Simple question - who are your favourite video game characters, and why? Feel free to list all of em', with pictures if you prefer! Makes this thread seem colorful indeed.

My favourite video game character is Sonic the Hedgehog. I love his design and also his personality.

Mario, of course! He's the defeater of Bowser, the saver of Princess Peach, and the hero of Mushroom Kingdom. He first made his appearance in Donkey Kong as Jumperman, and has been appearing in hundreds of titles ever since. Plus, he's the mascot of Nintendo and has great plumbing skills. So far, I've played almost every game that he's been in.
Link is my second favorite. Link may not have the ability to speak, but he does possess an unbreakable spirit and an amazing courage. He is the protector of the Hyrule Kingdom, and has saved Princess Zelda on many occasions from the evil Ganondorf. n__n

They're all so cool and female empowerment! I love them so much, they're kinda like virtual role-models. I'm similar to Daisy, if anything, but her sis kicks butt too. :P

Hmm, you want pictures, do you?

And then maybe the classic Sonic characters when they didn't talk, I dunno. Bombermen white and black are cool too, Mega Man et al, classic series, is alright by my books as well. I actually like Pac-Man to a degree as well.
As for why, eh, I dunno anymore. Habitual, mostly.

"Desperate times, right?" *wink*
God I love Chloe.

Any game that I can use Yoshi in, I always pick him. Mario Party, Super Smash Brothers, Mario Kart, anything! It's all about Yoshi. Also, when I was younger I really liked this game called Yoshi's Island or something. It was a really cool game on the Nintendo 64 based off of Yoshi.

Oh man, this is such a tough decision. I think I'm going to go with Tails from Sonic The Hedgehog, as that's the first thing that pops into my mind, but there are so many characters that I absolutely adore. To name a few, Lucas from the Mother series has always intrigued me, and I actually really like Waddle Dee from Kirby; especially if you've seen any of the shows/movies that branched off from the video games.

Sonic, Tails, and Shadow from Sonic the Hedgehog. Though, all of them are really fun and colorful.
Lilith from Borderlands 1&2.
Nathan Drake from Uncharted.
They're all huggable or overly powerful. <3

Spyro and Crash have been two of my favorites for almost my whole video gaming life. I've always enjoyed the games and they're fun little characters to control.
A lot of my childhood gaming involved all of these characters from Humongous Entertainment, including Spy Fox, Freddi Fish, Putt Putt, Pep, and Pajama Sam. My nostalgia is telling me to post them.
I also used to play Viva Piñata back in the day. Horstachio was always a cool character, but there are also some others.
Not many contemporary characters have made my list of favorite characters. Maybe it's because of the lack of nostalgia.

Megaman, of course! Why not a character from my favourite (now discontinued. D= ) platformer!
Serge and Kid from Chrono Cross are pretty cool too. Kid is a thief and she will go do anything at any rate to get do what she must. And Serge...well...he's a troubled mute.
Bomberman, because why not?!

