View Full Version : Death is upon you... Who do you call?!

You are on a flight from Honolulu to Chicago non-stop. There is a fire in the back of the plane. You have enough time to make ONE phone call. Who do you call? What do you tell them?

Would call my brother and be like "Hey man, I love you, pass the message onto mum and dad. I'm about to die so enjoy my inheritance!"

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!

I think I have enough time to call my family and tell them that I'm about to crash in a plane and if I don't think I'd survive, I'd tell them that I love them.

Id try and call my family first, because they are my family. If I had time I might call other people I love.

Yeah my mom would be first. If I still had time after that I would call my boyfriend. Fairly easy question, as between the two of them they could get messages to whoever I'd want to say something to.

I'd use that time to find a parachute, because my phone wouldn't work anyway. Best I die trying to live than live waiting to die.

I remember hearing a lot of 'final phone calls' in the television coverage of September 11, eleven years ago. The one that has always stuck out in my mind was this woman who called her husband and got the answering machine, and it was a really quick message but it ended in "I'll miss you and I love you always." Then the line went dead. That has stuck with me ever since I heard it...

...so I wouldn't say anything like that. I guess anything you could say would be haunting but I would try not to say anything that would just echo in someone's mind forever. I wouldn't want to sort of torment them that way.

I think maybe I wouldn't make a call at all. When I think about it that way, it seems selfish. Selfish to share your final moments with a loved one and let them know how terrified you are and hand out frantic "I love you"s. I don't think I can bear the thought of getting one of those phone calls, so I wouldn't want to give one either.

Ideally, I'd give an answer but even hypothetically, I have absolutely no idea who I would call. It'd be one of those spur of the moment things you don't really give much thought to when you're doing it, even though it's such a huge decision. After all, it'd be the last person you'd ever speak to and the last person who would ever speak to you. Better mean something.

i'd call my little sister and tell her, "follow your dreams."
i think it would be quite meaningful, seeing as we don't really talk much nowadays. :-/

When I read the title I honestly thought of saying "Ghost Busters!". Anyway I'd probably call my parents and tell them that I love them and to change my facebook status to "chillin' with Jesus" just to lighten up the mood.

My sister, defs. I love her so much that I can't take a bath if she isn't outside the bathroom door. I'd tell her I love her, make a last joke, and I won't mention the fact that I'm about to die.

I'd call my best friend, tell him I love him, and what's about to happen. He would have no other way of knowing if I didn't do that, so...

I would most definitely call my significant other first. Don't get me wrong, I love my family.
For the past couple years, though, family hasn't felt like family. They ridicule me and poke fun at my personal decisions because it's not what they would do. My parents keep trying to criticize me for what I do so that I'm not an embarrassment to them.
I don't feel like I'm a part of the family anymore. So when I die, and they find out, I want them to know what they've done to me and feel bad about it, too.

I guess I've had too much time to think. :\

GHOSTBUSTERS.

Seriously, maybe they know how to put out fires. Maybe. Probably not.

Silly bit aside... I have no one to call, really.

My parents, because they honestly mean the world to me.

When you're in a plane, and about to die, who you gonna call? ghostbusters! Or jimmy johns telling them to bring a parachute.
Edit: Shoot! Someone did ghostbusters! But being serious here, my family and my best friend.

Don't be stealin' mah joke. It's my joke. Mine. No one but ME is allowed to make Ghostbusters references in this thread. BWAHAHAHAHA.

To continue conversation... my cellphone wouldn't have signal most likely. Piece of rubbish.

I'd call my brother and say "**** you"

But no, seriously, that'd be a bit too... Cruel, even though we both hate each other immensely.

I'd probably call my parents and say the obligatory cheesy sentimental stuff, say my goodbyes, apologize for all the things I have yet to apologize for...

"Hey, mom? Yeah...I'm kind of in a bad situation here...but I'll be okay! Really! Fires can only destroy my body, but they can never destroy my soul. That said, I love you, and tell everyone I love them, too." -click-

I would be clever and do a conference call on my mobile to my parents, sister and my girlfriend, but is that cheating? XD

Anyway, it would be my parents and girlfriend I would speak too, because I can't just leave one or the other with no last words.

I don't think it works that way. That one message might be stuck in your head because it is a tragic story, not because of 9/11, but because she got the answering machine. At least that's what struck me as the most sad. I think the person you would call would be grateful that they were able to have a last conversation with you. Maybe you have some confessions to make, maybe you had argued before, and I would always want to clear my heart of things like that before I die in a crash, and also give the other person the chance to. I can only imagine the terror if a parent loses their child while they still had things to tell them. By refusing to share that final moment with them you deny them closure too.

I'd call 800-4-CHOICE. I'd want my last dying phone call to be booking a room at my favorite Quality Inn though I'd never be able to stay.

In all seriousness though, I wouldn't be on the phone. It's kinda hard to make a phone call from a plane when all you have is a landline. Besides, if that fire was in the passenger compartment, I'd be going straight for the fire extinguisher. And if it wasn't I'd just be freaking out xD

I'd at least call my dad to say if I don't make it back alive, that I I love him and to tell my brothers the same. And if there's time tell my older brother I'm sorry for all the times I might of made him angry.

I'd call my brother, tell him what was happening and such. I'd probably tell him, "Hey, its fine. Push on without me. I'll be in a better place in a matter of minutes. Goodbye, thanks for everything. Tell mom and dad the same." /end cheesy response
