Hello, I am funnybunny. I am visiting this forum for about 2 months and today I registered.

Me and a friend from the RPG2knet forum (Raccoon) are working on a Pokemon game too and I think I let you know.
The name of the game is "Pokemon Champion". It is about a boy that is trying to be the best Pokemon trainer in the world.
Oh yeah, it also in RM2k(RPGmaker2000).

Story:
Your dad comes home from his trip to the Pokemon league and he has seen the best battles in his life. He asks you to become a Pokemon trainer just like the ones he has seen at the tournament. He goes to the Pokemon Prof and asks him if he could give you a Pokemon to start your journey.
This is as far as we gotten with the story but all bad thinks happen on you way to be the best Pokemon trainer in the world. ;)

Features:
- It has CBS that is almost done, it just needs some more Pokemon :P you can battle Ratatta's, Pidgey's and Caterpie.(edited 5-4-2005)
- You can catch Pokemon.
- Use Potions.
- Trainer and normal battle is almost done.
- Every attack has PP
- It has a CMS, also almost done, just the Pokedex :dead: .
- A storing system, fully working.
- You can deposit pokemon into boxes/teams and withdraw them.
- A shop system, also fully working.
- Only has 2 items :P

Characters:
Well we haven't got names for them, in the demo you will be called "Ash" and "Gary" We now have names(edited 5-4-2005)

Jep, the catching system fully works with the Pokemon you can fight now(Ratatta and Pidgey) and yes, that is a CBS. Made it myself

Ah ok, thats cool. I'll try help and provide constructive critisium (sp?)

1: I suggest you use the message box from the pokemon games, and not the default message bar...

There, all you do is show the picture, turn the message box to transparent, and just allign the text so it fits in the box. I feel this will help round off your game more to look alot better. If your already ready using it, thats cool.

2: Speaking of making things look better, I think you should get a platform for the hero pokemon in battles (the semi circle of grass). And just allign your pokemon to a bit more on the left.

Well, we have a pokemon message box, it is just not in the older screens (if you have looked at the RPG2knet topic). So don't worry.

About that hero Pokemon thing, I did it at first but than it is over the PP box(The PP box isn't a picture, it are events) so that is why the hero Pokemon is so far right. About hat grass under that hero Pokemon, it looked very weerd so I removed it.

But thanks anyway, I like it when people help me improve stuff. :)

Very nice. I like the CBS and the CMS! They're all done very professionally, well, from what I can tell. But my favourite part is the Withdrawal/Deposition of Pokemon. That looks much better than the games' way of doing it. This is really great so far. Keep up the great work ^_^

The game looks incredibly impressive so far! The PC system and the Pokemon's stats look awesome!

Well, most of the screens are uploaded by Raccoon, the one I uploaded are .gif. Also a very small image size.

BTW: Peekimon: What is a CNS? We just don't know.

Thanks for all the good reactions, I just started with some maping so that you have some playtime when the demo is out (probably end of this week, begin next week). First town is done and I start working on route 2. Meanwhile Raccoon is working on a "super story" as I called it. This is going to be (hopefully) a story that is not to easy to follow but cool to play.

Well, I should not get all the credits for the mapping, Raccoon made most of the maps so far. The second town was made by me and that is just about all I have mapped, well I helped Raccoon with some maps.
Demo is almost done :D.

There is just this one small problem, I am missing a sound. Dunno if someone has it, it is the sounds that the doors make when you enter a PKcenter or a Mart. I can't find it anywhere.

That's the original Door sound,

we got 2 outside maps(route1, town1 and 2 and we are working on route 2), also got 10 houses and 2 of them have an upstairs. In the demo you can also play the testmaps, this is a part of Leafgreen(Palet Town, route 1, Veridian City and a part of route 2) those maps have no inner parst beside the PK center and the Mart.
It is not much but it is nice taster.

Don't worry, we are going to release a demo really really soon.
Oh yeah, we are going to put some totaly new pokemon in it (not sure but I think so). They are created my my cousin, he realy can draw awsome. Will give you some more info about them when the time is right ;).

Okay, I just finished the trainer card and I want you opinion
about it.

Everything works even the Trainer ID, it is a random number(0-99999) so everyone is supose to have it's own ID :). But I think it needs some grafic changes, just dunno what.