((I sincerely apologize for the upcoming walls of text.))
Well, for starters, in Ace Attorney, there's Maya Fey.
My one true waifu, and one of my favorite characters of all time, she holds a spot here for so many reasons. For starters, she's easily one of the quirkiest characters in the franchise (which is saying a LOT). She's rather cheeky and noticeably smug, which is actually a facade to hide the pain she's really felt all her life, shown through much of the original trilogy. Things always get hard for her, but she always pops back up with a large grin, genuine or otherwise.
... Plus, she likes burgers and children's franchises. That adds points.
... This next one is a tie. A big tie. A four-way tie. Between Professor Hershel Layton, Luke Triton, Flora Reinhold, and Cookie, of Professor Layton.
I'll be perfectly honest here: The character designs of the Professor Layton franchise tend to range from rather average to downright terrifying (Looking at you, Chief Sheffield!). But these characters just go to show this isn't really an error in judgement, because it can make some really appealling characters when it wants to.
Let's start with the current protagonist of the entire franchise, Hershel Layton. Layton was intended to essentially be a few-flawed Phoenix Wright. Through the light British accent, the heavily calm demeanor in almost any situation, and being a fencer/sword-fighter/time-traveler/guardian/archaeologist/townsaver/soon-to-be-savior of the world, they certainly hit the nail on the head. Very rarely is he ever at a disadvantage, and he often figures out the truth behind mysteries before any of the other characters do or even the players do, in a way very similar to Phoenix himself (Not to mention the epic fingerpoints of epicness). He also seems to have the ability to make any contraption out of any materials at the plot's convenience, such as a made-from-scratch peddling helicopter, so that's awesome, too. Despite being more or less flawless, though, Layton actually goes through quite a bit of development throughout the franchise, one of the most noteable bits of development being the loss of his childhood friend which lead him to take up a career in archaeology. He CAN grow worried and concerned when situations grow outside of his control, and he has certainly been held down quite a few times in the past.
Luke Triton possesses the child-like attitude we've seen many-a-time in fictional media. Luke acts as the apprentice (#1) to the Professor, acting more-or-less as the Professor's #1 fan. His goal in life is to become a true gentleman and follow in his mentor's footsteps. Despite wanting to be a gentleman with learning to solve puzzles and selflessly helping others in need, he still possesses a child-like arrogance and love of childish fun that often portrays him as being otherwise.
... Not to mention he likes soft, fluffy things. And if that isn't enough, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfBEqJZjM1c
Flora, overall, is just so, SO gorgeous. She has a soft voice and a modest physique, along with a nice anime-esque art style, and the gentle, kind-hearted rich girl demeanor that make her a character very easy on the eyes. Her moments throughout the franchise have given her many an adorable moment and she is DEFINITELY an underrated character, even if she is still technically positively received. She's a gorgeous character and extremely loveable, and I'm glad they made her happen.
http://24.media.tumblr.com/bd8f522c44c4ac0d06b72a00d3cdc814/tumblr_mi0yp7kqB91ri336mo1_500.png (She's so underarted, I'm so sorry. <<; )
Cookie... is more of an interesting case. She's a side character in the game Miracle Mask, and overall is very, VERY unimportant to the plot of the game itself. Her point in the game is essentially just to act as a sort of damsel-in-distress for Luke, as her mother constantly loses track of her. The very first time you meet her, she talks to Luke with a very informal tone, choosing to call him "Shorty", despite being noticeably shorter than him herself. Upon him offering to help her return to her Mother, and doing so, she retracts her informal treatment of him and calls him her hero, leaving with an adorable giggle. She gets lost several other times, and throughout, her reactions toward Luke continue to vary, ranging from calling him by his name, Hero, and even Lukie-poo.
... So essentially, her adorableness come from her tough attitude, big, eye-covering hat, and crush on Luke. I promise she's cuter in the game.
Next, Kid Icarus: Uprising. We have Pit.
This character. THIS CHARACTER.
Of all the ways Pit could have been rebooted, this is my favorite out of all of the possibilities. At first glance, he seems like a generic, serious character to fight evil and save the world. But his dialogue shows him otherwise: He's actually a very clumsy, quirky, awkward character with tons of wisecracks and a ton of strength in his arsenal. Somehow being stronger than all of the other Centurions, BY FAR, he's the Captain of Palutena's royal guard, and is able to take on ARMIES of Underworld forces. He is the one who is first (and often only) sent into the fray to fight the Underworld forces. He's also selfless, being shown to put his own life behind in concern even of his own enemies at times. As well, he's absolutely hilarious to watch in action, because his dialogue shows him off as a very awkward, clumsy character, with him constantly getting flustered and being too thick-headed to understand some of the jokes that sail right over his head.
He's just too loveable to ignore.
... I'm just gonna leave off here because good god, I spent an hour plus on this post and I am tired of typing for it. Good day.

My favorite character is probably Boo from Mario. I have no idea why I like him so much. He has an awesome design, but he hasn't really played a major role. Though, I'm always Boo on Mario Party. I also like Bowser and Luigi. I'm not counting pokemon characters of course.
September 16th, 2013, 07:20 PM
My favorite character is the cliche-ist of cliches. Mario.
I grew up with Mario games, I've woken up to the sound of my siblings playing Mario games too many times to count. I used to spend countless hours playing Mario games with my brothers and sisters as a kid (ok and admittedly as an adult as well).
Yoshi comes in a close second, though.

These have some spoilers, by the way.
Inigo from Fire Emblem Awakening, because he's funny, cool, and hits on most of the girls he sees (only the ones that look like they'd say yes to a date). I just like characters like that because they're confident and not afraid to be who they are. He seems like a carefree playboy, but he actually has a sad past (or future, depending on how you look at it).
Zack Fair from Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core. He's WAY cooler than Cloud in my eyes. I love his story. During his final stand against the Shinra army, his Digital Mind Wave (DMW) goes out of control as he gets weaker and worn down. It REALLY hit me in the feels, since the DMW is his thoughts and memories, and that in his dying thoughts, he thought of his friends and eventually only Aerith, and the time he spent with her. And then his final moments with Cloud! Man, I love Zack!

Who else could it be other than Lulu?
She's a badass black mage who has a wicked sense of sarcastic humour. She's sharp, direct, but also very mothering and caring (especially with Yuna). Nobody messes with Lulu.

Salvador - Borderlands 2
I really like Salvador, he can dual wield any weapon combo there is in the game, and he also can regenerate bullets, which is pretty OP :D

He Looks So BADASS!! with his Z-Sabre, Pistol, and Has the Mighty God Weapon: the Zero Knuckle.
2. Shadow the Hedgehog.
This Hedgehog is SO BADASS! like when he Eliminated those Robots just by Skating Past them in Sonic 06. also This Hedgehog can do So Much Stuff with "Chaos Emeralds!".

