Mateo
February 2nd, 2013, 10:36 PM
Your old save files would be buggy if you started over with them. You would miss a lot of events from where I've redone things earlier in the game, and the player's sprite would look wrong when walking and biking, among other things. Long story short, best idea to start a new game when I get the new one out. Sorry about that, though. But hey glad you're enjoying it so far!

I've been curious as to why you've decided to add Fakemon. I've never been a fan of Fakemon and I don't think I'll ever be.

Just a personal thought: isn't it better to insert more Ice Pokemon from future generations instead?

I do realize this comes off heavily biased. Your game is your game. I just wanted to input that however.

Mateo
February 3rd, 2013, 12:23 AM
It's fine, that's an honest question. I had thought about including some even earlier that Pyro and I had come up with for Sterling Silver, but I couldn't find the sprites (then he posted them when he showed up on Skeetendo randomly). The reason I chose these specifically was because I thought amvz08 had done a good job on creating them, and he took the time to come up with stats and learnsets and everything for them. Plus they made more sense to be included than Mudkip, Marshtomp, and Swampert did. You're right though, if he hadn't volunteered and they hadn't come out as nice as I thought they did, I most likely would have added more Ice Types from new gens (or kept Mudkip's line).

Thanks for letting me know! That's no problem though. By the way, I think I found a bug. The couple before Ecruteak have text that acts funny when you battle them. I *think* they were like... Jack and Diane? Also, the "Mateo" trainer in Ecruteak had Pokemon that were leveled kinda weird. Like the first one was tough, but the last ones were really weak. Is that a bug too?

Mateo
February 3rd, 2013, 12:11 PM
Thanks for reminding me, I actually forgot about that trainer, so I'll need to fix that still. But my NPCs Pokémon are supposed to be leveled like that. It's because I'm bad about only raising a few Pokémon, and keeping some at stupid low levels that I just keep around for HMs and stuff.

For sure or for just a long-time until you finish your other endeavours?

The way I see things is: unless your hack has a central storyline and event that it is built upon, there's always more to add here and there. Evidence being how you are adding more features now. :-)

Most of all the things I didn't like that much was just a tiny design issues.
F.ex. :
- if the player uses headbutt the snow should fall down from the tree,
- when the player slide at ice, he should end up in water (or was it impossible because of surf?)

Next group of these things - because I wanted to see more references to the Christmas time.
F.ex. :
- no christmas tree, no Santa and not even one Snowman (or maybe even some events linked with it f.ex. present under the tree)
- no christmas melodies / carrols
- some pokemon sprites could have some small changes (like stantler - which of course is a reindeer)

Third group: other ideas, or minor bugs:
- There sure are some more 3rd, 4th and 5th gen pokemon that would suit better than f.ex. Leafeon. You know they can't be all that powerful, because of the stability of all the story. But, if You would add these: Cubchoo, Beartic, Snover, Abomasnow, and Spheal family in place of similar powerful Fire pokemon, it would be even better.
- I don't know if You have fixed this, but some movesets are not perfect (best example is Glaceon which can't learn Return). What's more - the original nintendo movesets also had some logical problems (not all pokemon with claws can learn Cut).

Whew. That's all I remember for now.
I will tell something more after completing playing the hack.

With the headbutt and landing in water, I'm not sure how I could easily implement those, honestly. Although they do definitely make sense.

There are Christmas trees in most of the houses, although they don't really do anything. It could stand to have more Santa though, and Stantler could definitely use some changes (perhaps making his shiny form have a red nose like Rudolph).

I added Leafeon because it felt wrong to add one Eeveelution and not the other. Plus as someone pointed out on Skeetendo, in some parts of the world it is technically summer time at Christmas, which is why he appears on South Isle (where an NPC claims it is supposed to be summer, but Articuno has disrupted the weather). But I do agree that it could use more of the newer ice types. I'll look around and see who all I can replace.

