View Full Version : Operation Good Friday - Signatures

Mr Cat Dog
March 19th, 2005, 06:23 AM
As I'm sure you've noticed, there are some pretty abysmally large signatures of both text and pictures out there. Warnings apparantly do nothing, so the staff have decided simply just to put everyone on final warning of their signatures. This applies to everyone. Please read the signature rules to find out if your sig is breaking them, then edit where appropriate. If you do not do so by Good Friday (25th March), then if your sig is found, it shall be editted and/or deleted where appropriate by the higher staff.

You have been warned. The deadline is Good Friday. Edit your signatures, or face the consequences.

Also, DO NOT use this thread to ask whether your sig is OK. Use this thread instead:

Is my sig OK? (http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=33564)

When I put the pictures into code tags, will the original size of the image be considered, or the size of the code tag box?

Hypothetically, isn't that a good thing. Not for the mods. But for lazy members. Cause if they have a whole heap of crud then it won't really matter anyways... Meh.
Is mine breaking the rules. I don't think it is. I edited it. And I only added a very little bit.

Your sig is fine CoR... but if you hadn't put it in code then it would have been editted. It's just the size of the box that matters.

The rules don't state anything about size 1 text, so for the time being, I'll just assume that my signature is very close to the limit. Although, just say and I'll shorten it.

Is mine suitable? I measured the picture and it is just a bit smaller than the example in the rules.

Mr Cat Dog
March 19th, 2005, 06:52 AM
If its smaller than the rules then its fine. Why would we penalise you for being inside the rules?

Your sig is so cute. A cute animal holding a gun.
Yeah your sig looks about right. But to me I think they let you have a bit too many pixels for pics.

Mr Cat Dog
March 19th, 2005, 06:54 AM
Oh, and DZ? Since you have images, you'll have to cut back on the amount of text you have if you want to make it legit.

Sorry MCD! *takes away Hot Girl lyrics* Okay now?

Are you ever on SPPF anymores? Shame they took away the arcade. I was trying to beat ya high score on Mini Putt!

Yours is still over the limits, Josh. ^_^;

Edited mine a bit. Just to be sure, I'll ask... is it okay?

Mr Cat Dog
March 19th, 2005, 07:50 AM
Er, yeah Ty's sig is fine. Although DZ, you should either edit out your HP thing, the VOTE Dr Zoidberg... etc or the comp terminology.

Also, for future reference, I would prefer it if this didn't become a thread asking if sigs were OK. That kinda defeats the objective of reading the rules and adjusting it yourself. If you would still like to query... then make a thread in Q+F and I'll gladly offer any help there.

This is very good, I've been feeling like "when would someone organise this". Good luck guys and may this help keep PC under bounds. By the way MCD, very preoffesional looking Thread title and very mature too ( I thought the American army was taking over PC on good Friday.XD!). Anyway instead of starting a new thread in Q/F, there is already a stickied thread, so you could ask there http://pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=18600.

*Points to my Sig*, is that okay? J/K.

Actually, that thread is for reporting messed up sigs. As in, messed up codes, not large ones. ^_^;

Mr Cat Dog
March 19th, 2005, 08:58 AM
Yeah, I got the idea from when SPP did this last year on Valentine's Day, and called it the Valentine's Day Massacre. :P And I might as well start a thread in Q+F

Is my sig OK? (http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=33564)

Use this thread to ask about whether your sig is OK, and within the guidelines.

We needed this thread, nice work.

Operation Good Friday will be great, we seriously need some peoples sigs cut down dramatically.

When I put the pictures into code tags, will the original size of the image be considered, or the size of the code tag box?
Not really. Back when everyone used the code tags to fit a large sig in a small space it would still have to load them images (much like how everyone now has like a 2mb pic in their sig). So Steve said no more use of code tags to make your sig to make it smaller.

Maybe now the sigs won't be over run.

Shouldn't we edit the rules to make that so then? As I thought that was allowed... o_O

Allstories
March 19th, 2005, 12:22 PM
On this other board I go to everyone must either have no sig or a 325x60 image. Maybe we should do something like that.

Mr Cat Dog
March 19th, 2005, 12:24 PM
That's a bit restrictive don't you think? I, at least, would like to think PC offers a lot more freedom than that particular forum... as that hardly allows for anything.

Allstories
March 19th, 2005, 12:30 PM
But the rule isn't meant to be restrictive, it's so there's more emphasis on people and their actual posts instead of enormous signatures. But yeah, it may not be the most suitable rule for this sort of forum. But getting rid of all those ridiculous sigs is a good idea.

Shouldn't we edit the rules to make that so then? As I thought that was allowed... o_OSteve made an Announcement about having all the code tags. And very few use it anymore so there isn't any need to add that to the sig rules.

On this other board I go to everyone must either have no sig or a 325x60 image. Maybe we should do something like that.

That is a 325x60 image. I like smaller sigs but that is way too small. The sig rules on PC is good (it's not like we slapped together stuff here and there, we did put a lot of though into the sig rules).

I hope my siggy is ok. I tried to make it smaller by puting the text as it is. I have also been to a forum where no siggy is allowed. I used to go to an RPG forum, and people were only allowed to put their character's stats. And if someone there had other images or stuff in their siggies, they would either get a serious warning, or get banned.

Is my Sig Ok. :surprised Do I have to make it more small. This is a very nice rule :cross-eye though. It will keep PC in control. :bandit:

Yesh, I'm sooo glad we finally are taking this sig business into effect. XD I've warned a few members in the past about sigs, and they all actually did as I said. They must like me. XD

Anyways, everyone remember that the deadline ish next Friday! So get those sigs all fixed up! ^__^

Rahul - Ideally, you should have asked in the "Is my sig OK?" thread, but I can tell you that to make it legitimate, you should group your text together so that it isn't spread out all over the place. Other than that, its fine.

Kelsey - My first major moderation thingy is a success... I feel so proud! XD

XD Is it okay if - I mean I don't wanna mini-mod - I've been PMing a few people telling them about OGF and saying their sigs are too big. I mean I'm not warning them but just telling them.

The Easter Police are the Christmas Police that go around deleting giant signatures on other forums.

Mr Cat Dog
March 21st, 2005, 03:47 AM
Yeah, I'm the Easter Police. Just like Santa Claus is the Christmas Police XD

But yeah, Kylie... anything to help really is good enough. Just don't sound patronising or anything, especially to newbs here ^_^

Actually my brother is the Christmas Police. Every Christmas we have a line and if you go over you lose a present.

The New Years Police go around making sure people don't have calendars from previous years.

So yeah, that'd help a bit, Kylie.

I thought the easter bunny was the easter policething.

Good strategy to get rid of big sigs, and we warn that the Easter Bunny Army will do some sig smashing...

I spend more time in the PM saying I'm sorry if I sound patronising then actually explaining OGF and that their sig is too big. XD
