basically this is for people who get confused and are new to spriting, this is sorta a more pokemon style focused, illistrated version of AHD's thread

:claps:
It does annoy me to see a bltant recolor being shoved in our faces as a re/devamp.

exaclty, although according to AHD they're the same thing ¬.¬

AHD is right partly
cause you recolour an old sprite to make it look new XD
but nice I should do one of these things sometime

no, you normally take away the previous sprite, stripping it to the outline, then add a base colour and shade from there

That's still a recolor, now an EDIT thats when you change the anatomy, add on parts, etc.

Revamping and devamping are types of recoloring, since you're changing the sprites colors.

since when did recolouring involve changing/editing shading?...NEVER
Act

No, true Revamping is called 'frankensteining'. It's reducing the sprite to the bare bones and literlly putting every pixel back anew.
FoxHound!
September 7th, 2005, 08:57 PM
exactly, frankensteining isn't recolouring

Of course not,If revamps were recolors, then people would have BIG problems shading,or even making any decent sprites, even if its stupid triangles. So TRUE revamps are NOT recolors.

Act is right, I believe. ^^ If you simply recolor an older sprite with newer colors, that is a recolor. However, if you completely erase all shading, and re-shade with newer/older colors, then it's considered a revamp/devamp.
Jarman: I think your idea of revamps/devamps is a little off. :\ That mindset is what Act was talking about in his earlier post. [People trying to pass off recolors as revamps/devamps]

the thing is, pixeltendo ban recolours, but they let you revamp and post it down there

Every forum should ban recolors, never knew that though, but good rule. But as Fuzz said,re-shading an old sprite is a revamp, not recoloring.

I think I would dance a little jig if PC ever banned recolors. That would solve a big piece of the puzzle I will never understand: recolors and fusions getting more attention than quality scratch sprites.

I admit i make fusions, but i still prefer making customs, its much better.I think i would also dance if PC banned recolors. It would help make people improve,by having them resorting to other things.

exactly, most people here never come off the bloomin recolours

Meh, I always get Frankensteining and Recoloring messed up.
And if recolors and fusions were banned here, only about 5 people would still be able to post sprites. Which would be awesome.

I wouldnt say 5,but it wouldnt be big either.Due to stupid calculations i made, only 1.79% of the PC members can do custom sprites.

LOL. 1.79%??? How did you figure that out? Even that number seems high though. 1.79% of the regular posters in HotS maybe...hmph...
