blue eyes white dragon

A dragon lies on a bed of hero’s bones-
Many have tried to slay him on their own.
“These men always strike me first,
I think it is my gold and potent blood they thirst.”
A hero wields a silver sword,
And makes a promise to his lord,
“I shall slay the second dragon with my sword,
Drink his blood, and bring back his hoard!”
The dragon thinks back to one day filled with pain:
The day that his mate was slain.
“The man that slew her was consumed by hate.
The promise he made to come back and kill me does still in my ears reverberate.”
The hero mounts a white charger brave,
And rides to the dragon’s deep cave.
“The vile cave draws near,
I will not let my face show fear.”
The dragon lies alone,
And gives a gloomy groan.
“I am so lonely here,
I wish for my mate to again be near.”
The dragon’s smoke rises from the gaping hole,
And into the cavern the hero does stroll.
“It is gold, blood, and the second dragon that I want,
I swear I will gain them on this jaunt!”
The dragon hears the hero’s tread,
And it fills his mind with dread.
“Why don’t they leave me alone in my despair?
I will just him come, I don’t care.”
The hero nears the inner lair,
And smiles at what he sees in the dank air.
“Riches, gold,
And treasure untold!”
The dragon sees the hero standing there from where he lies,
And he heaves two sad sighs.
“I don’t want to have to fight
Against this tall knight.”
The hero draws his steel,
And thrusts the blade into the dragon with zeal.
“You dragon so foul!
I shall yet make you howl!”
The dragon opens his eyes at the sudden pain,
And looks at the Hero with disdain.
“I recognize this face,
This is not his first time in this place.”
The hero once again
Hacks at the dragon with his weapon.
“Ha! You lazy fool!
You don’t even get up when I ridicule!”
The dragon remembers the long ago day,
When this same hero killed his mate while asleep he lay.
“No! This hero is the cause of my grief!
Only if I avenge my mate’s death will I find relief.”
The hero is surprised when the wounded dragon rears.
As the ground vibrates from the roar, the hero feels fear.
“My shield shall protect me
From this angry brute’s killing spree.”
The dragon swipes with claw,
And spews fire from his gaping maw.
“This hero is strong,
But he should start singing his death song!”
The hero takes a flying leap,
And cuts a wound wide and deep.
“Ha! I have finished you!
I have killed the last of two!”
The dragon lurches forward on one last breath,
And crushes the laughing hero, bringing on his quick death.
“I have avenged the death of my mate,
I will meet her at the Dark Forest’s Gate”.
The dragon heaves one last sigh,
And sheds a tear as he gazes up at the sky,
Finally ready to die.
Many have tried to slay him on their own.
