Mine's the first, although 2nd is pretty close behind. It's just that almost all my favorite Pokemon are from the first 2 generations.
It's not like I hate 3rd, 4th & 5th, I love them all! But the 1st is just my favorite xD

Well................what are we comparing?

the region?
the pokemon?
the story?
the evolutions/pre-evos they added?
the villains?
the graphics?
the amount of nostalgia gained?
...
or which generation is the fav on most of these questions?

I have different answers for each of these.
And I like the equivalent parts of different generations for different reasons, because they are done differently.

For example in terms of pokemon,
simply comparing hundreds of unique designs with other hundreds of creatures at the same time is not an easy task to begin with,
but I cannot even directly compare them as each generation introduced pokemon with a different purpose.
So generation IV was trying to be the cherry on the cake, by complimenting the prevous 3 generations, while generation V was all about a completely unrelated fresh start.

I can see how one would compare certain groups and roles, like starters, legendaries, fossils and so on... but much further from that I have a very hard time taking anyones preference about this serious or meaningful without a page of elaboration of what they took into consideration.

My all time favorite was Pokemon Yellow and I played it alongside the original television series as well as some VHS tapes. I then bought some trading cards to compare the characters with my progress and see if I wanted to catch anything else. The good old days were my all time favorite after that would be Sapphire and Crystal.

5th Generation for me cos it introduced some of my favorite Pokemon and I love the designs of the characters as well as the yin-yang motif with Reshiram/Zekrom/Kyurem.

It's a really cool generation and that's why I love it, and it introduced my signature Pokemon!

5th... it gave me Skyla, Excadrill, Haxorus, Hydreigon, Volcarona, Gigalith and much more awesome stuff... great region, good starters (Oshawott FTW lol)

Only downside: Audino... ugly piece of {bad word lmao}

Like MiTjA mentioned, it depends, the question has various answers.

For my favorite types of Pokemon, most of them are from the 1st generation.

Anime I liked Hoenn. Same for me with the games, I love playing Sapphire.

Villains, 1 to 4, Team Rocket, they are only reason I watch the anime, Team Rocket trio always make me laugh.

@mitja all of them count

In the Anime, I love the Hoenn generation, it kept me entertained the most.

I like both 3rd and 4th Gen.
I like 3rd Gen because I like Sharpedo!
And I like 4th Gen because so much legendaries!

My favorite generation has to be the second gen. A lot the features we have today, in some shape or form came from it. special pokeballs, berries, day and night, and a bit more. Let's not forget the pokemon of the generation.

Been playing since Gen I. Since I haven't spent too much time with Gen IV, I can't really judge it. But I find Gen V more interesting and better, so Gen V (including BW2) is my favorite. Great mons, cool features (World Tournament, seasons, battle animations), awesome characters, extraordinary music, interesting story.

II and III for me - Silver cause it's my all time favourite game and Hoenn was just amazing, Emerald was such a joy to play :)

i didn't even have to think twice 4th gen all the way XD
5th gen is my second fave because its so balanced and everyone seems to like at least one thing about it and the story addition was pretty cool
3rd gen follows with its uniqueness
2nd gen was really fun and it was my first to play and it completed the first
1st gen comes in last because of how unfair and unbalanced it is
i still love all pokemon generations but i just love some more than others XD

i like cinnamon :)

Most of my Pokemon memories are from Gen I (Yellow), but I spent countless hours on Gen III (Sapphire & Emerald)

In terms of my preferences. Gen I/Gen III > Gen II > Gen V > Gen IV.

Not really a huge fan of Gen IV (other than HGSS)

Generation 1 was what started a lot of people's love for Pokemon as well it started a lot of theories. I like Generation 1 because of it's interesting back stories, glitches and for it's amazing and epic fanbase upon Pokemon Theories.

I like Gen III because of the really catchy music there. Gen V comes close for the interesting Pokemon introduced.

I love all of them, as one might expect.

GenI is my least favourite, I think. It was a rather unrefined and rough game, which is to be expected for the first in the franchise. The other four are quite closely packed together, so that makes it a little more difficult for me to choose.

Johto picked up in the problems that GenI had, and was significantly bigger than the previous game. It set the standard for the next set of games and expanded greatly on the mechanics. Johto was a much more interesting region too, I think. Hoenn was a wonderful breath of fresh air in the series having no connection to Johto or Kanto, and had some very interesting Pokemon that really stood out from the others. Sinnoh may have been the best setting but that's just my preference for frosty settings, and it introduced some of my favourite Pokemon. Unova was just faaaaaabulous. Picked up on a lot of the other game's faults (the storyline, for example) and its isolation from the other regions gave me a faint reminder of the times I used to play Yellow when I was younger. Nostalgia. <3

I think that my adventures through Sinnoh in GenIV were the most memorable though, so I would have to say that one. I have a soft spot for many of the Pokemon released in this Generation too. I'd say that GenV was a 'better' game, but IV had a certain charm to it that I can't deny. Platinum specifically, because it really improved upon Pearl/Diamond. Plus, a return to Johto was quite pleasant.

My favourite gen is, and will always be the 2nd one <3 Best Pokémon, best region, best games ever... Really, it's the generation that introduced me to Pokémon, so I obviously like it better than the other ones.

Wow, Gen 3 is winning? I thought people disliked that one.

Gen 3 takes the cake as my favorite. I've never played R/S/E ironicallly, but I grew up with Gen 3 games. My first was either Colosseum or Pokemon Channel, then I got Blue Rescue Team, then Pokemon Ranger then XD. So there's a little bit of nostalgia that makes me love Hoenn so much. But in these games, many other Pokemon than just Hoenn ones were available and I found myself liking a lot of Kanto and Johto designs. But Hoenn has the highest number of my favorite Pokemon designs and games, so I just love it the most <3

In order, I like: Hoenn, Johto, Kanto, Unova and Sinnoh.