Well, you could try outlining the numbers with a different colour to suit the trainer card.

Try matching the number colour with the letter colour also change the numbers shadow, it looks odd with the trainer card.

About the screeny:
This is a part of route 2, you can see here that we added the arrow when you go in a house or leave one, also you can see that the signs are working really nice.
This is Sam's house, more I will not tell ;) (It has something to do with the story).

About that arrow, I have no idea how to pull that of without making a 20 varibale size system(not really but you get the idea....I hope) :P. It is such a small thing, not going to change it unless it really bugs people :P.

Sorry about the lag of good updates but I haven't seen Raccoon on MSN yesterday and today, he is working on some maps(the last one for the demo) but sinds I can't reach him, I can't do much but think what might be happening.

Why bother making it a 20 variable system? Conditional Branches makes the job much easier.

what I mean is that I don't wany to make it to complicated, it is also at to many places to change without a lot of work :P.
But if I would change it.... I see some weird things:
When you enter the event(On Hero touch) on the left, so you will be facing right, it will do nothing but when you look down, it will not work becouse you already triggerd it.
When you change it to On touch(Hero, Event) you can move, then when you add a input and stuff I will corrupt the menu XD. See to complicated.

Actually the door arrows only trigger if you go from a tile above it (so you're facing down when you step on the trigger tile) hence why using a conditional branch would be much easier and make the script work as it was meant to.

I will tell you how I made it:

I got 5 event for one arrow :P, I gave them a number:
1. truns the switch "show arrow" off
2. same as 1
3. same as 1
4. this is the arrow and also the teleport to the house(when the switch is on)
5. truns the switch "show arrow" on

When the switch is on you will see that arrow and will be able to teleport to the house, this is no problem. The real prblem is turning the switch on. If you put a FORK in there that will only trun the switch on when you look down, when the switch is off ther will not be an arrow and so is the teleport also gone (:P I made that on page).
Now when you are blocked, in this picture you can't move up. The switch will still be on, and so will the arrow when you look up.

And no, the arrow isn't always there when you stand by the door (I've tested it several times myself) it triggers if you go from one tile above like I said before (it does so in Fire Red and Leaf Green)

I don't remember seeing this game here. Must have showed up while I was out of the country. This game looks extremely promising and impressive. It is very well done and it looks as if much of the programming was complete prior to premiering it to PC. I hope the demo will be just as outstanding! :)

How soon would "soon" be? As I said before, I have great hopes for this game!
I hope it is going to be this week (I keep saying that for about a month now :dead:). I finshed up the credits and we just want to add some dialoge to the end, so it will not be such crappy ending (for the demo).

I like to say that we just added a "new" pokemon, it is Caterpie, you can now fight and train this Pokemon.

The screen is great, but it has one grammar problem. Instead of saying, "If you don't want that Caterpie evolves," it should be, "If you don't want that Caterpie to evolve."

Jep you can have up to 6(team) + 6(box 1) +6(box 2) +6(box 2) = 24 the same pokemon.
This is because we don't use party members as pokemons, just variables.

and thx PKMN_Sage, I have some grammer/spelling problem. Raccoon is helping me with that a lot. Will change it as soon as possible.

WOW... just WOW! That was one of the best fan demos I have ever played! It really... I mean, REALLY felt like I was playing an official Pokemon game! This demo has made me an even more loyal to this game than before. Seems like every programming you guys have done for this game, so far, has run absolutely smoothly. One little error, the first town is called Lilydale, but in the harbor station, the lady calls it Lilyshell. I would also suggest not mixing R/S and those custom charsets(the fat guy in the blue shirt) with the FR/LG charsets. It's distracting and the look isn't right. The game felt TOO official, meaning that the way it starts off is too similar to the way it starts off in FR/LG. That leads me to believe that the plot will also be very similar to one of the already existing plotlines from the official games. But really, you guys have done a fantastic job. This game really rivals Liquid and Hidden Depths! It is just THAT GOOD!

EDIT- I found a tile mistake in the test maps choice. It's with the base of 3 trees found near the water in Viridian. I also opened up your game in RM2K3 to see if you had encoded it, which you haven't. I would suggest doing so to prevent people from stealing your hard work and using it for their game.

