View Full Version : Signature Limiter is in testing.

To anyone who wants to see a shrunken signature, I've tried putting all that... into a skin. It makes scrolling awkward (unfortunately) but it helps with signatures that have heights beyond control. To see the Signature Limiter in action, select "Brains 'n' Brawns with Signature Limiter" (which is the theme modified for testing by the signature limiter). must do something about the stretching of it...
Q: What does this help do?
A: Well for one, it'll stop your signature from being continously edited if it passes through this. But if it doesn't, it'll still be edited. And this is only a minor thing. It'll probably spread across all layouts - if it's approved by the staff. ^_^
Special thanks to Tyler for showing the code associated with this.

Glad to see we're finally going to try another approach. ^_^
And I'm happy to be of service~

*Switches themes to the test theme*
Gah. Too bright!
Hmm... Looks like something that should be on all fourms. It makes everything look uniform. Really nicely done.

It's kinda odd looking at first but seems to work well.

I would rather have the signature limiter to limit signatures to an even smaller height. Big signatures sometimes makes thread reading difficult or even impossible, and can be quite a nasty distraction.
Edit: seems like my signature is within the height limit.

Thank God. Maybe my eyes won't burn out from the huge sigs now.

well, I just switched up themes... I have two statements to make... one, being, It seems as if it works perfectly, and another... at least its great that ... (atleast I think) the staff is listening to the user's ideas/comments even if this is just the beginning of it... (or the end, XD)... I hope to see great things from our people, lol. oh yea, maybe have went a little off-topic there, but anyways. Good jobs on the limiter... second reason im posting here is because I wanna see if mines over the limit, XD.

The Limiter is working ok for me. But one thing I got is that my sign got the scroll bars and I aske yesterday about my sign and I was told that it was ok to use. So I don't know if I'm breaking the Limits or not.

Dudes, this still doesn't solve the problem, and thus doesn't work perfectly...

Hmmmm is it just me who sees it that way, or this signature is a bit oversized?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v373/NiNGi/unique.bmp
Do I need to say anything on this?
And look which layout is it!? T3h weird brainy one... Now let's see...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v373/NiNGi/wtf.bmp
It left the previous ones untouched, and yet, it edited this??
That is NOT working perfectly... is it?
So now, is it me who misunderstood the purpose of this limiter thingy and how it works? O.o;
I tought it was to limit huge signatures, right!? o.o
EDIT: Yo! The images are pretty small because I forgot to save them in jpg and I can't be bothered to change them now... you can still get an idea, right!?

Funny, I actually see it in working. Are you using IE, because that's half the problem (Internet Explorer is the stuffiest at CSS). And I haven't tested the signature limiter in Left Postbit (Legacy Postbit).

BINGO!
I am, in fact, using IE.
That might be the problem I guess.... O.o;

Of course, IE always destroys webmasters' plans by trashing their layouts one way or another. <_<; Anyway, as I said before, the code isn't perfect, but it's better than nothing for now. I'm trying to find an alternative. ^^;

Yeah, the problem with it is if it's gonna stuff up IE, it's a problem. You can't expect everyone to switch to Opera or FireFox. >_<;

...I just got an idea. We could put an option in the User CP to disable the limiter, for those running IE, or those who don't want it.

o, no wonder people are saying its messed up... most of them are using IE... lol, I was using Firefox at the time of testing...
yea, I agree with maybe an option in User CP to disable/enable the limiter, seeing that some people like the die while looking at page long sigs...

The limiter may be in place for all themes with no option at all, if it helps the staff see signatures that go over the limit.

*twitch* Isn't the point of this so that signatures will always stay within 500x300, defeating the purpose for a limit? =\

Uh.... right... so you mean I either keep my freaky faulty limiter OR I switch to FF?
And what if someone likes huge signatures? XD
The idea of the option to enable/disable it is a good idea... *pets Ty*
Now get to work to solve this or I'll eat your heads up. XD

The original complaint is that the signatures that were oversized broke layouts, or were page sized. This pretty much solves the problem, but Internet Explorer does such a horrible job I recommend switching. However, I'm only testing, and I could see if there's a way to make the sig limiter only work in browsers other than Internet Explorer (an unstandardised piece of poop).

Hmm, looks effective. Tch, I think ya should incorporate that inta everysig -- saves mods tha trouble of checkin' every sig's size. ^^;;
