Curious to everybody's polite opinion, but eventually I would get into this. Anyway, it's been a while since PC had an actual get-together. Get-togethers were, if the community veterans remember, a community group cluster - members would invite all their friends to attend one grand chit-chit. Since the fourth Get-Together, it has also been the hold of community events such as the original PokéCommunity singing contest (which the recently canceled one deviates from), the grand chit chat, a chain story, an avatar and signature contest and an art contest.
The get-togethers go through a slightly big history. The first get-together was helped by Kwesi, while the rest were member managed (and successful, except for the fifth one, which flopped because of lack of staff participation and PM clusters). All get-togethers before the fourth one lasted only one day. From then on, three days were allocated to the Get-Togethers to suit the introduced events. The Get-Togethers we've had were special. We also had mini events, such as the Pokémon Community Halloween Party, Christmas Bash (Christmas Party) and Easter Dash (Easter Party, which never was held with the absense of Kayleigh).
So, it's about time the idea came in again. For a major activity boost, we usually send invitations. The Get-together is a partly member-managed and a partly Administration Representative-managed event. Invitations are mass mailed or PMed to people. PMing people invitations to the Get-Together is usually a PM Group or PM cluster. And those people are especially needed for Get-Togethers.
This is an especially social event! It was when everyone on the boards actually participated at something. And no, it wasn't so formal that you had to talk like I am right now (with the correct punctuation and grammar). But it was the only day where Other Chat would have a bunch of stickies (or one in the case of the first three get-togethers) and you got to post in them (most topics didn't belong in other chat and got moved out when the whole get-together ended).
So, we need a bunch of events, and assistance. However, it's up to all you members to talk about the Get-Together, tell what you want, and it'll be passed on to the staff for approval before it becomes an official community event (like the rest). I concede, usually this stuff passes through the staff, but in the past it was unreliable. So, it's up to you members to say what you want. Do you want events? How long should it be?
The events!
Of course, there's always a suggestion for events. What events should be in the Get-Together if we have them? Here's what I suggest.
- Singing Contest - The original community singing contest, where you would be judged by a single person (me, in the original contest). First, you'd have to post your entries in the number of days the get-together would last for. Then, when it's judging time, I'd listen to your entries and give comments, and then pick the best one. The original was the most effective (and the one recently canceled definitely wasn't).
- Chain Story - A chain story, script form or story form, where we type up a story and it is replied to with additions to the story. You know what a chain story is, it's a story which you write up a continuation from the previous post!
- Art Contest - Art festival where we all post art. It's a contest which the art gets rated! A judge is required, and a topic should be discussed.
- Avatar/Profile Picture Contest - Post an avatar or profile picture (attach it) and have it rated as the best (one judge or more required). The topic? That's what we have to work out here.
- Signature Contest - Attach screenshots of your signatures and get them rated (requires at least one judge). The topic? That's what we have to work out here.
Timeframe
How long should this year's last?
- 1 week! - It allows time for event playing and judging, plus, a giant chat.
Judges and Contest Topics
We need to work out judges, and the topics for contests for the following contests:
- Art Contest (There may be requirements for judges taking the art contest)
- Avatar/Profile Picture Contest
- Signature Contest
