Basically, the truck serves about the same purpose as a piece of wall. If I recall correctly, it was left in by the programmers for no apparent reason. (Hey, it's not like they actually thought anyone would go looking over there. After all, you need Surf to get to it, and the instant a player steps off the boat, it departs. And let's face it. It takes a bit of effort to actually lose to the trainers onboard that ship.)

In R/B/Y, the programmers left it in. And no, you don't get Mew... all those are just rumors.

you're supposed to have somebody trade you a pokemon with cut so you don't have to go on the ship at all.

I still remember all the rumors for that thing. A couple are up on my site in my Rumor Dedication.
Yeah, the truck is basicly an easter egg of something that might have been planned for later on. Heck you can find keys in the Game Corner, which may actually belong to the truck. Who knows. With the minds of programmers... I'll stop right there.

A joke from someone who started that rumour. That may be a disappointment though, but there is one trick from a website I tried-and it worked!
First try to go to the ship. There should be a sailor stopping you. Then, quickly go to the right and save, then restart the game. After that, surf on the water. You should realise that you are surfing on the sailor instead. This way you can go to the ship anytime.

I'm thinking they had plans for it, but never finished them...prehaps it was there just to make us think up threories...I've also found the keys...I also heard they put it in FR?LG aswell

Probably the programmers just wanted to tease the players.
I tried it out a long time ago and I was very disappointed when I found out that it doesn't work :/

Tch. Decorative purposes ONLY! End of story!
Well they added a Lava Cookie on tha ground somewhere in that area(south, down the dock's bridge) in FR/LG but that place including its truck do nothing at all!

In the English games the truck serves no event purose; in the original game in Japan (Pocket-Monsters Green Version) if you had completely beaten the game (all 150 pkmn & e4) you could surf over to the truck and use Strength with all the Pokemon in your party. When you did so, you would see the truck move forward once. Afterward, you would see a lapras-like thing (surfing) come to the land you are at. He will then give you Mew.
Nintendo of America evidentally wanted Mew to be special, and only obtainable in Nintendo events.
THEY DID LEAVE THE TRUCK FOR A REASON! As you may have encountered throughout your Red or Blue version(s), there have been several sprite malfunctions. Most commonly in caves or on water: If you are to even to step near these certain areas and save the game or even open the menu, your sprite will be stuck and unable to move. The area right above where the truck is is one of those spots. Even in the Japanese Green version, once you pushed it aside and walked up, if you were to save the game or open the menu, when you continued your sprite would be unable to move.
~I know this because I downloaded the 40% translated ROM, It's messed up because Pokemon names are spelled with smiley faces, hearts, other designs, and glitch symbols.~

The Guy above me is completly %100 wrong to the extreme.
Now the only way to get Mew in other contries apart from Japan was to go to an event that was somewhere around ten years ago.
But in Japan if got all 150 pokemon you talk to the Game desinger who gives you the Certicicate he will give you the me.
THEY ARE THE ONLY WAYS TO GET HIM.

That's not the only way to get Mew.
Try using the Mew glitch, Happy Dude.
But about the truck.........I surfed over the S.S Anne guard and inspected the truck.
It's just.......a useless bunch of pixels.
However, I've never heard of keys to the truck in the game corner. I'll try that out;maybe the truck is used to run over Gary! (I'm seriously hoping that's what it's for)

But, seriously, someone will probably find the mystery of the truck. I mean, come on, Glitch City, the Mew trick, MissingNo. and 'M.........there has to be a purpose for it.

You can see it, just go to the tile diagonaly from the guard, step over, immediatly press start, and save the game. Turn it off then back on. DON'T MOVE! Go to your pokemon and use surf. You will surf right through the guard!

Here's a poser: has anybody tried the keys you find in the Game Corner on the truck?
Sapphire Skitty

I went to the truck and back to the keys, then to the truck again. But nothing happened. Maybe you need a special pokemon...........Meowth, perhaps? It has the ability Pickup in FR/LG. And in the dex it says that Meowth likes shiny things.

