View Full Version : Beating the Ubers...?

Here's a challenge:
I play (R/S) with people who always use the same set of pokemon:
Rayquaza
Groudon/Kyogre
Salamence
Latios/Latias
Blaziken/Sceptile/Swampert (depending on which starter they picked)
Jirachi, one of the Regis, or some random pokemon
This gets boring  , and I'd like to shake it up  . The pokemon aren't EV trained, have been caught with random natures, and generally hold attack-boosting items like Charcoal rather than berries. Is there an OU team that can beat these, or are the Ubars just too much, even with random training and natures? Even better, is there a UU team?

first off OU teams can beat that team
UU teams would have a hard time but, if played correctly they could win
The first variation if with sceptile starter
5 pokes can be beaten with ice beam and jirachi can be beat with psych up regice so that makes all 6 handlable by, regice. Except Groudon who would need to be weakend. With the help of salamence or sceptile, regice could take out the whole team (doesn't matter which starter).
The second variation is easily exploited by Jolteon with a petaya berry.

'Quaza/'Mence/Lati@s die to an Ice Beam from any decent special sweeper. It's hard to tank when facing a team full of sweepers, which the ubers tend to be, so build a balanced, effort-trained team, and you should do fine.
n00bs who use nothing but ubers usually don't have a clue what effort training is, so that alone gives you an advantage of usually 40 points in your most important stats.
A Thunderdancing/Sunnybeaming Castform against Kyogre/Groudon would make for a win quite embarassing for your uber-using friend. ;)
The regis are tanks/walls, so a well-placed Leech Seed/Toxic/WoW/anything similar + good tanking skills should take 'em out. Meganium (and many other Grass types) excel for this purpose.

Thanks much!
So, a fast-enough special sweeper with Ice Beam will take care of the Dragons and Sceptile. Would something like Modest Starmie (Psychic, Ice Beam, TBolt,Surf) be able to sweep the whole team (except Swampert and Jirachi/Regis)?
OW! Lose to a Castform? Sounds good. I will try that, have a female Castform, so I can get the nature/stats I need.

Starmie
~Surf
~Ice Beam
~Hidden Power[Grass]
~Thunder Bolt
Make sure to use Surf only when drought isn't there, other wise ice beam is better (if you are going up against Groudon)
Hidden Power grass is for Swampert who would have stopped the starmie.
I you don't want to breed for HP grass just ditch it for recover

There are other Bolt-Beamers too. There's:
Starmie, Lapras, Porygon2, Mew(two), Dragonite, etc. Starmie though is probably your best bet.
...actually, I had my Roselia beat my friend's Groudon.

Or try SunnyBeaming Exeggutor! :D It outspeeds Groudon relatively easily in the Sun and with its massive Sp Atk you would probably OHKO it with Solarbeam seeing as it isnt EV trained.

=P Solar Beam OHKO's on netbattle
But, thats modest with max SpAtk.
But, the general Groundon also has a load of HP Evs some it will probably K.O.

Wouldn't Psychic be better on Starmie than Recover? (I don't have the patience to breed for perfect IVs/HP[Grass] AND nature, not having Emerald). It gets STAB, after all.
Any recommendations on a wall/walls to face Jirachi and the Regis, besides the Blissey/Skarmory? I'd like to avoid them if possible, and don't have access to Meganium (think R/S/LG)

psychic is a waste on starmie, poison and fighting types don't have the move pool variety to beat it and that comes after the fact a STAB'ed surf is generally going to 2HKO them.
Gengar/Machamp/Nothing on that list.