I have already fixed Glaceon's moveset, but nice that you caught it and pointed it out. I may or may not add in the things like people learning CUT and whatnot that weren't in the original game, though. Obviously some of the movesets are a little off because of moves not existing, but in these cases, I've tried to either replace them with a similar move or take them out and adjust the levels they learn particular attacks so that the overall flow of leveling up and learning remains similar.

I think that covered everything you mentioned so far. I appreciate the feedback, and looking forward to seeing any other comments/critiques you have after your playthrough.

This is great. I'm not gonna lie when I first saw this I thought it would be the exact same as gold, but with snow. Now that I've actually taken the time to look at it, it is awesome. Ariados was one of my favourites, I'm sad about him though.

Mateo

Haha, I think a lot of people have probably assumed that as well. Thanks for taking the time to actually read it and see what it was, and glad you like it so far.

Also, sorry about Ariados. The way I chose the Pokemon to remove was by trying to think of the ones that wouldn't be suited to the cold weather. In real life, plants and bugs die back in the winter, so it seemed like those should be the first choices of Pokemon to replace to add the new ice types.

To be precise, I thought about making one BIG christmas tree in Goldenrod City or New Bark Town. Just like in real world in New York.
And for Santa, I thought about making North Pole. I remember it was implemented in Pokemon anime. But I don't know if You can add another location or must edit existing one.
It all would look like in anime - Jynx's preparing presents, Stantler eating, and similar stuff. Then You could add something like "Christmas saving quest" (in anime Ash helped ill Stantler by curing it with a special berry) activated by that special big christmas tree after getting, let's say 7th badge, and an extra battle with Santa (in anime he had Jynx, Lapras, Stantler, and Delibird).
I know it's a lot of work, and sadly I don't know nothing about hacking, so that I could help.

Mateo
February 8th, 2013, 10:34 AM
I think that could be fun if I can come up with a way to put it in that doesn't feel "forced" or "cheesey" or "trying to hard" ya know what I mean? But yeah since I already have you saving Christmas for Azalea Town by saving the Delibirds from Team Rocket, it could probably build off that, using it as a backstory or something. But we'll just have to see how it works out I guess haha.

Maybe when you help Santa you could have to deliver some presents to different people, the way you did at the start of the game, while you are looking for the berry to heal Stantler? Just an idea :)

Also I'm curious, what is the story with the guy in the cave that looks like a Secret Base that talks like he knows the player?

That might be doable, it would probably fit pretty well and be a believable thing Santa needed you to do. Not sure if I'll make him need a rare berry, or have him need a lot of normal berries the way the sick Miltank did in Gold or what I'll come up with. But I'll keep that in mind too!

Also I'm curious, what is the story with the guy in the cave that looks like a Secret Base that talks like he knows the player?

He's the player from Spirits and Legends, but since that one isn't out yet, I'm not surprised that he confused some people. I've tried to introduce him a little better in the update I'm working on, and have him play a little more of a part in the story as well. (Plus I added his house to Cherrygrove for continuity, since Spirits and Legends is a prequel to this hack).

Oh ok! That makes sense now then why he knows the player. So I guess that means that Gold is going to be in Halloween too? And will Crystal be in it? Sorry I know those are off topic haha. But that's cool, and I think its neat how you are trying to make them go together like that. :)

So I've posted a sprite/spritework request in the Help Recruitment Thread under the Team Discussions subsection but I doubt I'll get any offers. If I do, though, I'm willing to share whatever sprites.

I know that someone else made you a sprite pack in Skeetendo but I'm interested in changing trainers into new classes.

Cool, thanks for being willing to let me use whatever you guys come up with.

I'm also open to the idea of changing some of the trainer classes (I've already done that in a case or two, since I removed Firebreathers and added CueBalls, for example). So that might be cool.

I'm also thinking I'll make more use of the "Skier" and "Boarder" classes, since in Gold they were originally only found in Pryce's gym that I remember, so adding some new ones would be nice and would fit the theme pretty well.
