I wasn't sure where to put this. In other chat, or here. Sorry if it's in the wrong place.

Just what it says. I need to talk about this. 4-Kids Dubbing is really starting to get out of hand. I mean, you can understand why they change the episode tittles, character names, and Anime tittles, but the rest...? If you've ever seen an original Japanese Dub, or a Sub, (most people would have seen at least one), then you'll know exactly what I mean. Even if you've only read about original Japanese creations, then you'll still probably know what 4-Kids does to them.

Okay. Yeah, it says; "4-Kids". As in, for kids. They can't do too much. But most Animes 4-Kids Dub are PG. PG allows a lot more than they keep in. It allows a much higher violence level than they do, it allows low-level course language, and mature themes. There is the fact that they are ALWAYS replacing "d*mn" with "darn", "hell" with "heck", "god" with "gosh", "sh*t" with "shoot", and so on. They don't say these very often, so the PG WOULD allow them to leave in the ordinal words.

A very good example is here. (For non-bashing reasons, I won't name the Anime it was off. It's the Dubbers fault, not the creators):

"I sent those traitors straight to heck!"

... ... ... ??? Where the hell is heck, may I ask? It makes no sense to replace "hell" with "heck" under normal circumstances, but in this case... It is just ridicules.

Violence: A PG allows violence. Scrapes, cuts, bleeding, detached limbs, dead bodies, even people dying to a certain level. 4-Kids leaves in some scrapes and cuts, but, trust me, they take A LOT of them out, too. Detached limbs they usually screw with (take some of the blood and swelling out), dead bodies, the same thing. And, killing. They usually cut that bit out. If they have to leave it in, they'll try to make it as non-violent as possible. Sometimes you'll find the morons changing the whole storyline just to avoid a bit of blood-shed.

A lot of d*cks at your school, or where ever probably say to you (if they know you like Anime), "why do you like Chinese shows (retards don't know what they're talking about there), they're (here comes the magic word...) g*y!" Maybe they wouldn't think they were so "g*y" if 4-Kids hadn't taken out all the GOOD bits!

Next is the mature themes they take out. Rokumon Tengai Mon Colle Knight is a good example. Although not many people have heard of it. In the Japanese version, Count Collection (one of the bad guys), is a homosexual wacko. That is humor. In the Dub, he's a time traveler from the 16th century. That is crap. See the difference between humor and crap?

Also some things that people say in Anime are edited. Yu-gi-oh is a very good example of that. Yami Bakura (Ore-sama)'s Destiny Board spells out the word "death" in the JP version. In the US version, it spells out "final". When he beats Bonz (Ghost Kotsuzuka), Zygor, and Sid and traps them in the Shadow Realm he says in the JP version, he says; "you will linger in hell forever!", in the US version, he says; "you will remain here until I choose to let you out." ... ???

PGs also allow a tiny bit of sexual scenes. I've seen no worse than breasts or bums shown in ordinal Japanese versions, but the US will always take that out.

Here are some very good picture examples of Yu-gi-oh and all the changes 4-Kids make. Thanks to http://www.ratandfox.net/ for the pictures.

Does anyone else feel the same way I do about this?

Censorship sucks, and with these kinds of companies, their marketing departments are usually responsible for the changes, because they think it can make them more money if they remove anything that might draw a complaint.

right place...

First of all, WTF is an original Japanese Dub? i prefer the term Raw XP
im betting you think 4kids butchers everything they get their hands on. one of the few reasons for this is the time span for commercials. Japanese only have 1 commercial break in the middle with 5 min. break. America usually has 2 commercials, each about 3-5 min.

Okay. Yeah, it says; "4-Kids". As in, for kids. They can't do too much. But most Animes 4-Kids Dub are PG. PG allows a lot more than they keep in. Maybe you dont get the term they have for "kids" perhaps you believe only our age group counts as "kids". many kids that watch 4kids shows are still around 4-10 years old and what they watch is monitered by their parents. according to the traditional household, stuff like ****, ****, and hell are still in the "bad words" section, i don't believe i've heard gosh very often either XD.
although the heck thing is pretty stupid XD

Violence: A PG allows violence. also, note that the japanese audience is used to a different lifestyle than those in the US. They are more exposed to violence.
sure some PG stuff has blood and all that stuff, however that pretty much only applies to the real-life movies, not the cartoons, if there is, its late night on CN.
Death is a pretty serious topic among little kids. If you had any relatives die when you were young, you were probably sobbing.

A lot of d*cks at your school, or where ever probably say to you (if they know you like Anime), "why do you like Chinese shows (retards don't know what they're talking about there), they're (here comes the magic word...) g*y!" Maybe they wouldn't think they were so "g*y" if 4-Kids hadn't taken out all the GOOD bits!

ok...all people who know about anime know Anime is japanese...no one ever says they're chinese...like i say, 4kids has reasons for taking out all the blood and gore that you like so much, most the shows target 4-10 year olds

Next is the mature themes they take out. Rokumon Tengai Mon Colle Knight is a good example. Although not many people have heard of it. its targeted at KIDS not TEENAGERS so they keep that stuff edited since gay love isn't exactly a kid's topic

Also some things that people say in Anime are edited. Yu-gi-oh is a very good example of that. Yami Bakura (Ore-sama)'s Destiny Board spells out the word "death" in the JP version. its also like that in the card game. like i say, death can be a serious topic for young kids, which it's targeted at.
reason he says "linger in hell forever" is because the sennen(millenium) items don't have the shadow realm effects in the raw/sub they just kill them and send em to hell, cause of the egypt and human sacrificing thing (death).

PGs also allow a tiny bit of sexual scenes. I've seen no worse than breasts or bums shown in ordinal Japanese versions, but the US will always take that out.

like i said, japanese kids are used to different stuff than american kids --;

If you don't like the dub's rid of the violence and sexual scenes you like so much, go get the uncut DVDs. that's why they make them.

either way, we already have a 4kids thread so
its somewhere on the last page since PC is laggin really badly for me right now
