Well, I don't know if this is allowed, but my school just went through something that signaled to me that, as kids, we have no real rights. Here are some petitions and letters explaining what happened. If you would like your username on the petition just PM me. The more signatures, the more likely it is for this to go through!!!
We, the class of Mr. L, fifth period, and others, state that we should all have the first Amendment, which states:
“…make no law…abridging the freedom of speech…”
We feel you have broken this when you gave detention to those who signed the petition against Mrs. H. Also, there is enclosed an account of what went through one of our minds, and possibly others. We have also enclosed signatures of those who feel that you’ve offended this Amendment. Remember this:
This act against freedom of speech
Will not be kept secret.
Thank you and sincerely,
Mr. L’s Fifth Period Class

(Account of what went through SelGirl’s mind after hearing anyone who signed the petition would have lunch detention.)
I stormed out. My mind raced around one thing. I don’t remember my exact words or thoughts, but here is what I believe happened…
“This, this is…” I stammered.
*words removed for courtesy* I thought.
“*words removed for courtesy*!” I yelled when L had left. I forcefully pushed open the door and ran to catch up to R and C.
“It is so…wrong!” I screamed, my anger boiling. R and C kept going on, oblivious to what I said. I threw open the door and put my bags down. I stomped onto the stage and tried to talk to Ms. S.
“Ms. S.…” I began, but she just pushed past.
“This is a bunch of…well, it sure is annoying,” I murmured under my breath.
That is what happened to me. Just in case you want to know, I am the one who has written the petition that is going out.
Sincerely,
*parental block*
To my friend M. and anyone else wishing to participate in the distributing of the petition:
If you need more things for people to sign just ask. Here are some things you should say to those that you are trying to get to sign the petition:
(To grab attention)
Hey, will you sign a petition saying that we should have free speech?
(Once you have their attention)
A couple of kids in Mr. L. class signed a petition stating that they did not want Mrs. H. in their class as a sub anymore, because she had made very unfair rules. For this, they have lunch detention, and if the don’t show up they get it for the rest of the year! I know that isn’t long, but still, they have lunch detention for saying what they thought!
We have now started a petition going against this. If you also are opposed to what happened please sign the petition.
(If they sign)
Thank you so much!
(If they do not sign)
Okay then!
Sincerely,
Sel
Natsuki

You know what the sad part is though? As minors, you aren't protected under the first amendment. Only US citizens are protected, and until you're of legal age to vote, you aren't considered a US citizen. Your opinions and views count for squat when adults don't want to hear them. What you need to do is appeal to your parents and any friends you have who are adults for help. Political pressure from kids isn't nearly as effective as you might think. What you have is a good idea, and I think you guys have definitely been treated unfairly, and have a good case in your favor. But unfortunately for you, a classroom is a totalitarian dictatorship, where the teacher is the dictator. Whether that teacher is a sub or not, you are expected to obey - unless, that is, they do something or ask you to do something illegal. What your sub did wasn't illegal; it was just rude and obnoxious. That's why you need to gain the support of your parents to put pressure on the school. Alerting the media might help too. :) But whatever you do, don't resort to violent means, and don't do anything against the law or the rules in your households. Good luck with your cause!

The sad thing is that sometimes minors speak more truth and with more sense than a 40 year old man in the White House
Grown ups see minors as mindless, dumb little kids who do not know anything and to them they are right and minors are wrong.
You ask a 12 year old what they think about endangered species or pollution even war and you'll see some of them will answer in ways a grown up wouldn't believe.
Unfortunately just because minors have been seen as little mindless kids they get no freedom. So this kind of stuff is often seen. But honestly, I think it is wrong to do this sort of thing just because they are minors. Minors, old, teens, adults, we all have the right to be heard and not pushed aside like some mindless zombie.

