i just saw paranoia agant for my first time last night...wow...that was kinda sad, and disturbing. But I liked it, and I will watch it, but one thing, I want to know more about it before I see it again, so could anyone tell me?

This show is incredible...probably one of the best ever on Adult Swim. Shounen Bat is one of the more interesting characters I've seen on a show, and I like the premise of each episode profiling a character's descent into paranoia and eventual bludgeoning by Lil' Slugger's bat.

And I really like the beginning...so much laughing o_o;

Ahh! Paranoia Agent... The first Anime Horror series to get onto Adult Swim. The people laughing at the beginning are supposed to symbolize people that are afraid of 'Lil Slugger' (groan).

Anyway, I believe that the show is supposed to be based off a Japanese lore about a person or spirit that attacks really depressed people, but I'm not 100 percent sure. However, the dub seems to be pretty accurate so far, compared to the subtitle.

Sorairo
June 5th, 2005, 05:52 PM
yea, i thought at first he was a person who attacked people who deserved it. lil slugger did kinda look like Ichi* last night. If you change the hair, Ichi would probibly be a REAL suspect.

June 5th, 2005, 05:54 PM
I hope you don't mind, but I've changed the title so that it reads "Paranoia Agent" instead of "Paranoid Agent" Hehe... From what I've heard of it, it does seem to be intriguing, but until the Daily Mail retract their anime-bashing statements, I don't think it'll be coming ot UK shores very soon.

Chairman Kaga
June 5th, 2005, 05:56 PM
Actually, I always thought Lil' Slugger looked like a short Mexican man o_o; But Ichi did bear a resemblance, what with the golden roller blades and all. I loved how last night's episode unfolded, with him going from hero to zero at the hands of the suspicious student body. His final descent into madness was illustrated wonderfully...it was very convincing.

Sorairo
June 5th, 2005, 06:04 PM
uh...i changed the name too...o.0...oh well. But I dont get who took those pics of Ichi, and fat dude! Do they leave you so you dont know whats going on alot in this show?

Chairman Kaga
June 5th, 2005, 06:08 PM
I was under the impression that a security camera at the school caught the fight and that the pictures were somehow released o_o;

They really made it ambiguous to whether fat dude (I can't remember his name either XP) had anything to do with the rumors and the smear campaign throughout the episode x_x

Rikki Tikki Tavi

I dont think it was the school cameras cause if the school saw it, they would like...punish Ichi, not send it to all the cell phones! Unless my sorces are correct, and schools are plotting demise on kids everywhere...nevermind.

Does the story from that episode continue or do they not say anything about that ichi kid after?

Sorairo
June 5th, 2005, 10:44 PM
i think that youll hear about him later, cause they were talking about the first victum, and well...yeah, i think youll hear about him again. He was also thought to be the slugger, and they will have to notice that that theory is wrong!

I had assumed that someone (either Shounen Bat or the fat kid) might have gotten a hold of the film before the school could, but it could have been filmed by anyone and from anywhere. It was high above them so I suppose I didn't think a human would be on the roof, but I'm probably wrong.

Whoever did it has a pretty good cell phone, though, to be able to email it to every child in the student body at once o_o;

June 6th, 2005, 02:40 PM
yeah, and if pig boy did do it, then how did he know to put the camera there? When he went there, he didnt know it was about the elections, cause he was happy in the begining...I first thought it was lil' slugger, and I still do.

Chairman Kaga
June 6th, 2005, 02:58 PM
I never said that it was definitely Ushii (I believe that's pig boy's name, and I'm not confusing him with Uichii), just that it could have been anyone and that it was probably Shounen Bat =/

See, in the first episode, as detailed as it was, you don't get enough information. Okay, this sixth grader is practically going phsyco from losing his title. And the only one he has to bully is pig boy, Of whom Uichii thinks is the one who started this. (In the classroom scene, with everyone's cell phones, go get the idea that either pig boy is behind all this or he's trying to defen Uichii.) (Although the way pig boy talked kinda disturbed me, it sounded like he was lying. Either that, or a bad voice actor.) With only seeing Lil Slugger twice in the whole show, you know it's not Uichii or pig boy, but it could be anybody. (They had a piece about this in Newtype Magazine that might help.)

I saw it last night, and the more I see it, the more I think lil Slugger is helping ppl(Ive only seem 2 eps.). Like how Ichi was all disturbed, then when he woke up in the hospital, he was fine, and his tutor person(Whats her face...) didnt get those calls anymore...That one was wierd.

Ninja
June 12th, 2005, 02:10 PM
I've seen 3 episodes so far. The one with the girl animator for that one company who got hit, then they were suspicious if any kids did it. Then I saw the Ichi one. Then the episode about his tutor. They all tied together wonderfuly. Even though I saw them once a week. I might have been lucky. Anyway this is probably one of the most interesting animes on Adult Swim.

EDIT:
Ahh! Paranoia Agent... The first Anime Horror series to get onto Adult Swim.

I don't think it's considered an anime horror. Nothing scary yet.

The people laughing at the beginning are supposed to symbolize people that are afraid of 'Lil Slugger' (groan).

I don't think that's it either. I'm thinking it symbolizes how relieved they feel when they're the victim. Most of the people who got hit by Slugger are in a tight situation at the begining, and Slugger comes around to get them out their situation.

edit X2: Yeah, looking more into it, i'm thinking Slugger is helping them out. If you notice all the vitims have a kind of mental problem deal. Slugger hits them with the bat, and they're cured.

