View Full Version : Tough Dogs?

Having spent three days chasing Legendary Dogs about Johto, I wondered how other people felt about them. Is it my imagination, or is the last of the trio more difficult to catch? Or is Entei harder to catch than Raikou? Or vice versa? I found and caught Raikou within an hour of starting the hunt: Entei took me three days, and i would still be chasing him if i hadn't sacrificed my Master Ball.
Note I haven't included Suicune because I've been playing Crystal, where he's more or less given to you on a silver platter. But he's free running in G/S and I wondered if the above rules also applied to him.
Opinions and comments are more than welcome!

There all kinda hard to catch since they run away. They weren't hard for me cause I used the duplication trick for the Master Balls. But I have to say, Suicune was a B**** in Crystal.

Duplicating Master balls? I've never come across that before: how is it done?
OK, so it's probably a very common trick, but don't forget, there aren't many pokemon game players in my age range (yes, my stated age is correct!) It isn't as if I've had many folk to talk to about playing pokemon! :bandit:

They are all as hard, they all run away as quick as possible, so they are all hard.

Do you know how to clone your pokemon? If so, just give the pokemon the item you want two of and do the duplicating thing and you have two, one on your normal pokemon and one on the cloned one. :P
Well, for some reason, everytime I start a new game and get to the catching state, Raikou is always the first one that I find so for me... that would be the easier one seeing as I use my masterball... and suicune ends up being the last one I find. So, I would say suicune even thought I only say that because it eluded me for so much time. :P

All of them were tough. I had to spend over 14 hours just catching the second one, and nearly 22 hours catching the third. Even with the first one only taking 10 hours, they were all hard.

I actually didn't find the dogs all that tough to catch. I brought a Lv. 40 Haunter with Hypnosis and Mean Look(with maxed out Speed by loading it with Carbos.) as well as a Lv. 57 Scyther with False Swipe in my party to go Dog Hunting. (Pretty basic strategy) Caught Entei and Suicune on the first day of my hunt. Raikou was the toughest since I didn't even see it until day 8.

Yes, I go after the dogs with a gastley or haunter, too. Like Iron Mankey, I make sure they have mean look, and hypnosis, and I load them up with carbos so they're a little faster that the Dogs, but never take them over lvl40 ( the reason for this will become clear later). That increases the chance of striking first, as does the Quick Claw. I also employ the Stalking Tactic. Trade over the three from another version of G/S/C, then back, which registers them in your pokedex, and allows you to see where their nest is. Patrol around, then go to an area where there is a small amount of grass, and look at your pokedex. Eventually a Dog will show up in the area your staking out. Save your game, put your hunting pokemon in the top spot, and activate a max repel. Then go into the grass. Go through it until the dog is forced out into the open: this is why you mustn't take the hunter over lvl40. If it has a higher level than the Dog, the Dog will not turn up.
The above tactic also works on the Lati@s: I've more about that in the relevant forum.
Iron Mankey has also confirmed something else: that whilst it took him only a day to find the second Dog, getting hold of the third was much harder.
I was more interested in the tracking/hunting than in the catching. Perhaps I made the poll choices too broad? After all, I wanted to know whether it was merely the order in which the Dogs got caught that determined how long you chased them, or if one particular Dog was more evasive than the others. So far, it seems that the last Dog you go for is the hardest to run down.
Oh, BTW, how do you clone pokemon?

My best Dog is Raikou because i found it 3 wild Pokemon battles aftar Suicune!! Not bad considering my party and my box where FULL!! so i had to wait about 3 weeks later to catch it and this time i had a brand new box!!!

In G/S/C, I always use the cloning thing to get more master balls to catch the legendaries. None of them are hard to catch. What is hard is finding them.

Hey, i found Raikou (my first dog) before I beat the ecruteak gym. I was training my pokemon normally when Raikou came out. I cathed it then. It was about two hours after releasing them.
