Okay welcome to PC’s official Art competition, where we give you the chance to battle against each other (I mean that in the lightest way possible) for the top prize as well as a chance to call yourself the best artist of PC! XD

Judges:

Anyways, first things first, announcing the judges…well there are only five…which is all the better because it will be easier to discuss XP

Yup yup…your art will be put into the hands of us five!...heh heh heh heh…

Anyways:

The Competition

This Art contest will be purely for the art gallery, we allow no banners, sprites or trainer cards, only artwork:

Digital art (MSPaint or pixel art perhaps), digital art (other, e.g. Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro), traditional art (sketches), traditional art (coloured), Oekaki and so on.

All of the above is accepted in this competition and perhaps more if we can ever think of it >.<

Running the Competition

How it will run? Well:

There will be a competition every month, thus meaning that you will have one month to complete your entries and enter them in the entry thread (Yes there will be an entry thread and a discussion thread). Then we will judge the pictures and let you know who gets first second and third place.

We will be judging overall, so this means that all types of art will be judged at the same time….thus meaning that sketches will be up against digital art and so forth.

Runs like a normal competition that’s all XD

Themes

Now themes will be random, for example, one month it can be Hybrids and another it could be Game characters. No matter what the theme it will be an open one so that it gives you enough choice. We will not be allowing any themes like Final Fantasy or Hellsing, because there are many that do not know anything of those, so you can be guaranteed that it will be open enough for everyone to join.

Entering

It’s easy to enter. Just make sure you read the whole of this thread and then you can post in the entry thread that will have the current contest at the start. You can enter every month if you wish, but you will only be allowed to enter once each month, so one entry per person each month, no more. You may change your entry as long as the contest is still running…but we would much prefer you didn’t…makes it easier you know. You will have to edit your previous entry, but leave a note saying that you have changed it.

Discussing

You can discuss in this discussion thread all you want, but we do not want any flaming of any kind. You can discuss yours and other entries here but there will be no discussion in the entry thread.

And that’s about it! Hope you have fun and remember to actually read the current competition XD

Looks good, but the wings aren't lined up. That'd bring your mark down if I were voting. It's a nice pic, though. :)

I likely won't get around to doing one, which is hardly a surprise since I don't post pics here often at all(where *did* my topic get to... :P), and I haven't put any pictures on my PC for awhile, either... I do have an idea, though. :D

The wings are ment to be in that way to look kinda fast and bring it into motion of what way Flygon is going =D Sorry if it still seems a little off but I'v learned when I was judging these back at oekaki's I found five basis to be a main point bringer; Orginiality,consept,shading,lineart and backrounds. =( I'm not normaly "good" At lineart and I still need alot of work so I may not win this time XD But man is it fun to just noin one of these !.
Oh and as for the originality and consept=D I am going to be fully honest about the information on the Entry thred ^^.

Yay! It's been sooooo long since I've entered an art contest! I was just thinking of starting an art thread here, and instead I saw the contest sticky! Boy... I hope I can compete; there are some really talented people here.

I'm not doing an Oekaki though, I'm still not used to the setup of it. I think I'll be coloring it in Photoshop. But I'll draw the linework on paper first. That's how I prefer to do all my digitally colored drawings. I do much better on paper than with a mouse. >-<

Anyway, hope lots of people enter, the only one that's done it so far is Freenaturearts! Good luck to everyone!

Oooh, uh I have a question. *this'll give a bit of my pic away, but that doesn't matter* In my drawing, there's a little Charmander biting an Arbok; is that too risque? (It doesn't look scary though, I am cursed with the power to only draw cute XD) Is it gonna be too graphic or anything? There's no blood or anything, but you can see his teeth sinking in a bit.

If it's too much, I'll just change it. I'm not too stubborn. ^-^

I think that'll be fine, Light Azumarill! :) As long as the pic is rated PG-13 or less then it's okay, as that's the age for joining this forum. :) What you've described doesn't contain blood or graphic imagery so I think that'll be fine! ^^ Thanks for your question, and I hope that helps! :D

I have a small question which doesn't apply to this month.

