What I just think is that it terrible for what happened. Something was exepected but not this. It has effected America everywhere. With the gas prices increasing , funds , relif efforts. People have to rebulid their homes. All they worked for their lives. I hope all will work out. We just have to wait and see..XD

People up north just don't get. We go on with our daily lives, complain about gas, go to work, chat with friends, and think that we have any idea of what it's like for those people in lousianna...
You guys, it's literally Hell on earth down there...here, HERE in the United States! The strongest, richest country in the world, and our fellow citizens are experiencing things that those in Iraq and the middle east pray they NEVER have to experience!
It's just, horrible.

Well, there’s already been half a million deaths, and billions and billions of dollars lost. Here in Louisiana, we get multiple hurricanes on a yearly basis so there no big deal to us. ;/ It’s depressing though, you can’t turn on the TV or radio without seeing something on Katrina, and now they want to tare down the super dome. Today they closed off an entire parish, the water is still 3ft deep there and it’s been contaminated because of an oil refinery that was near by; it also was torn apart from the storm, they showed on the news that rescuers had to tie dead bodies to stop signs to separate them from living survivors.

From the old thread (No way I'm rewriting all of that)
I dont want to get in the middle of all this Bush business. After all, my parents didn't vote for him.
I feel sooo bad for the victims. If I was without electricity for two months, I wouldn't go to school and I would probably go into depression without the internet, my laptop and Clair.
btw, if you go on google maps and go to the New Orleans, you can see the before and after effect on the city. It's freaky!

Facts from today's news:
-water in the entire New Orleans area is found to have 100x more bacteria and other deadly diseases in comparison to drinking water. Experts suspect that even when New Orleans is dried and its water pumped out, New Orleans may lack a source of drinking water in the future due to the hurricane's contamination.
Meaning... this maybe (MAYBE, not certain) a permanent damage to New Orleans to the point that it's not fit for living anymore if this assuming is correct. Without a clean water supply, there maybe no point in rebuilding it for the future...
Pray that this isn't true =(

Wow, tch, tha flame wars won an' got tha thread locked... yay. -_- [/sarcasm]
Permanent? Nah, tch, they'll just start pumpin' water out from other places. An' I'm sure it won't be permanent. Tch, nature has a way of purifying its own resources. I'm sure tornadoes have flooded it many times before, tch, an' I'm sure nature managed ta filter it all up. ^^
I dunno anything about Kayne West, tch, but after also seein' a locked thread on this(well now, aren't they many these days? o_o;;) I'm glad I don't know. ^^;;

Did everyone hear about Waveland Alabama? That place got knocked off the map ._. it's literally uninhabitable. Poor people of waveland...there was not a home standing...
btw, I'm in Florida and there are some people from New Orleans in our high school...I wonder if they let them in for free or what o_o
P.S: Kayne West doesn't curse? rofl...

It probably is though, even once it's all pumped out the residue is going to cause a lot of problems. Aside from that, all the rebuilding is going to take a long time to get done. I've been hearing some people say that it could take up to three years to get the city back to the state it was in before the hurricane hit. I don't doubt it at this point, there's a lot more than just water that needs to be dealt with.
C_F_G - The problem with this is that it isn't any old storm or flood. There are germs from dead bodies of both human and animals floating around. There's sewage from all the busted mains and pipes, mix all those things together and you have a big problem on your hands.

The death toll from the hurricane itself is around 500-700. The death toll from all the aftermath is estimated to be around 15,000.

Actually, the rebuild process (assuming that they can recover a clean water supply for the New-New Orleans) should be done by next year. The government estimated that 3 months of time is necessary to pump the water. Another 3 months will be needed to dry the ground, then they're ready for mass destruction then construction.
However, this number is probably far off from the truth. First, the government have to deal with the martial law status in New Orleans (and any other affected area) along with the extreme robbery in the area. There are organized groups who are diving in there to hunt for goodies, so they have to be stopped first. That may delay everything for quite awhile, and there maybe other problems.
Some escapees are returning to New Orleans and are refusing to leave, afraid that their flooded property will be stripped of all signs of money. Yes... some people do believe that by sitting on a rock with no food, no water, no clothes and no warmth without any weapon in hand can prevent their house from being robbed until the entire city is rebuilt.
Pray that these people will realize how fortunate they are to even escape the flood, and that financial lost is nothing compare to their personal safety...

it wouldnt have been so bad if they would not have torn down the forest in between the main part of new orleans and the ocean.. it blocked wind damage and also some water coming in but they tore it all down and developed another suburb.. trees = less water= less water preasure= no levi break
Frostweaver

Doubt that trees can withstand a hurricane to be this strong. This is the strongest hurricane that struck America. Trees or no trees, the levi will fall either way because it's simply not meant to face something that has nothing happened before.
Latest news from Canada 1:00 AM:
"A new hurricane 'Ophelia' is currently 110km away from Florida. It's wind speed just classified itself as a hurricane. As of what we know right now, the course of Ophelia is unpredictable, but it is bringing heavy downpours to the coastal areas of Florida already. It is possible that the hurricane will head towards Louisana again, but all of this is just spectulations and assumptions."
Fellow friends of PC in Florida be sure to pay attention to the upcoming storm. It may hit Florida again in the upcoming future.

A levee is more or less just a really strong flood wall built around the the ares of the city that are most prone to going underwater.
I can see why people are going back and not wanting to leave again. They have their entire life there, everything they've ever known is there and they probably lost it all within a matter of hours. Sure you can say they should be lucky that they got out with their life, but when it actually happens to you it isn't something you can just get over with that fast.
And the other hurricanes all died I think, each one got to like...cat 1 then they just lost power.

It's not that simple... as an adult, your work 8 hours a day (or more) for many years in order to finally get enough for the house. It's a symbol of your hard work and the paid off for the work.
Wrong about the assets. It's just entirely gone. The water flooded the city, and at the peak it is calculated to be 3m high, covering almost all 2 stories buildings. All of this happen within one hour of time. You can imagine the extensive damage from the math alone. There is absolutely no food and no water there. All the people must leave for their safety.
The silly thing is that the government declared an immediate evauation (finally) of New Orleans. All citizens have a week of time before they must leave.
Sounds good on theory, but the numbers are all silly. You know that those people will stay as long as possible there. So... 1 week without food or clean water that is safe to drink... that's a bit over far too much time? No time for pity at your loss in comparison to your health, honestly.
