Online battling Facilities

So, you're an aspiring pokemon trainer who has beaten everyone in the game, defeated the Elite 4 quite a few times, and wants a tougher challenge? Well, have no fear! There are various online simulators to use when you want to battle! They simulate real Link battles, and you can fight people from all over the world, such as Brazil, Canada, China, Australia, and even Penguins from the south pole! (Well, no one thinks so, but that's just a government conspiracy =P) As of today, there are 2 simulators for GSC, 1 for Ruby/Sapphire, and 2 for RBY, for all those old skool ppl.

For the aspiring trainers, everyone online plays by a different set of rules that you may have done with your friends. Just to list a few of the most important ones:

00bers: 00bers are Pokemon that are far superior to normal Pokemon. These Pokemon include Mew, Mewtwo, Lugia, Ho-oh, and in some cases, Celebi. A Snorlax that knows Curse is called a "Curselax", which is also banned, due to how strong it can be. (Use of these Pokemon depend on the rules that you are playing by). RS: Lati@s with Soul dew are automatically banned, while Kyogre and Groundon are sometimes banned.

Clauses: There are many "clauses" to battling that you can't break. Some of the most played ones:

Sleep Clause: you can only put one of your opponent's Pokemon to sleep. Opponent using Rest does not count towards this limit. If you put another one to sleep, they will probably quit.

The Species Clause: you can't have more then one of the same Pokemon on your team. For example, no 2 Blissey, but you can have a chansey and Blissey at the same time. This clause is automatically enforced on Netbattle (see below), but it can be broken on GSBot and RBY battling. Try not to break it.

OHKO Clause: Don't use more than 1 pokemon that knows OHKO attacks. Generally this is used because ppl who do are viewed as having no skill. But not all players play by this.

Self-KO Clause: If you are on your last pokemon, don't use Explosion in hopes of killing another pokemon, because in some cases, it may be Golem VS Gligar, and Golem exploding means draw, which is unfair.

Battling for Red/Blue/Yellow
For battling on Red/Blue/Yellow games, there is a website that you can go to. There is nothing to download at all! The site is

http://porygon.azureheights.com Which redirects you automatically to

http://porygon.math.miami.edu:7137/

However, there is another one, which is, in my opinion, better than the above mentioned system, it's less bugged! the address is...

http://www.marblepalace.net/pbs.html *Down*

However, there are some downsides to the battler:

-- Because the simulator is based on an honour system, you can choose any move for any pokemon, like electrode with spore, or Gyarados with recover
-- You cannot chat in the simulator, so you can't talk to whoever you're battling (so if they suddenly stop moving, you don't know why)
-- There are some bugged moves that needs fixing

The Newest RBY simulator is Netbattle (http://lugia.pgamers.com/mlugia/netbattle.shtml) , th the creation of the RBY mode. It requires a 5.5mb download, but it also runs GSC battling at the same time.

*I will note that there IS in fact an RBYbot, but I don't have a tutorial for it.

Battling for Gold/Silver/Crystal
There are 2 easy ways to battle for Gold,Silver, and Crystal. The first battling method is called GSBot, and it uses bots in the IRC universe. A little harder to get started, but much less things to download. The other is called Netbattle, which is a specialized program. Because it uses pictures and stuff, it is quite a bit larger than getting GSBot to work. It is also a work in progress, so there are occassional bugs present. Choose which guide you wish to see.

GSBot (http://lugia.pgamers.com/mlugia/gsbot.shtml)

Netbattle (http://lugia.pgamers.com/mlugia/netbattle.shtml)

=========================================================

Battling for Ruby/Sapphire
Currently, there is are 2 ways to battle for Ruby and Sapphire: The Rsbot. Using the IRC universe, RSBot is a bot that simulates real battles. Click on it to see the tutorial.

Rsbot (http://lugia.pgamers.com/mlugia/rsbot.shtml)

As well, Netbattle released a new version, Version 0.93, which also features RS, along with FR/LG as well. (Just like RSbot, but easier to use and has picture :D)

Netbattle's Homepage (http://www.netbattle.net)

The file is only 5.8mb large to download, and It's so straighforward in terms of team building and battling that I really don't think a tutorial is necessary.

Disclaimer: I copied all materials from the page I wrote for Lugia's dungeon (http://lugia.pgamers.com). As well, I reposted this cuz it's not here. *wants kairi to sticky* ;x)

Post any questions you have about any of the above programs here.

I just tried Netbattle. It's better than I expected, but I find it hard to keep track of everything throughout the battle, what with there being no animations and quick text updates an' all.

I just played around with a few Pokemon just to try it out. Beat the first guy fairly easily, then got my backside royaly tanned by a Snorlax/Blissey/Skarmory user.

Kingdra (Leftovers) - Surf, Haze, Dragon Breath, Ice Beam
Alakazam (Leftovers) - Psychic, Recover, Thunderwave, Fire Punch
Machamp (Leftovers) - Cross Chop, Earthquake, Seismic Toss, Rock Slide
Forretress (Mint Berry) - Double Edge, Toxic, Double Team, Rest
Tyranitar (Leftovers) - Earthquake, Rock Slide, Crunch, Flamethrower
Crobat (Leftovers) - Wing Attack, Mean Look, Toxic, Confuse Ray

Forretress was actually my most useful 'mon. ;)

[I realise this thread hasn't been posted in for ages]

Just so you know, if you register at the NB forums, they're betatesting the next version, 0.92E which is basically a pre-release of Pokemon Netbattle for Ruby, Sapphire, FR, LG. (along with the original GSCRBY stuff)

and if you want an RMt post a thread bout it :p

No-one replies to my RMTs. Probably lost all respect after I introduced the novel idea of the Crunching Steelix, who still exists today. [Yipee]

I wasn't looking for a rating anyway. Just replying to the thread, as you do. ;)

and I'm quite sure that the main programmers and etc etc are on the way to fix it already ^_^; No need to worry about it. Mana Lugia is probably only visiting forums to forums of Pokemon games doing the advertisments ;p

I'll get it... when my computer is fixed >>;

Problem fixed for Mew9.

All you have to do is Uninstall Version 0.92 and 0.92H first, and download the full install from the site to install 0.93.

The auto-update isn't working at the moment.

Have fun!

Also, Mew9, when I get better, I'll face ya, and we can even post log here ^_^

no one ****ing clauses Snorlax but stupid newbies. get a ****ing Skarmory/Jirachi/Tyranitar/Metagross/Weezing/Suicune or something, many things counter it. Groudon (NOT GROUN-DON) is the best pokemon in the game, Kyogre is second best. THEY ARE ALWAYS BANNED. Lati@s is uber regardless of Soul Dew. Celebi and Jirachi aren't uber. And what about Rayquaza and the various Deoxys? They are ubers too.

"00" is not a vowel, it's a number, and a stupid internet nonation. it should be ubers not teh 00BeRs.

Wow, go Cromat.

And why would Snorlax be banned?

Mew is only Uber because of it's vast movepool, whereas Jirachi and Celebi are regarded as legendary, as their movepool is more limited in terms of it's uses.

I'm afraid that, as Lion Heart seems to have noted as well, all of this is true, except I will say that the swearing is indeed inappropriate.

This tutorial is out of date in many ways, also. For instance, NetBattle actively supported RS for several months now. (I'm not saying it's a very decent tutorial, but perhaps someone could update it?)