How do the judges choose the theme for that particular months contest?

I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread where other users can post some ideas for next months theme, or something like thats.

Personally, I would like next months theme to be interpretations of Pokemon moves :).

If you have any suggestions for a theme, feel free to post them in here :) As this is for discussion of the contest, that's where they'd be most fitting. :D Remember to make them very broad and not too specific. :)

As for ideas for everyone to do... um, I know a lot of the artists draw pokemon/human and animal/human morphs. That would be an interesting contest. (Dunno if I would enter though, I kinda stink at humans XD)

As for what I quoted,
The pokemon/humans =3 are called Pokesonas or Pokes for short XD. I think it would be very cute =3

I dont know what idea would be good for next month o.o but I wonder if that is to narrow , I stink at humans too XD closest to them I can do is a sweet image of mewtwo or D, would be one very good way to practice though ^^.

:nods: I know I feel kidna rival like ta LA, I dont know why when we like eachother fairily much but that is the meening of art contests is to for a short time attack with there best artwork XD And see who's workin hardest.

In think it would be all in one catagory, if it was a bunch of diffrent kinds it would not be fair to others who put there heart into the work and may leave out a few people if they are the only one in the feature, like me and my now useing Gimp insted of oekaki for half my drawings =D I just havent posted the gimp relaited ones ^-^.

But...that can't happen (I'd be shocked if it did...a 6-way tie or something...XD). So.........uh..........WOOT! *runs off*

Wow, I consider us sorta-rivals too Freenaturearts! ^^; I admire your art because the style is so unique; I just draw pokemon like the anime, but you always have this unique flair to them. That's something I don't do very well. But, hey, rivals can always be friends as well. Hey, isn't that a pokemon theme? We're rivals when we're battling, but otherwise we're friends? Ahh, the lessons of pokemon.

Man, I worked my butt off on that picture; it took me like a week to do. >_> And I agree with Cybex, all the pictures PWN. They're all so different, I really think they should make it either computer art or pencil n' paper. That way someone doesn't look at a really good pencil drawing and then a colorful computer drawing and dismiss the first. I'll tell ya' one thing, if that were a real airbrush I was using, it would've turned out like a colorful blob, and if I had really used a paintbrush, it would've been all smudgy and lumpy.

I think next time I enter one of the contests though, I'll (for one, pick a week where I'm not totally stressed out!) do just pencil. It was my first favorite medium, and textures are so much easier to do. Plus, I just like the sketchy, black, gray, and white style.

Anyway, the contest's not over yet, there are still others who might enter! Who knows... I always thought that if Cowrie enters, we'll all probably be doomed-- she rocks!

Oh I know that picture is just adorible =3. I love the thickness in the ears and the backround makes it seem kinda like a old CardCepters ep I saw once , I swear I'm in love with yue... (Wants to draw him so bad but doesint have the guts to screw him up X_X)

Birds maybe, but not on the computer. Birds are my best work, though I've hardly tried to draw them on the computer. For a long time I was "anti-drawing-on-the-computer" because I thought that it would replace traditional art. I think I was about 12. ^__^

Now I'm a bit more open, but I always prefer to draw my pics on paper when possible.

Oh, yeah, FNA, I never said anything about your collab idea! (At least I think I didn't... >_<) I'd really like to do one sometime! But you'll have to keep in mind, I've never really done a collab pic. The only time I've ever done that was when I drew something and my brother colored it. ^^; So, you'll have to excuse me if I seem a little lost. I once tried to do another collab pic sorta thing with a friend of mine for a school project, and she kept getting mad at me for 'ruining her work'. So also forgive me if I seem a bit timid about it, I haven't had many good experiences. XD Though I really do think it would be fun!

