View Full Version : Pokémon Community Get Together 6?

Curious to everybody's polite opinion, but eventually I would get into this. Anyway, it's been a while since PC had an actual get-together. Get-togethers were, if the community veterans remember, a community group cluster - members would invite all their friends to attend one grand chit-chit. Since the fourth Get-Together, it has also been the hold of community events such as the original PokéCommunity singing contest (which the recently canceled one deviates from), the grand chit chat, a chain story, an avatar and signature contest and an art contest.

The get-togethers go through a slightly big history. The first get-together was helped by Kwesi, while the rest were member managed (and successful, except for the fifth one, which flopped because of lack of staff participation and PM clusters). All get-togethers before the fourth one lasted only one day. From then on, three days were allocated to the Get-Togethers to suit the introduced events. The Get-Togethers we've had were special. We also had mini events, such as the Pokémon Community Halloween Party, Christmas Bash (Christmas Party) and Easter Dash (Easter Party, which never was held with the absense of Kayleigh).

So, it's about time the idea came in again. For a major activity boost, we usually send invitations. The Get-together is a partly member-managed and a partly Administration Representative-managed event. Invitations are mass mailed or PMed to people. PMing people invitations to the Get-Together is usually a PM Group or PM cluster. And those people are especially needed for Get-Togethers.

This is an especially social event! It was when everyone on the boards actually participated at something. And no, it wasn't so formal that you had to talk like I am right now (with the correct punctuation and grammar). But it was the only day where Other Chat would have a bunch of stickies (or one in the case of the first three get-togethers) and you got to post in them (most topics didn't belong in other chat and got moved out when the whole get-together ended).

So, we need a bunch of events, and assistance. However, it's up to all you members to talk about the Get-Together, tell what you want, and it'll be passed on to the staff for approval before it becomes an official community event (like the rest). I concede, usually this stuff passes through the staff, but in the past it was unreliable. So, it's up to you members to say what you want. Do you want events? How long should it be?

The events!
Of course, there's always a suggestion for events. What events should be in the Get-Together if we have them? Here's what I suggest.
- Singing Contest - The original community singing contest, where you would be judged by a single person (me, in the original contest). First, you'd have to post your entries in the number of days the get-together would last for. Then, when it's judging time, I'd listen to your entries and give comments, and then pick the best one. The original was the most effective (and the one recently canceled definitely wasn't).
- Chain Story - A chain story, script form or story form, where we type up a story and it is replied to with additions to the story. You know what a chain story is, it's a story which you write up a continuation from the previous post!
- Art Contest - Art festival where we all post art. It's a contest which the art gets rated! A judge is required, and a topic should be discussed.
- Avatar/Profile Picture Contest - Post an avatar or profile picture (attach it) and have it rated as the best (one judge or more required). The topic? That's what we have to work out here.
- Signature Contest - Attach screenshots of your signatures and get them rated (requires at least one judge). The topic? That's what we have to work out here.

Timeframe
How long should this year's last?
- 1 week! - It allows time for event playing and judging, plus, a giant chat.

Judges and Contest Topics
We need to work out judges, and the topics for contests for the following contests:
- Art Contest (There may be requirements for judges taking the art contest)
- Avatar/Profile Picture Contest
- Signature Contest

ah, this sounds awesome. like the pokemon geek olympics? that's so cool. gather people from all over the world to compete in spriting/sig/avatar creation. it'll promote international cooperation or something good like that... has a timeframe been discussed? cuz i think it'd be smart to hold it over the winter holiday while we're all lounging and being bored out of our wee brains. i dunno what i could do, i don't really have any area of expertise here... i could maybe critique original trainer cards or something... cuz that's really the only thing i've done here for people (create the magical mini-cards). ok, that's a terrible idea... well... i dunno. even if i'm just gonna be useless and completely unhelpful, i'll show up. we should revive "the bar" RP. it was kinda popular around when i joined (may 04) it'd bring back good memories (for me at least). and we could have like some main get together thread where people can socialize and say where they're going next (eg. the avatar rating tent/contest as if it was a fair or something). it's late and i'm tired... sorry for my stupidity.

That sounds like a great idea! It reminds me of some "festival" in PC with different activities. Although I don't have any other ideas at the moment, I'd be glad to do whatever I can do to help.

It sounds great~! =D (Feels a bit of shame where the singing contest was mentioned) ._.

If we need to decide on a topic, we need to decide on a date, ne? n_n;;;;

Any ideas for dates? =3;

This seems an interesting event. If members hosted the AMVs themselves, would an AMV making contest be acceptable?

that sounds awesome! <3
I will sure be in the singing contest- if it ever happens.
I don't know about winter brake though (do you mean christmas by that?) cause I might be going to NY to visit my friend.
Yes, I think it should run for a week...

The good ol' PokeCommunity Get-Together. I bet most of the newer members wasn't even around for the last one. XD
It sure has changed a lot since 22sa had the first one going, 1 big thread (well 2 since I think it was me that started a 2nd because the 1st was getting out of hand XD) filled with super fast posting where by the time you made a reply to someone's post 20 posts were done added. XD
I wonder if anyone is still around from back then (other then Staff). XD

I think maybe it should be a week long thing. That way the judges and stuff has enough time etc.

Anyway good luck with it.

rsgh5: Christmas Bash occurs during Winter Break though~!ah, sorry, i had no idea such a thing existed. well, then it should be some time this fall? ahh... i dunno. i'm no good at this planning business... *weeps* but ya, a week sounds agreeable. i really don't care when it is if it's spanning a whole week, cuz i'll be able to post for at least 5 of the 7 days.

Well Andy, I note that 22sa sometimes (rarely) comes. So he could be counted.

Okay, one week is settled.

Events time. Your suggestions, people?

Tetsuya, I'll most likely be here if it's on the weekends. I haven't been here this past week because I lacked an internet connection. Now University has wireless library, and our Landlord is installing a wireless router this Friday, so again, I'll likely be here if it's held on a weekend.

So for timing, have it on a Saturday, and from late afternoon to late night. The Australians won't likely be here till late at night, so don't have this in the morning......

So 22sa, do you have your own tips at promoting the event?

22sa
September 8th, 2005, 11:22 PM
lol I haven't gotten involved in one since the last one I mad in September 2003. I don't think PC really needs this.

I mean, who do you hope to be there? That's the question we had a lot of answers to when I made the first two. Now, that's changed, for me at least.

DCC can reach that speed - in fact, faster - quite easily when there's enough people around. Problem is that it only ever lasts for about half an hour at the most, then everyone leaves or starts spamming. ;\

Nice ideas all~

I've seen it last for more then half an hour before.... It went up like 1200 posts that day.

But yeah.... we already have a really friendly & active DCC now.

Tetsuya, if the high staff can mass PM or e-mail all the members, we can still make it. But I don't see the big purpose of this yet...

When was this? O_o

Mass e-mailing is easy; mass PMing is near impossible, and guaranteed to make the server crash. :P
