There is, but the only way is to talk to Bill's grandfather, the PokeFanatic, north of Cerulean City. He asks you to show him a series of Pokemon. Eventually, you must show him a Vulpix in Gold version, and he will give you a Fire Stone. There is only one. I believe you can get one through Mystery Gift, but it is very difficult. If you want to cut corners, get yourself a GameShark and hack one in there. :P

No... o_O I'm certain you have the chance to get one of each stone after you bring him the Pokemon he asks for. It shouldn't be only one stone out of the entire collection.

but if you have a universal game link you can link to blue, red, yellow and buy watever stone you like and then give it to a pokemon to hold then trade it accross to gold and take it from the pokemon and there you have it unlimited fire, water, leaf, thunder stones from blue,red,yellow^_^ but thats if you have blue, red, yellow and a universal gamelink

You buy them at the big massive Mart in Celadon City on the 4th floor

But you can't make Pokemon hold items in R/B/Y, that's the only problem with your suggestion. :\

I could trade my growlite to red/yellow/blue, use the fire stone, then trade back.

That's true, and really shouldn't have any problems, except its Happiness rating will be reset when you trade it. Click the link on my signature to learn more about Happiness Points if you want to know what I mean.