I would assume it would count. Phoenixes are magical and mystical in my book. In fact, I was almost gonna draw that, but I felt the call of griffons. ^^

Oh, and you can also spell it "Gryphon". Hm... I think that might be the most poplular way.

I'm gonna do mine in pencil but color the eyes with a sky blue colored pencil. It'll make a nice effect. And I've also decided my griffons will be part Peregrine Falcon, part White Tiger. I thought I'd pick animals that would look good together, and the stripes and gray and white on Peregrine Falcons match nicely with white tigers. ^-^

yes you would, Leviathan is a sea serpant, and thus a mythological being. Do a search on Leviathan and you will get a whole bunch of sea serpents under the name.

^^ Yeah, I did one for chocobo and found some images that had NOTHING to do with FF7 creatures o_o It was spooky but there is alot of creatures out there that are possible for the Mythical beast section,
Lock ness, Wyvers,dimars,dragons,Celest,Pixies,Fairies,griphons, Capricorns,unicorns,Centars,phinix,Medlons,Nomes,Demons,Caltas,ents and so on ^^.

I have a book of over 300 Mythical beasts so I kinda think it would be to large to post them all o_o But almost anything that we dont think (Or think ) was alive in the past and alive now that we cant see, can be considered for Mythical beasts. Huge insects was a great Myth for folk lores o_o;(Likes bugs but not big ones<<<)
Even sertan flowers are considered myths , special fishes and a type of Octopie. =D Awsome thing this Mythical world has XD and I'v only seen a real live Saltasaur(Lock ness) Skeleton .

And for those who dont remember my Dimar raid of when I joined this oekaki;

Dimar: A Type of furry or low key and kind Dragon, known for the bars above their eyes and the fur that always covers their cheeks, Dimars are one of the most popular dragons in resent history, with a fanned tail and Bridled wings they take to the sky only when they know they are needed or to travil in their Tribe as a Protector againced other dragons that are not to be of a peacekeepers delight.

This here is my own home made dimar I named Kokierie(Ko-key-er-ey) A Young unknown force stands among this dimar for he is the only known Son of the Resent Rebel to the thrown Salem Star, with wit to boot and a bunch of bite for a 5 year old dimar, he's willing to lend his father a hand in ways his older sisters can not think of.

In the battle againced the Murdering prince Nire, Salem star is a formitable Dimar but he will raise this young brout befor he advances to the kingminship of the Haerren Dimar Tribe known as Aroura Teal. Name after the now deseased queen that brought Salem star from his family when her husband Kial-ie Destroyed his parents. Nira will stop at nothing to also kill this Young male and has gone threw many Battles to try and tire the up-n-coming Protector of the land Salem Star himself.

This is going to be combined to my other one, for it is this Dimar male who I am desiding to have with his big sister Sorale ^(The dragon I updated befor)
They are going to be flying together I think,I may switch it to Salem himself if I cant get it E rated O_O aka no femal parts noticable in big figures. (Yes dimar females have a chest >> And man is it hard to not add that.

Thanks LA and Mew, I'm going to be working more on the dimar shortly, I dont know about poses for griphons though o_o They have very hard skins and the shape of the wings and the legs all in one gives a sertan flaw in walking,flying,jump .ect. Maybe you could make some "stick" doodles and it will help ideas pop up for the pose?

And I hope I can mail you the book someday, I so wanna take photos and scan all the pictures of the animals for you guys but it seems to be to thick, when I unfold it for the camera it flops back on itself befor the picture is done, and when I scan it I need to leave it open (This REALY hurts my already poor eyes X_X)

^_^ Thanks FG and Cybex, I wish there was a way to do it in full modes insted of in segments, but I'm starting to put them together and I just need to sketch out the rough ends on the other pieces to finish the linart, I dont know full color detail on Kokierie for I just made him three weeks ago and his head was just made this week o_o he's in my story about dimars though, so some of his colors show up as I think back to it ^^.
At the same time Salem has been done befor ,again and again and again xD He's a dimar anchent tribe that has yet to be found. His wings are covered in a magical dust that has no purpose yet, while the swearls among then seem to keep everyone in high hopes that he will release them from their prison under Nira.