See, people, this is probably the same person that said "The old man in viridian is useless."
It must have some purpose, I don't see that truck all over the game y'know.
Maybe there are keys to it somewhere else............

Tch. I never said that. Lol, I actually discovered tha Mew glitch all by myself, but meh, some ppl just think they can guess what's in other ppl's heads, oh an' btw I'm a great bug-seeker/glitch-exploiter myself, but I like ta make tha difference between what actually works an' what doesn't.
No, really, y'ain't gonna find anything there unless someone edits tha game an' puts Mew there or uses ALOT of gameshark codes ta edit the in-game memory so much as ta write an entire script, which would consist of well over 10,1000 gameshark codes which tha device doesn't even support that many anyways. Lol, I've got some pkmn game editors an' I can tell ya I was curious myself so I looked at tha truck in both the old an' tha new pkmn versions, but there ain't no script involvin' Mew in there or any script at all for that matter, lol, the only scripts in there are for entry, exit, the S.S. Anne, an' a Lava Cookie in tha south on FR/LG. -_-

Meh, guess you're right.
I don't have a gamshark.....so my game is basicly boring. (Except for the fact that my HoF looks like Gary trashed it. And I have a Mew)
I'm just wondering what purpose that truck has.
I just hope that I can find another cool glitch myself, but it might take a while.
Well, I'm leaving this thread, let me know if y'all find anything useful.

Like I said in my last message, I have a skrewed up version of Green version with smileys-n-glitchy symbols. The hacker who traslated it must have been really good with game programing because the truck tile guy gave me a Mew (Myuu). Well, I'm not sure: I just know he DID surf over to where I was and said something like {smileyface:heart:?:glitchy:m:JapaneseSymbol:?>:glitchy}; when I went to my PC, mew was in there. I just figure that's how it happened. I never used any game enhacers so how else could've it happened?

I agree with Da Fool!
I believe in giltches but I also believe that they're really made! Not just simple pieces of information or tileset. I believe the programmers of the games really developted the giltches but maintain them with a certain level of giltchness!
I hope I made myself clear...

I like hearing about the truck. I think it's a little easter egg and doesn't do anything (I think that the keys are part of the same easter egg). Maybe they planned on doing something with the truck and the keys but decided to not use them and just left them in for fun. I don't think you can use them in anyway, because I think many people have hacked into the game and saw the programming, and if there was a use for them, I think the hackers would have found it already. It would be cool to find out after all these years, that is doeas actually serve a purpose other than decoration.

In all my years of playing Blue, I have never ever come across a truck. Is it even real?
Marine1988
July 15th, 2005, 05:54 PM
Yes, it's by the S.S. Anne. To see it, you need to have a friend trade you a Pokemon with Cut so you don't have to go on the S.S. Anne. Then once you learn Surf, come back and go to the boat (but don't go on board), surf to the right and there should be a truck.

It is in fact a programing Easter Egg. The creators of Pokemon R/B/Y left it in there because they had no real use for it in the game. Easter eggs are not actually Easter Eggs Xp... usually... There are little tidbits left in movies and games as a memento, bug, reference, etc... Easter eggs usually serve no purpose what-so-ever except for 'Hey! Look! I found an Easter Egg." Do note that Pokemon is not the only game that has done this. Many games have 'Lost bytes' that were never used in the actual game, but kept in the origional programming of the game. For example Super Mario World. There were hundreds of Total levels (levels being not just a stage, but when you appear in a new area for entering a door or a pipe, etc. ) however, only a few hundred made it in. This never left the cutting room floor, but if you use a Hex-Editor and Tiler on a ROM, you can see plain-as-day that the images for these do exsist.
Need proof? Sorry can't help you myself for the 'legal reasons' but if you look for a program called 'Lunar Magic' and have an english version Super Mario World ROM, you can use Lunar Magic to edit the levels and the overworld map. This INCLUDES the levels that never made it into the game. (Mostly just levels that say 'TEST' made out of Normal Blocks, and jumping off the end of the stage would cause you to return to the overworld map.)

eeggs.com has tons of cool easter eegs. I like reading about them, and I think it would be cool to find more in other Pokemon games.