I have got to give you guys credit for hard work, I had no idea this was being made with 2k.. The battle system was fantastic, The closest thing I've ever seen to the original one. You guys must have ripped almost every graphic you could think of for the game, quite a lot of sounds were also there which I couldn't even find.
There were a couple of errors though (as with all games), anyway I saw that once I had healed my bulbasaur with a potion, I couldn't heal any others after that. I had to go to nurse joy.
I can't remember any others at the moment, but I couldn't get past that old man.. I tried everything I could think of...
Great demo guys and I hope ya keep up the great work.

It doesn't work for me either. When I turn it into a zip file, it justs says that its corrupted. When I leave it as .rar, it says Windows cannot play it. Will I actually need RM2K to play this, or will it have all of the RTP and stuff? As this is very odd.

Very nice demo. Although I found a few spelling errors and bugs.

1. When you catch a Pokemon it should say 'Name was added to your party' instead of 'was add to your party'
2. In Orch Town, it displays the Lilydale Town ID box.
3. When you walking on the grass you're missing the grass animation.
4. In the Pidgey summary it should say "and uses it's wings" not his.
5. It says ennemies in the Pidgey summary, the correct spelling would be enemies.
6. In the Ratata summary you put 'he' or 'his' again. It should be it, since it can be both genders and the summaries are usually not referring to the male gender only.
7. Same as the Pidgey and Ratata summary, you referred to it as a male again.
8. When you gain money by winning a battle it says "Gained -amount- money. This is only my personal opinion, but I think you should use ResHack (or another program) to import the PokeDollar symbol and use that instead.
9. In the gym when you try to walk past the Police Man, you misspelled closed in the message. And you forgot the e in 'the'
10. In the house on Route 2, the Policeman is supposed to say 'you got sent' instead of 'you get sent'

I don't know if this is because you might not have finished the CBS completely, but lower level Pokemons seem to attack faster than higher level ones. It doesn't calculate the speed

EDIT- I found a tile mistake in the test maps choice. It's with the base of 3 trees found near the water in Viridian. I also opened up your game in RM2K3 to see if you had encoded it, which you haven't. I would suggest doing so to prevent people from stealing your hard work and using it for their game.

Yeah, we're going to protect it when it's fully finished.
Or, if we make another demo.
But, I think we can trust people just now.

I must admit, this was extremely impressive. Especially for RM2K, which doesn't exactly compare to RM2K3, but you relly did a great job with this. Heres hoping you finish this game to the very end! ;)

Rpg Maker 2003 is so badly translated its pretty much useless.
But, the mp3 function is nice.
And, the Pokemon game lags in it.

lol yeah I thought rm2k3 sucked really bad but once I started using it for a few weeks I couldn't go back lol. I suggest staying with rm2k not that you would change anyway lol! Well I like your game programming side is great but maybe mapping could be next. Anyway good job can't wait to see more.

WOW! All I can say that this game is simply amazing! I thoroughly agree with Kyle_Katarn. I think that, when finished, this game could possible rival Nintendo's creations!

There are only a few minor problems, and that would have to do with grammar. Another thing I noticed was the text. That would be a good thing to fix. It's kind of hard on peoples eyes...

Anyways, I commend you all on your work on this game. Definitely keep up the good work, and don't give up on this project!

As far as I know RPGAdvocate's version has a far better translation than Don Miguel's for RM2k. And Cult of the Mad Cow's version is pretty much the same as the RM2k translation.

The screenshots look good, but the maps seem a bit constricted. The areas to walk across are very narrow so there isn't much room for exploration. Other than that, it's very impressive.

Well, it's just a really small island that has been turned into a city... so there isnt much exploring to do, apart from in the massive cave.

EDIT: Forgot to say, theres a hat shop where you can buy different colours of hats.

I will post pictures of the hat shop soon, where you can choose a range of different hats. Also, you'll be awarded special hats rarely in the game, when you complete a challenge or a minigame. The special hats do cool things that will help you on your quest such as double money recieved at the end of trainer battles.

Hello, sorry for the lack of updates but we were very busy, well I was :P. Anyway. I am working on the hat system.

Here is how it works:
Your hats are recorded onto the Hatcard every time you visit a hat shop you can select a hat that is on you card or you can buy one at the shop. The ones you buy will be added onto the card.

I am working on it so tell me what you think(see attachment).
