View Full Version : POKéMON Online!

Hello all, I'm currently creating a POKéMON Online game, but before you scoff and say it's been done before I'd like to say that I am not everyone else =P I believe I have gotten the farthest out of every POKéMON Online game so far and I plan on continuing. My game even allows ANYONE to create their own POKéMON game, rather than having to do hacks of ROMs.

I have released the old editor (awhile ago) and currently I am redoing the editor completely from scratch, which is almost finished:

I think this belongs somewhere else, but I don't know anything about ROMS or creating a game so I don't know. ._. I'll go PM someone now.

Not really a ROM or Game Boy game, so to Other Games.

Yes, and people will be able to create their own servers and POKeMON and such. It'll be quite a nice way to do it as hacks will become not as necessary anymore because of the great power this will provide.

I'm not sure I agree with moving it as it was in POKeMON General, and it DOES deal with POKeMON yet it's in Non-POKeMON discussion o.o

One of the best ideas ever thought of. This is great, I mean being able to create your own pokemon and games, unbelivable. I have a few name ideas:

Pokemon Virtual
Pokemon Online (Plain and simple)
Virtualmon
Intermon
Pokemon internet version
Pokeweb

A new screenshot showing some new features, such as MULTIPLE tilesets in ONE level. That's right, no more having to use one tileset for a level, you can now use any amount of tilesets that you want. There's also the option to turn snapping to grid off, which means that you can lay tiles anywhere (as shown in the screenshot) rather than in the squares per tile size. As you can see I am using two tilesets(well, the ghost isn't a REAL tileset but it's just to test) in one level:

I think this will end up as a great game.
And how long have you been working on this?

Not exactly sure. Not SUPER long but I didn't just start the project yesterday, probably around 6 months or so. I did most of the game engine up and had the old map editor finished but I've scrapped those both in favour of switching to Visual Basic.NET to power it all ^_^;; The .NET versions SHOULD be about 10x faster than the original game/editor.

I have fixed the bug in the editor, which means it's *JUST* about complete. It needs some small additions (adding scripting, adding items, adding POKeMON, etc) that should take a total of a full day or two to complete and than I'll be set to release.

However, everyone needs to have DirectX9 and the .NET framework installed as it's built in Visual Basic.NET, so download those before the editor is out (for those who want to play/build levels).

Indeed I am from Graal Online, how'd you remember me? From when I was Account Admin or..? o.o I don't remember you..I don't think.

Anyway the editor is quickly progressing, hurrah! This will be the first POKeMON ONLINE to actually FINISH and also the first that will allow players to build their own offline/online POKeMON games that function EXACTLY like the gameboy games.

that someone can't help you get even more faster?
And are you going to use F/G pokemon or the originals?

I already have a full staff list actually, in fact we already have much of the graphics done and my levels team is waiting on me to finish the editor. The game engine was done but now I'm redoing it from scratch to speed up the engine as I'll need it to be as fast as possible before I attempt to allow people to play ^_^;;

The game also allows anyone to create their own POKeMON game (that uses EVERYTHING from the games, EVERYTHING) so that it's an EXACT clone of the functions the GBA/GB games have. ^_^

The game should hopefully be out in a couple of months, it all depends on how fast I can get it all completed, but I'm hoping for a mid-April release but I could be WAYYYYYYYYYYY off. The game will be released the second we get the main server all set up and working. ^_^;;

Yeah, they're quite slow because they're bitmap files with a .PNG tag, so they're very large. Everything about the game is progressing VERY nicely if I do say so myself and this shall be the very first POKeMON ONLINE game to go through! ^_^;; I'll continually post updates (such as when the Map Editor is out) and screenshots of the game and all that ^_^;;

Happened to me aswell. The amount of months make it seem a long time, infact it is. Though I'm sure it will be worth the wait by the look of the screenshots. The first completed online game. Cool!

I wouldnt think you'd remember me from Graal anyways.. i never used this name there, and i started around 1.28 but i played once every 2nd month or so, i've changed my name 4-5 times or so on Graal

Anyways this is coming along very nice, i like it so far, and the idea is good... no more Rom hacking.. :D

DeathChill
February 19th, 2004, 6:48 AM
You couldn't have started ON 1.28 as 1.28 was only a test version put out after with a server, Graal skipped 1.28 XD

Anyway I know that a couple months may seem like a long time but it isn't really. It all depends on how quickly I can get it all done, and it seems as if I will get it done fairly quick and fairly securely. I use a trinary encoding for levels, animations, and everything that people could try and hack so it will be fairly secure I'm hoping ^_^;;

And bah, please don't come in here (COKKA) and talk about how good the other game and how long mine is taking as his is developed in Java and run in a website when mine will be an executable.

Well when i meant on 1.28 i meant around there, i cant exactly remember what version, but it was around 1.28-1.39 or something.. but meh.

And is it possible to make your own trainer sprites for online use, when the game comes out?

Where do i download... erm... the proggies you said are required?

DeathChill

http://graalubb.hypermart.net/MaleHero1.png

That is the template for those who are wishing to have their sprites grace the world of POKeMON ONLINE. There are only a few requirements:
The sprite must be of game-quality, the sprite cannot be for your personal-use only, and the POKeMON the sprite is surfing on can be any POKeMON that can learn SURF.

Required files:
.NET framework:

Description of the four formats so people can understand them before I get forced into asking a million questions when the editor is out XD:
TILESETS:
Intermediate Tileset File (*.ITF):
This file contains a link to the image file used for the tileset and definitions
of each tile.This is the format tileset files should be saved in while you're still working on them.

Compiled Tileset (*.TIL;*.TILE):
This file contains an imbedded copy of the image file used in the tileset (so it
doesn't need to be redistributed), definitions for each tile, and the animation
data for the tiles. This means that the user doesn't need to even distribute the actual image, only the *.TILE file.

MAP/LEVEL FILES:
Intermediate Map File (*.IMF):
This file contains plain text defining the layout of the map, and which tilesets
are used. This is the format level files should be saved in while you're still working on them.

Compiled Map File (*.MAP):
This file is an exact copy of the IMF but encoded so it is not readable by end
users which means it can no longer be edited in the map editor.

ANYONE can make a sprite for the game ^_^;; It just has to be accepted as it MUST match the games style. Also you might want to save the sprite set as my host is going down as Hypermart's kicking out free customers XD

Sounds awsome even though I think you should make your own maps for the game and just let people build houses ect... But make your own pokemon that is sweet. If it is going to do all that why not let people make there own characters as well *shrugs*.

Well, the main server will have Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, etc. I hate playing created worlds as they never have the same feel so I don't want to do that ;x You can make your own POKeMON if you're making your own game as the main server will feature only the real 386 POKeMON. People CAN make their own characters, hence why I posted the spritesheet. o.o

For any characters you make, make sure to upload them somewhere and post them in the thread so they can be reviewed :)

I agree with Mac2492 about that. But if you're
just frustrated about putting screenshots up,
it doesn't matter at all. Well, I'm sure people
have got the impression that you're a hard working
guy by now, so I guess everyone will never give
up the idea that some time this year they'll get
that editor. (Although some might get bored)