Then, because Shiftry (Dirtengu in Japanese), is based on a Tengu, I was thinking of drawing that.

I even made an entire set of pictures but I choose that one over my Phoenix (which I also considered entering, which no one has seen) because, no one would do a Chimera. Also the Chimera was my most recent picture and I liked how I used the fire effects. =3

I'm Igtica and I've been at PC since the original PC (I joined many years back) I used to be around here alot but i lost my net connection a few years back and now I have it back (finally).

I'm so flattered at the comment and prediction of my piece, I really am. I wish you all could have been around to witness my poor early work (actually an awful lot is on my deviantart account if your interested..see siggy). It's really starnge to get so many predictions. I don't think you should all predict too early though. In my days here the best pieces used to appear last minute and they'd be stunning. I adore Freenature's piece. It's spectacular. I can't wait for her to put it up. The other entries here too already prove very competitive for my piece. I wouldn't predict a placing personally, the piece isn't as unique as many of the others which are stunning. I adored looking at the other entries and everyone whos entered so far should be pleased. This is a phenomonal contest and the pieces and what make it so, so every artist who enteres gets a vote of envy at they're beauty and originality from me. I can't wait to see the rest of the entries. I bet it'll knock mine out of the skies of middle earth.

btw The pic is of a fell beast. The nazgul ride them (the witch king in particular). I'm just pleased peeps recognise it. it says alot for me.... glad i spent those hours on paintshop pro ^-^

I really do wish you the best of luck (not that you need it ;) ) I really hope that you aren't intimidated anymore. I didn't put my piece up to put fab artists like yourself off. It really isn't that good. But i really appreciate that peeps can see how much work i put into it. It's nice for a pic of mine to have some kind of use. I know the judges have started their judging and I am not about to loose
on the chance to even enter into this contest, reading this information
and making some from words I have heard from my own elders. I have
mustered up the insperation to finish exactly 95.2% of the image. Though
stairs and elfs where not made. After the contest is threw I will be
sure to compleat it in all it's glory.

I am going to enter it now but I thought I would give the information out
to show how much work I put into it and it's history. Enjoy the Legends
and myths of a creature I was for sure in a past life, depicted in this
image is possibly what I would look like if I where one.. Enjoy.

Throughout the more then 2,000 years of it's history, the unicorn has remained one of the most elusive of creatures. Although colorful and intriguing tales of the unicorns abound in all corners of the world, the one constant found in all depictions, pictorial or written, is the single horn protruding from the forehead if this magnificent beast..

The first "real" unicorn was probably the Monoclonius, a herbivorous dinosaur that roamed North America about 120 Million years ago. Resembling the rhinoceros, the Monoclonius wields a short stout nasal horn..

Accountes of battles between unicorns and elephants may have been inspired by another real unicorn, the prehistoric mammal known as Elasmotherium, found in Europe, Russia, and Asia in the late Pleistocene period. This enormouse beast was roughly the same size as the elephan, with en impressive horn extending up to six and one-half feet long.

While there are seven references to the unicorn in the Old testament, there has always been some debate about the accuracy of the translations and the actual identity of the beast. Although that remains in doupt, it's fierce, indomitable, and mysterious character is consistent throughout. There is some speculation among scholars that the animals mentioned may have been an extinct species of wild ox known as en auroch, or Re'em in Hebrew. Adding to the confusion were Egypt and Mesopotanmian sculptures representing the bull in profile with apparently only one horn.

A gift from en Egyptian queen, Alexander the Great's royal steed-known as Bukephalos-was described as having the "ivory horn of a unicorn and the tail od a peacock." When Bukephalos died, alexander built en entire city to honor him.