Too bad it's only 13 episodes.

Sorairo

did it end last night? they said they caught lil slugger, but Im not so sure they did tho. To think they would make that statement standout a bit more!

Chairman Kaga
June 12th, 2005, 07:19 PM
I have this feeling that they went ahead and arrested Ichi because a second person associated with him was slugged, even though he said he had been exonerated in this past episode.

This episode was...erm...graphic o_o; I actually kept flipping it off the channel for seconds at a time, because as good as a show as it is, I never feel like seeing stuff like that. I had already had enough from all the risqué stuff at the end of Samurai Champloo right before this =p

OMG, when was this thread made. I love that show. Especially Little Slugger. Did any of you watch the one on Saturday?

It's sad indeed, I end up feeling sorry for the people at the anime. The guy with the big nose, the girl who has personalities problems, the popular boy who graves for attention, and the husky kid with red cheeks, and the weird face guy. They end up getting bat by Lil' Slugger and they end up being relief. O.O

The losers who run adult swim moved Paranoia Agent to 1 AM and overall screwed up the entire saturday schedule:

11: Futurama
11.5: Samurai Champloo
12: Inuyasha
12.5: S-CRY-Ed
1: Paranoia Agent
1.5: FLCL

They said they're punishing action fans for low ratings =/ I've always hated the bump people. They're such arrogant potheads, they really ruin adult swim for me.

Now that's so unfair just because they don't have greater ratings, so immature. They stoop to a new low, man.

The bump people really are arrogant, immature, marijuana-addicted losers, trying to oversaturate their schedules with low-quality programming in order to punish action fans for perceived low ratings. You wanna know what I think? They should ditch all of their "comedy" programs (except for Family Guy, Robot Chicken, and Aqua Teen Hunger Force; they're the only quality comedy programs) and replace it all with anime. Less Tom Goes to the Mayor, more Paranoia Agent and S-CRY-ed!

Chairman Kaga

I've always said that the Neilsen system is fatally flawed; a random sampling of a minute fraction of households has absolutely no way to accurately provide the opinion of the whole. I've always known that the bump people are in this solely for money and despise the very anime they show. I mean, they refered to the anime fans as "action sl*ts" (don't know if that word's allowed here) and in a previous bump they said that the mission statement of adult swim is "wh*re this mother out" =/ Not only are they annoying half the time, I actually get personally offended by them sometimes, and now they do this because things didn't go their way. I'm not sure they understand that a) they're up against Mad TV and Saturday Night Live during the programs where most people are awake, b) it's summertime and many people are either on vacation or elsewhere, and c) many people like to videotape the later shows. I stay up for Inuyasha, Samurai Champloo, and Paranoia Agent, but I record S-CRY-Ed because I like to be awake for Church in the morning. They're morons, but apparently they have friends in high places in Turner Broadcasting. I wish they would just disappear =/

If I could somehow sic Lil' Slugger on them, I would o_o; Though they're absolutely unworthy of being brutalized by a legend such as he, it would at least get those stoners off the air for good.

I would rather have Maromi do all the bumps.

Guess what, folks??

Saturday is still all-anime. PA is still at 12:00 AM.

Yes, Adult Swim pulled a joke on it's anime fans with a phoney schedule.

But, on topic...

Wow, Lil' Slugger got caught last episode!! I wonder what'll happen this episode...

Chairman Kaga
June 24th, 2005, 03:20 PM
Actually, I checked the adult swim announcement board (filthy forums...full of potheads like the bump people. I've never posted there once =/) and they haven't said anything, so the new schedule is still in effect.

SBaby
June 25th, 2005, 02:38 AM
Then why is Futurama going to be on at 11 pm (10 Central) tomorrow?

Ok as for Paranoia Agent, you won't learn what the actual story is supposed to be about until about halfway into the series. Once you see the scene where they question Lil' Slugger, it'll make a whole lot more sense. (Given what it's about, I've deduced that M. Night must've written part of the storyline...)

What...the...*Insert a bunch of swear words here*

I can't beleive they would be so lazy as to not even change their schedule!!

Sorry, just that....this means that PA WILL be on at 1:00AM...

the funny thing is, someone on another place I visit wanted to what would've been this week's episode of trigun.xD

Chairman Kaga
June 26th, 2005, 10:08 PM
Eh, it seems [as] has done in Trigun for good...it doesn't air at all now x_x I would have rather them taken off FLCL and spared Trigun. Fooly Cooly creeps me out like no other anime ever has >_<

But did anyone see last night's episode? It was AMAZING. Absolutely, positively great.

Gohma must be defeated!!!!!

Eh, you're forgetting two things:

#1: FLCL only comes on once a year, and is only six episodes long. So, yes, after next week, another show will replace it.

#2: FLCL SO PWNZ TRIGUN!!!!xD

Also, Sbaby, I'm assuming you were being sarcastic, because PA last night wasn't scary in any sense.

But yes...

GOHMA MUST BE DEFEATED!!

And is it just me, or does that one guy(I'm not good at remembering the names in PA. The one from the first episode who got hit. AKA the frog.xD) have a different VO?? I don't mean the frog form, I mean the actual guy.xD

First of all, M. Night's work isn't always scary. If you've seen Unbreakable, you'd know what I mean. But I never said it would be scary anyway, just that you'd get more of what the story was about. It's one of those deals where you don't really know what it's supposed to be about until halfway through the show.

(It's like Independence Day and War of the Worlds, reeeally suspenseful until you see who they're actually dealing with...)