Out of all characters in the history of video games, which ones would you say are are your most favorite? Is there a reason why you like these characters? When was the first time that you were introduced to them? :o
Personally, I'm a big fan of Mario from the Super Mario series. With the right power-ups, he could fly, go invisible, transform his body into complete metal, throw fireballs, and do all sorts of tricks and stunts. He's saved Princess Peach from the evil Browser on many occasions, and has done quite a lot of good deeds to the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario is also the main mascot of Nintendo, one of the leading video game companies in the industry alongside Sony and Microsoft. Mario's got tons of games based around him, such as Mario Tennis, Mario Kart, Mario Party, and more. This guy is one of the most popular characters to ever set foot into the world of video games—even those who don't play games know who Mario is.
Link from the Legend of Zelda series has gotta be one of my favorites, too. Link may not be very talkative (honestly, I've never heard him say anything in any of the Zelda games that I've played so far), but for a guy his age, he's got a lot of skills. He's a master swordsman. He can handle any type of swords that you give to him pretty nicely. As long as he has a sword in his hand—even a wooden sword—nobody can get in his way. When it comes to using shields, he's also pretty good. Whenever he's holding onto a shield, his opponents always get a hard time trying to hits on him. He's able to run quite fast, and also has the ability to climb even the tallest mountains without breaking a sweat.
I'm a big fan of Ezio as well, who was one of the main characters of Assassin's Creed II. Ezio is nearly identical to Link, but he had more realism added into his character. Assassin's Creed games are based off of real-life events, so all characters that were featured in these games were made to look as if they were once a "real" person. d:

Some of my favourite video game characters include Yuri Lowell, from Tales of Vesperia, because he has quite the spoinky attitude when it came to situations, plus, he has quite the sarcastic side too, which is always cool. There's also Arietta, the Wild from Tales of Abyss, because she's really cute, and I'm really sad that she turned out to be a villain, because she had the potential to be a hero, and 'part of the hero group'.There's also Ange Serena, from Tales of Innocence, in which if you've played Tales of Abyss, you'll see that she's essentially a female Jade. Pascal from Tales of Graces, because she's just... crazy.
Outside of the Tales series, (and I already said this on another thread) for the Sonic characters, I would say my favourite character from the Sonic series would have to be Tails and, well, if she counts, Wave the Swallow, because they're both pretty brilliant when it comes to technology. Well, granted, Dr. Eggman is also pretty brilliant and I like him too, but, I just... don't care for his personality sometimes. I just really like Tails's bright and happy side, with a strong desire to help his friends out with technology, and with Wave, you know -- she's someone that knows what she wants, and well, I do like her kind of "spunky" yet snobby attitude.
Now then, there's actually a character thread already thaaat's.. not quite dead yet, so, I'll merge this thread with the other one~

Master Chief Petty Officer John-117 - Halo Franchise
Reason: He's seen so much in his life. Abducted from his parents and forced into the Spartan program he has suffered so much and lost even more. The last thing he's loved in his life, which was taken from him in Halo 4, was Cortana. Now alone, what else does he have?
Very awesome character in my opinion. If I could describe him in one word it would be. "Pillar".
Nikolai Belic - Grand Theft Auto IV
Reason: Just a cool character all around. He's got that demeanor about him that lets you know: He's a cold-blooded killer but he still respects those who respect him and ultimately he's a good friend. I love this character so much.
Simon 'Ghost' Riley - Modern Warfare 2
Reason: What little time I had to ally myself with this character made me have so much fun. He was such a cool character that was a true soldier and never stopped fighting for himself, for his country and for his allies. His death was a big hit to me.
Franklin Woods - Black Ops & Black Ops II
Reason: Such an emotional soldier. Although he did what he was suppose to do under the orders of the USA, he still was a stronger ally to Alexander Mason and his fellow soldiers more than he ever was to his government. Between the two games he was featured in. You see what he went through and he still fought. A strong willed person who would not betray his friends or country. Even as he was tortured and thrown into a crate for 3 weeks with his dead soldiers. Truly an intense character.
October 15th, 2013, 07:06 PM
Riku - Kingdom Hearts
Reason: He's not perfect, and he's not the hero. He is dark and can fall to rage and jealousy. But he learns not to be ashamed of himself and embraces himself for who he is.
zer0 - Borderlands 2
Reason: He speaks in haiku. He has a big sword. That is all.
Bianca - Pokemon Black and White
Reason: She symbolizes how not everybody is destined to greatness. But she continues hold her head up high. You don't have to be the best to believe in yourself.
Medic - Team Fortress 2
Reason: He's a good guy.

Currently, my favorite character is Desmond Miles from the Assassin's Creed series. He has to deal with so much crap, and doesn't know what is going on most of the time but goes on with it for the good of the Assassin's. Next I would have to say Joker and Sloman Grundy from he Batman games.
November 8th, 2013, 06:53 PM
GLaDOS - Portal 2:
Reason: Likable personality, intellectual, classic robot villain, memorable voice, and fantastic dialogue.
Xion - Kingdom Hearts:
Reason: My emotions.
Solaire - Dark Souls:
Reason: A hero amongst heroes. A light in the darkest of ages. Shrouded in mystery, yet, trust worthy. A total sun bro.

The one and only
I'm pretty sure everyone is sick of hearing why though, haha.
Solid Snake (Metal Gear Solid)
Kyle Hyde (Hotel Dusk)
Gumshoe (Ace Attorney)
Hades (Kid Icarus: Uprising)