Greek mythology tells of the she-goat named Amathea who nursed Zeus. When the god broke off one of Amathea's hoens- thereby transforming her into a unicorn-a great abundance of food poured forth from it. From this story came the term "horn of plenty" or cornucopia.

Julius Caesar reported sighting a unicorn in the vicinity of the Black forest in Germany. He described the animal as similar to both ox and the stag, with a single horn in the center of its forehead which resembled the branch of a tree.

A greek physician known as Ctesias recorded the first written accounts of unicorns in the 4th century, B.C Traders had told him of huge wild asses in India-some lager then horses-with deep red heads, white bodies, blue eyes, and a single horn in their foreheads. The horns were white at the base, black in the middle, with the tips blood red.

India was spared invasion by the single, selfless act of a unicorn. As Genghis Khan, the ruthless and feared Mongol warrior prepared to wage war, a lone unicorn apeared and bowed before him three times. The great warlord took it as a warning against the expedition from the spirit of his dead father, turned his army around and departed.

The southern indian unicorn, known variously as the eale of yale, was even more unusual then conventional versions of the creature. A single horn protruded from the forehead and continued sprouting from the back of its head. This strange horn allowed the animal to protect itself from attack from either the front or back. According to Indian folklore, the eal was held captive to serve as a talisman for wading off evil spirits.
The wildest of all the unicorns had a stag's head, a horses body, elephant feet and a single black horn about three feet long. Known as Monoceros, which means " one-horned," this beast was so fierce it could not be captured alive.

the Persian unicorn- known as a shadhahvar- appears a peaceful, gentle creature. So thought the victims of this cruel beast who, by funneling the wind through its hollow horn, created hauntingly beautiful melodies to lure helpless animals out of their hiding places. The moment they ventured close, they would be slain by the evil shadhahvar, of whom it was said: "When we think we have tamed it, it escapes; when we are ready to worchip it, it turns into the devil."

The Orongo was an animal sacred to the Mongols and Tengutans. There where reported to have been whole herds of these antelope, but the singular Orongo or "one horn" was a rare occurance-about 1 in 2,000. according to legend, its single ringed horn could foretell future events, and its blood had medicinal properties.

Known for its keen sense of justice, Kirin is the name of this ancient Japanese unicorn with a lion's face,deer's body, and dragon scales, who protects the innocent and punishes the guilty.

The unicorn know as a ki-lin has had a rich history in chinese folklore, where stories portray it as a kind, solitary creature found in deep forests and among quiet mountains, eating no living thing, and not even treading on a blade of grass. The sighting of ki-lin was interpreted as a good omen signifying that a long period of peace was imminent.

A credulous medieval Europe ambraced the idea of the unicorn, and codified the qualities that have remained the most familiar to us in modern times. It was at this juncture in its history that the animal became a sacred and wondrous creature: a pure white steed with a flowing mane, an ox tail, an a single spiralling horn, associated with such positive attributes as nobility, strength, purity, innocence, freedome, beauty, and magic.
A conception of the unicorn as a holy creature of God, endowed with the magical abilities to bring life out of death and purify water, gained currency from bestiaries of the moddle Ages. in some legends it was told that the unicon would make the sign of the cross over poisonous water with its single horn- called the alicorn by some. (this beasts is whom I drew my creature from.)

According to some folk tales, the unicorn of the Middle Ages symbolized the season of spring, and was thought to possess the ability to renew life,heal sickness, and guard against evil.

Just as the unicorn was a symbol of spring, the ferosious lion came to symbolize the summer. Each and every year the unicorn (spring) and lion (summer) battled for supremacy, and each and every year the gentle unicorn yielded to summer's fury.

The unicorn horn was highly prized by the rich and powerful because if its ascendancy over poison and evil. It was considered so caluable in fact that some wealthy landowners would mortgage or sell part of their astate to obtain one. taking advantage of th gullibility of the rich, hunters often produced tusks from the narwhal- an arctic whale with a long spiral tusk, sometimes known as the sea unicorn. This was a far easier task then producing the horn from an elusive and well-hidden unicorn like the one shown in my entery.