While the first 2 Generations are pretty much tied at the top I picked Gen 2 just because Silver was the first Game I ever played, I watched Pokemon from the start but didn't play Red/Blue until they were remade as Leaf Green/Fire Red. I love them all though.

Nah, gens are always disliked by a certain percentage at their time of release, but then after a few years, the haters magically turn into "Ive always liked it"

I would say that the second gen would be my favorite. Even though I had gotten in to the series well before it, and continued playing long after (as I still do), it was really my Pokemon Gold that got me attached to Pokemon in general.

Whoo! The polls for the most part match up, which is good because I think every gen deserves some sort of respect

Anyway, 5th for me. The music is awesome, some of my favorite Pokemon, somehow managed to get me back into the anime (seriously, never saw it coming ._.) and epic story.

Generation 2 brought us great new Pokemon, and the Johto region showed us that even though the region is small, it can be filled with great Pokemon and locations. From the new Steel-types such as Skarmory and Scizor to the Legendary Dogs and Birds, to the Starters, everything about Johto is great.

Generation 3 is close behind, as it gave us the only good "fresh start" in the series. While Generation 5 certainly gave us a fresh start, the Pokemon were covered with pointless patterns and didn't have much of a Pokemon vibe. However, Generation 3 gave us a great fresh start with extremely exotic-looking Pokemon. However, these exotic Pokemon still had that Pokemon vibe, and there was a good reason for the Pokemon to look exotic: Hoenn is a tropical region. Even in real life, the animals in tropical areas look much different. So, for those reasons, Hoenn is also a great region.

Generation 2. I loved the soundtrack in those games and I loved the fact that you could go to Kanto after you defeated the E4. A lot of my favorite Pokèmon were introduced in Generation 2. Celebi, Scizor, Tyranitar, Typhlosion. The list goes on.

It's so hard to just pick one xD Gen 1 will always be a past time that I'll never forget. When it comes to how many pokemon I like in each gen, I'd probably have to stick with gen 1. However, gen 2 was also very good. Gen 1 and 2 are like a tie for me XD But if I really had to pick, I guess gen 1.

Gen III~!

Not gonna bother listing all the reasons why, but the Pokemon are awesome and the Battle Frontier is awesome. That's all that needs to be said here. :D

Second. It still has the 8-bit look and feel, improved vastly on the originals and I prefer the lack of EVs, natures, etc. — battling can purely be moves and monsters, how I like.

The third did what the fifth did — cut out as many things as it added. That is the reason, to those wondering, why Hoenn has typically been the least-liked, and why people have more recently complained about Unova.

Gen II. It essentially just took everything from the already amazing Gen I and multiplied it by a thousand. The storylines, the battles, the music etc. Gen II was incredible.

I prefer 1st gen. It set the mark. That's all. There will always be possibilities to wind up from checkpoints, but what pioneers is what counts. All hail Satoshi Tajiri for this pioneering masterpiece!

Gen 2 definitely. I loved Gen 1 to death, and as such I played it to death, so when Gen 2 came out it was like a huge breath of fresh air the likes of which I've never before felt. Playing it the first time, it felt quirkier and more special than Gen 1, and it was just such a great feeling to be able to begin again somewhere I didn't know and discover all new secrets. That was the first time that happened to me, since my first playthrough of Gen 1 I was kinda busy figuring out how to Pokemon :P

My fav is Gen 5. The graphics they put in it is amazing. It be more awesome if it was in 3D. Also the dragons are the best of all generations in my opinion.

My 2nd fav is Gen 1 Not leaf green and such, the original game. Its simplicity was always entertaining to me and the music was cool for its time.

Gen III. It had both of my favorite regions (Hoenn and Kanto), the best OST (RSE), my favorite Pokes (again, from Hoenn and Kanto), and among other things.

My second favorite gen is Gen I. There is a certain charm to those games that will never fade from my memories.

I've always loved Gen IV. It introduced some wonderful, cute and powerful Pokemon like Pachirisu,Togekiss,Yanmega,Electivire, the list could honestly go on. Sinnoh had always been a beautiful region to me as well, with interesting places and an awesome storyline.

Also Gen IV introduced more Battle Frontier places, besides the old Battle Tower like the Battle Hall,Castle,Factory and Arcade :3. There were amazing additions like the Pokeathlon,a fun place for Pokemon sport competitions, the Safari Zone where you trekked around looking for rare Pokemon.

It also introduced the amazing HG/SS, the remakes of G/S/C. I thought it was the best remake of the Pokemon series and loved how Pokemon followed you around eagerly along with some nostalgia moments from the old days.

Oh...But don't forget it was the game that first did the Physical and Special split. Which had to been the most smartest s*it I've evar seen in mah life. LOL

But it's like I said in another thread...I like Sinnoh and Johto the most, cuz its the 2 gens that introduce more further evolution/pre-evolution Pokemon. Not to mention branch-evolution Pokemon! I love the gens that have these. ^w^

Gen 2. Oh, the many hours I ended up playing that little gold cartridge of mine. However, I think the bulk of the reason why I love it most is nostalgia reasons (since Heart Gold didn't do it for me like the original Gold did) - though it also helps that second gen had plenty of pokemon that ended up becoming favorites of mine.

Gen 1/2 all day, could be nostalgia. I voted Gen 1 on the poll because thats where it all started. Gen 3-5 cant touch these two. The games are still fun though.
