It really depends where you get them from. If it's from an illegal site..then you better hope you don't get caught, otherwise,if it's legal, and it really is FREE then,I would download it XD

I just download offshore properties (foreign music). US laws don't really apply to things like that, and no where near as severe for being caught.

I mean, the internet was made to share information, why not share music aswell?

If it's mainstream, I'll download the music(they don't need the extra money...). If it's sub-mainstream, or a local band, I'll buy the CD for support.
Also, if I can't find a certain song on a CD(perhaps it was only available in a compilation), then I'll download it.

I download music for free but I don't think it's right.

The internet is for sharing. :D
Nah, don't have a problem with downloading music. Often times I'll download a song by a band that I'm unfamiliar with to see if I like the type of music, then buy the CD if I like the song(s). Alot of the bands I like are hard to get CDs, hence why I download music.

Of course. Mainly because the nearest CD store is a good half-hour drive away from here.
Also, millions of people download music over the internet, so the chances of being caught are so low they aren't worth worrying about. :P

Technically, downloading for free is stealing IMO. I do it though because I can't afford to buy CD's from the shops. Expecially singles which cost about £4, when full albums only cost £10-12.

I don't really listen to music. When I do download something it's usually some obscure song that I wouldn't be able to find by conventional means.

Its fine, as long as you're not breaking copyright laws.
If you're afraid that you'll get caught, just burn your mp3s to a CD, then delete them. That way, you've got disk space in your comp + you can still listen to your fave songs! XD

I do. I don't really have a good reason, except because I do download for free, and if I thought it was wrong, that'd be stupid.

not really. People did work hard to record those songs... they deserve to get at least a little payment for it. :/

I really don't see what the problem is with it, I download songs all the time, and besides, there are so many people doing it, I'd be willing to bet that even some of the people who don't do it have close family that do...

It is OK because all the songs I download are songs I can't by in my contry/town.

Meh... I fall guilty to getting free songs off people... but the last time I did that was like... February? O_o; XP I don't generally approve but I accept it's a majority of net usage and stuff... Neutral ^0^

I don't really have a problem with it. As far as I can see it hasn't hurt the music industry, whatever they claim, and if someone gets sued it's their fault for not protecting their identity. I used to download everything but then I started buying and now I buy all the time, so I never have any money by the middle of the week -_-

God bless Canada! It's perfectly legal up here. The courts deemed it not differently than photocopying a page from a book (although I find photcopiers way more difficult to use).
Nope, I see nothing wrong with it. Download three full CDs just two days ago in fact. ^^;

Photocopying... we have laws on photocopying here too. ^^; XD

I don't think there's anything wrong with it personally, I mean, the majority of people who do tend to download music go and buy the CDs as well, they just don't tend to realize it....XD
ANyways, though I have no objection to it, my family does...XD
So I download songs on my neighbors PC and burn CDs there....XDD

I think it's ok to get free music, it's paying for it that I don't like. I'm still trying to find a site to where I can get free music without having to pay a signing up fee. If anyone knows a site where I can get FREE music with NO charges, plase PM me a link to the site, thanks.

I say it's fine to download songs. Hell, I have...okay I lost count but it's a lot :P
It's okay, I mean some bands or songs are quite hard to obtain so it's easier to just simply download it.

music.download.com (it's not my site so it's not really advertising, and I am providing a link to where people can greatly benefit from [and possibly stop downloading commercial music illegally]) has some mainstream bands available for download, so you should check that out (also they have thousands of other artists and songs available as well).
Of course its okay what do people have against it? Geez..
It's a thing called having morals, and no it's not ok. Being a nineteen year old, you should be able to figure that out why on your own.

I think it is OK if you read the information from the page you are downloading it. There, it should say it is legal. If it doesn't, then DON'T DO IT, you could be in serious trouble. The place where I used to download songs said it was 100% legal so I don't have any problems XP.

They do have sites that provide samples to the tracks of CDs, you know?