In some countries the legend sprang up that hunters attracted unicorns by using reluctant young virgins as bait. Scenting sich a maiden in the forest, the unicorn would seek her out, allow itself to be petted, and fall asleep in her lap. Whereupon the hunters would spring upon the unsusoecting beast and cature it for their king..

Rumors of unicorn, also called Souanamma, extended even into the Americas. Duringa voyage in 1564, Sir John hawkins wrote in his journal that adventurers acquired and brought back pieces of the Souanamma's horn abtained fron natives in Florida.

In 1575, Andre Thevet recorded a description of a unicorn-like sea animal known as Campchurch ( in the original French, he refferred to it as "Camphur" ) in his book, universal Consmography ( La Cosmographie Universelle). The creature had been found near the straits of Malacca in an area that is now part of Malaysia.

It wasn't untill the 15th century in Europe that the unicorn was used as a heraldic symbol, dovetailing with its newfound status as a sacred animal. The Almaricornan intereting combination of a winged seahorse and a unicorn-appeared in the coat of arms belonging to Knights of the Realm.

Known as the "unicorn of the sea" the narwal or Monodon Monoceros in an arctic whale whose horn is actually a very large tooth composed of ivory. The hunting of narwals for this presious substance has made them en endagered species..

Found in the evening sky between Orion and hydra, Monocerose is the constellation named in honor of the unicorn. Its first apearance was on a Dutch theologain's celestial globe in the early seventeenth century, and several years later came into general use on a German mathematician's star charts with the name "Unicornu". Monoceros boasts two blue-giant stars that are fifty-five times the size of the sun. These are the two most massive stars yet discovered, and together are known as Plaskett's star.

The great Indian rhinoceros with its single black horn was likely the inspiration for many unicorn tales. Sadly, this endagered species is still being slaughtered for its horn. unless conservation efforts succeed on its behalf, the rhinoceros may join the unicorn and exist only in legend..

I almost want to withdraw my entry because of the pressure it puts you under. but I know in my heart you'll do better than me no matter how badly or well either of us do. It's inspurational the commitment you have for your piece. I feel lucky i had the time to do mine in my own time. don't ruin it in rushing (as if you ever could). It is one hell of a contest. Man I just got mine in and all we are missing in the srtist catagory is Light azumarill =D! Come on ^_^ Even if it's not finished it's worth entering befor it ends =3. Though we would still love to see it in it's full veiw as finished ^^.

At this moment, I was nervious but after I posted my drawing I knew it was out there and the choices the judges have is up to them wether it's compleat in a sertan way or not XD So I'm pretty laxed at the moment and after a long day I'm glad too. I'll possibly freak in the morning but thats tomorrow :Basks in today:

Wow some more awesome entries since I last looked ^-^ Glad you managed to finish yours FreeNature..I love ...CrystalClaire...i think it was... I love her really original idea of a misty mermaid! You get an iggy hug for your effort from me if that countsas an award at all...though i think everyone that entered deserves one *iggy hugs every entrant* they're all stunning...gotta say though i wish i could see the detail more on cowries...i'm guessing its awesome as what i can see is....it's just a wee but dark on my comp...but i bet its my screen resizing it too much so i hope everyone else is enjoying it. The judging draws near..I just wanted to take this oppertunity to congratulate everyone on fantastic entries and wish you all every bit of luck (not that you need it ^-^)

Woot! The contest is almost over. I'm suspecting a win for FNA. That Unicorn looks awesome, and a lot of work.

Stevo-kun: Very pretty. Not very sure lines though. Also a nice try on texture.
Chriz: That's me, skipped.
Pokedragonfire: A lacking pose but a interesting concept. Shading isn't very consistent with lightsource. Pluss an obsering watermark, it tends to annoy some people.
