View Full Version : Pokémon sites...down?!

Well, i've noticed that lots of pokémon sites have been recently going down... almost at the same time. Most of the ones i've noticed are those hosted by PokeHQ, such as Pichusb.com, SPPnet.com, PokéSpecial, PokeTop500.com for example.

I guess as most of these sites are hosted by the PokeHQ, there must a server issue of some kind. I was wondering if there's anyone who has managed to know what's going on with Shawn's hosting or where is he. I'd like to know. (I think this thread should go here, as it's basically webmaster talk.)

So if anyone knows something, please let us know posting on this thread :)

Really, I have no clue why Shawn's server's been crapping up like it has been. Poke Peninsula was down too until JA moved it off his server.
And I think Brandon closed his site, but don't quote me on that. =/

I've been curious also as to what’s been going on to as I am/was an affiliate of SPPnet.com.

Plus there has been nothing but trouble with the RedHotServer. I just bought a great server from the Planet and we are moving everyone immediately.

Shawn's hosting is *constantly* down, I got completely sick of it and moved back to Greg, although I don't get as much space/bandwidth there. Notice that PHQ is rarely down when the rest of his hosted sites are down. Shawn's server seems to have disappeared completely, you can't get into your CPanel *anywhere*.

shawn is too obsessed with his crombie records thing to care about his server although pokedaily IS fine o.o. Well, my site is still down.

I think you're thinking about serebii.net. This is a different website- Scyther's Pokemon Place- sppnet.com. ^^

AOL can only kill something if we let it...

True, (Joseph got rid of AOL and they deleted our 8,000 hometown pages lol)

I think we're getting a little off-topic here.

It seems that there are two main Pokémon site hosts - Kyle, and Shawn - who both have major downtime problems *sigh*. Greg and I did buy a server but it fried and we had no money to fix it ;_; Or buy another one.

I noticed this awhile back too ;-; WCC *finally* got back up... >>;

WCC is KyleTech, right? Anthony's been complaining to me about downtime. But Greg's out of space, so he can't host any more sites :( We really need a new server.

Well, if you are needing a good host, I will always suggest Mihopa. I know! I know! You guys think "Oh! Boy. Not again. CC's been exploding this crap out of his mouth for years now". Don't think I'm advertising. I am just suggesting a good host. I have nothing to gain by recommending more members to Mihopa and remember, if Mike hosts people for free, he loses more than he gains.

My site Pokemon Gaming Sphere(www.pokedrome.info) is hosted by Mihopa and I would like to tell you it is really much more stable than all those paid hosts I've seen who give 100MB for 9.99$ claiming 100% stability is the reason for high price=D! Amen!

Kyle is a good host too though I hear his server isn't that stable. There are absolutely not much perfect good free hosts today and I'm telling you, getting a good free host is the best boon any webmaster can get!

Hm, I've noticed this too. Anyone know what happened to the APCC? It's either been down or had some weird article about a random disease on the homepage for a really long time o_O Maybe it was hacked?

Geometric-sama
June 24th, 2005, 04:36 AM
APCC's been like that for years, I don't think he's interested in it anymore -_-

I'm starting some re-seller hosting soon =D

Elixants servers are like really good, so, my hosting is really good!

Of course. You should donate all your space/bandwidth to Greg XD

Fat chance =P

I think I can find some uses XD

Geometric-sama
June 24th, 2005, 05:58 AM
If you did he'd host you and you'd give benefit to everyone else XD

APCC is gone and is not comming back, he has the weird article set up for the google ad to index.

pokejungle
June 24th, 2005, 02:41 PM
0o;; Didn't know he had an ad XD That's a good idea though 0-0;

Yea. I used to go to the APCC a lot...so I was really sad when he left it >>;

Ya pokejungle don't try doing that, if google finds out you might get kicked from the Adsense program.

There are just some aspects of our network that are bringing us down.

APCC is still around XD

I usually hear about him from Jeremy, those two seem to keep in touch quite often :P

APCC lingers around like a bad cold, or the homeless.

Mmm, TPP is down again (with the rest of my sites) due to out-of-bandwidth. I don't really have a choice, either I go with Shawn and have continuous downtime or stick with Greg and run out of bandwidth, since I only have 15GB (he has very limited bandwidth, hence PV is also down).

Morkula

Kyle's server seems pretty stable now. I hope... :P
Greg's always out of bandwidth... x.x

JK should just buy more :P

And I was gonna say, Kyle seems to have fixed the downtime issues ^^

Wow, you guys need better hosts :P, Integra Host (I use) Is a good one if you want unmetered bandwitdh (AKA Unlimited). The starter there is 7.95 a month for 2.5 gigs of space, and unmeaterd bandwitdh, and a bunch of other good stuff. Wow you are right though, those sites are dropping pretty fast.

I have access to everything on the server and what not, but yes Kyle's hosting is the best around ^_^

I need to find out prices on Elixant bandwidth upgrades, then I'll buy more for me and Greg XD He hosts too many sites which use too much of his bandwidth XD

pokejungle
July 15th, 2005, 02:43 AM
You have to go under Services -> Upgrades.

Kyle's servers are always down -.-;

There is no such thing as un-metered bandwidth...if a host says that an immediate red flag should be raised. From the “Un-Metered” sites I’ve seen about 20GB of BW is a realistic cut off point.

Jedi_Amara If you need a different host I could host you ^^, I'm currently not hosting anyone if want to be hosted then Just PM me with how much space you'll be needing and the sites URL !

There is one problem with actually running a server for most people, aside from the simple knowledge required... And that's the availability of high-speed internet. And I don't mean cable, DSL or similar, even. I mean seriously high-speed stuff. If a website gets much traffic, a standard cable connection probably can't handle it much.

And the specific problem is upstream speeds. I have cable, and the down is, in theory, a respectable 5 mbit connection. Of course it's never that fast in reality. Usually acts more like 2 mbit. >.< And the upstream is only around 512 kbit. Which, if you consider how most people have cable/DSL with downstream speeds 2-10x that, is insufficient. Internet with fast up and down speeds just doesn't exist in most areas yet, or, if it does, it's massively expensive... :|

Correction. We *used* to own a server XD. It fried (it was a dedicated server in a data centre). Now we're trying to raise money to get a new one, but at the moment we're using Elixant reseller hosting :)

I have highspeed...very FAST connection o0;; (Yay for COX! Now if only I could get digital cable...), I kinda wish I knew how to set one up in the first place, must be expensive o0;;

It's very easy. You just need a cheap system box, an old computer will do. Install Linux, Apache and all the modules you want on it, configure it to be accessible from the Internet and you're done XD

Greg and I are broke. We can't get our hosting service back up yet. -_-