Well, with more rights often comes more responsibility, and sometimes it's unfair to expect younger kids to shoulder too much responsibility. Kids shouldn't have to worry about all the dull, depressing things some adults have to deal with; they should be able to spend more time being kids and having fun! :D That doesn't mean that their opinions shouldn't count for anything, though. I always think that anytime someone offers kids a venue for voicing their opinions it's a good idea. Even though a lot of kids aren't as educated about the more serious topics we deal with, they also aren't as jaded or cynical about them either. Thats why I think that, in a lot of cases, kids can offer a more objective, clear view of things. Kids may be young, and they may be inexperienced, but they're people too, and they have minds of their own. *Gets off her high horse again* Ah... I didn't intend to turn this into a preaching session. You guys get the idea. :P

Kids are kids, if you really want to have rights, you’re going to have to take everything else that comes with it. Bills, taxes, loans, etc. technically…children’s views don’t count for jack. Life experiences, hardships, that sort of thing is what merits real rights. You have to earn it, can’t just expect to get a free ride and have all the rights and not have to work for it. Still, there are a very few number of adults that can see things clearly, apparently being scarred by the world is enough to ruin their outlook on anything basically.
Like I said, children are children, enjoy being one while you can. What may seem unfair to you is often just normality to most people, it all comes down to experience, which is what most children don’t have. Not just children, there are a lot of adults who are blind to real problems and are quick to blame things on one another, and they think age means something. A thirteen year old can have more experience than a twenty year old who has been sheltered all his life. Remember there is free speach, but not if it goes against the rights that other people hold as well. Annnnd, I’ll shut up now.

Bunny is terribly right. ;-;
Ummm... teachers don't really like petitions against themselves.
My Year 6 class once signed a petition years ago to get a teacher to let the kids do the yearbook instead of getting parents to do it, because we wanted it to be OUR yearbook.
Teacher: Don't have time. *throws in wastebin*
--;;;;
They consider it rude and offensive actually. ^^

ok...for one thing, this petition format isn't exactly right XD
We, the class of Mr. L, fifth period, and others, state that we should all have the first Amendment, which states:
“…make no law…abridging the freedom of speech…”
ok first: grammar issues there perhaps "we should all be under the protection of the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights" or something along those lines.
2. you have to state the entire amendment or it doesn't work out that well...
We feel you have broken this when you gave detention to those who signed the petition against Mrs. H.
3. you have to explain the situation of this petition against Mrs. H. You can't just assume everyone knows what happened. Assumption is a petition's worst enemy. just enclosing the event isn't enough XP. also, you have to fill out the entire name of the one you are petitioning against.
ya grammar problems...i suggest proofreading this before actually submitting it...

Heh, so you signed a petition against a teacher? Yeah...that's really offensive and inconsiderate, especially when no one considers all the BS a teacher has to go through every single day. $25,000 a year, they have to buy some of their own supplies, they get limited working rights....and yet they still do the job because they love teaching and kids. How would you feel if you tortured yourself everyday to do what you love, and you find a little snot conspiraing a hate-petition behind your back?
I think "Mr. L" was right in what he did...Maybe once your a lil older you'll be able to understand
my teachers are aware of how mature i amexample we had to write what we would do if we were president when other people said i would eat pizza make a law that there was no shcool i said i lower taxes medical bills blah blah blah i am not educated on those things now but i do realize they are important issues adults some of them just voted for who they voted because they were near his home town were bush lived he got votes around that area were kerry lived he got votes
Yes...your grammar usage tells me how mature you are >_>...but hey, your 9 years old, enjoy yourself now without worrying how mature or immature you are ;)
The sad thing is that sometimes minors speak more truth and with more sense than a 40 year old man in the White House
Not really...lots of them woulda gone with War anyway, seeing as they're minors, and don't have experience. And as anyone knows, you need experience to have wisdom.
Grown ups see minors as mindless, dumb little kids who do not know anything and to them they are right and minors are wrong.
Um...what grown ups do you hang out with O_o? You do realize that every grown up on the planet has *gasp* been a minor before as well. They know what we think and how we feel, so for the most part, they're right and we're wrong. Note I said for the MOST part, grown ups can still be wrong. And as anyone knows, you need experience to have wisdom.
You ask a 12 year old what they think about endangered species or pollution even war and you'll see some of them will answer in ways a grown up wouldn't believe.
*confused* huh? Like what... :dead:

Wow...you sound pessimistic...
I think everyone should be at least heard yes...but like it or not, really little kids just don't know enough about life to make the right choices like those with experience (grown ups) do...And as anyone knows, you need experience to have wisdom. (note that I said that 3 times cause it's impooorrrant)
