With Sunday marking the 4th anniversary of 9/11, I'm just curious as to where you were and what were you doing when you heard the horrible news of that fateful day.

For me, I was at home recovering from a cold...just as my mom got back from taking my younger sister to school, my dad called her from work and told her "Turn on the TV! Turn on the TV!" We watched, stunned, as the carnage unfolded.

After watching the towers fall ad nauseum, I hurried to my room, tuned my radio to the public radio station, and left it there...relaying updates via e-mail to my dad whenever they broke, since he didn't have TV nor radio at work.

I remember exactly what I was doing at that moment, actually. I was just in the heat of a game on my computer, and my mom got mad at me, saying I couldn't care what happened in the world, as long as I could play my games ...

Needless to say, I do care. It's a terrible thing what happened back then, and this Sunday my thoughts will be with those who lost loved ones there just as good as my mom's.

I was in my science room, ironically looking in the direction of the twin towers to see if I could see them. But this was my middle school and it was far from the bay, pretty inland but you still could see the the northernmost bridge that led to NJ.
Sadly, I didn't have cable so when the WTC went down, so did my obsession with Pokemon T_T
So it's the terrorists' fault I stopped liking Pokemon at age 12 ^_^

Hmm...as I recall I was having a bit to eat before going to bed when I saw it on TV. First we thought it was some kind of lousy attempt at a joke-program, but obviously that wasn't the case.

I was in Math Class then the Assistant Principal walked in with the news. Then an announcement was made 5 minutes later on the loudspeaker.

I was at home, myself...just doing whatever it was that I tended to do in the mornings around that time. I didn't know anything was up until my dad called and told me to "Turn on the news, a plane crashed into the White House!"

...And since that was quite a bit of news in itself, I turn on the tv...just in time to watch footage of the second tower falling. :/ Sigh.

On my way home around 10am I think, I went into a store and heard some guy freaking out over the radio and I asked the store clerk what happened and that's about it.

Lucky you. I was at the store shopping and some crazy guy said NY's in trouble. Everyone thought that he was joking so nobody cared. But then every channel had that news. OMFG I said. Those poor people in there. Nobody survived that crash.

Curse you Bin Laden!!>_<

Well...it was in fourth grade..i'm not sure what exact class it was but I remember a teacher coming in with news of the attack, my teacher , Ms. Bonner was her name, turned on her radio and tried to tune into any channel with something about the attacks..it was in the start of the day...around 8:40 where the news came..anyway the whole class went to the window(It was the third floor of my(former) school, which is pretty high), and we saw as the towers collapsed. Back then I didn't know much about terrorism..and I thought it was a big joke..but thousands of people died...my mom was lucky..she didn't work far from the WTC...and she had to walk home all the way from Manhatten..some time after me and my mom went to see the list of all the people who died..my brothers name was up there...but he was of course at home...he was only fifteen then..anyway on that day I went home early, because my dad picked me up...and that's all I've got to say.

I was in seventh grade science class. One of the eighth graders at my old school was in the computer lab, when he found out what happened from some news website. He then ran around to every room in school saying that an airplane had crashed into the World Trade Center. He was known for being a jokester, so at first nobody believed him, and nearly got suspended for disrupting classes, until the school principal found out that it was true, and let him go.

I was... sleeping. Really! I lived on an US air base in Japan at the time, so I didn't know they were destroyed until I woke up, which was awhile after they were destroyed because of the time diffrence. ^^;
I was so afraid when my stepdad came into our room and told us that school was cancelled because they attacked the US. I wanted to hide under my bed. School was cancelled for two or three days (I forgot), because the base was under lockdown. And the day we did go to school, we talked about it in a few classes. They had tanks near the gates for awhile too. It was kinda scary, being across the street from a tank, with a guy on top near a big gun.
Almost all of the 5 English channels we got were just coverage that morning, and some of the Japanese channels had it too.

Meh, I was in 3rd grade celebrating a girl's birthday. Then, one by one, people started getting picked up. I was the last one to get picked up.

I didn't know what happend till 4 days later that day. But I wasn't really worried during those 4 days. I was pretty scared until my mom told me because my dad was in New York during the crash. He wasn't in the plane though, but he told me he saw it happen.

I was in my 8th grade English class when I found out what had happened. But that class was after lunch... my school waited until then to tell us the news. Most of us knew something really bad had happened since everyone seemed to be on edge, but the teachers and administrators refused to tell us anything. It was extremely scary to us since we're so close to NYC...

As soon as we found out about the tragedy, I remember one girl in my class getting really scared. Her father was on a plane that same day and she was terrified that he was on one of those planes. Luckily, he wasn't. I think only one member of my town died during the events of that day, and now my town has a foundation in honor of him.

I was in class, looking out the window, at the towers, as it was happening. We're not really that far from it, so we had a clear view of everything. The class was boring, so I stared looking around as usual. And then I saw a crap load of smoke coming from one of the towers. And I told the whole class. And then the second plane hit. And we saw they collapsed.

i was at home getting ready for school when it happened (or i was about to wake up, one of those two). as soon as i got to school my friend started freaking out and telling me what had happened. i was really confused, i thought he was talking about the trans-america building (the pyramid shaped building in SF which is less than an hour from where i live). then i went to first period math where my teacher had the news on...

Wow... I remember this day like it was yesterday...

I was in 7th grade.. and during my science class (the begining) my teacher came up to me and said "Your mom said your dad's okay" (This was before my mom passed away and was working in the school library, and when my dad was working at the towers.. on like the 80-something floor (he was late to work that day, so he wasn't in the buildings)) and my friend looked to me, and was like "What was that about".. and I was clueless to what the teacher had meant. Then about a second after that the announcement came on about the towers and I almost fainted.. even though I knew my dad was alright.. I didn't know about the countless amount of people I knew from that building that could be killed (counting all the awesome locksmiths there.. from when my dad used to be a locksmith there.. when I was like 5 o.o). And every class from science on we watched the news...

The thing that helped piss me off that day (because I was a raging <bleep> that day because of the attacks) was the fact that the elementery school did not tell my younger sister that my dad was fine, so she had to go a whole day not knowing if our dad was okay...

But yeah.. it's a sad thing... and it saddens me because my dad still works there (he's like one of the big guys at Ground Zero.. he's like met lots of important people and stuff), and he's taken me into the hole.. and we drove around.. to one part where you can still get into part of the parking/loading dock places (I think that's what it is).. and I can clearly remember walking through there when the towers were intact(which was many times from around age like 6 to like 12)...

Heh...September 11th. I remember that day.

I was...what, in 3rd Grade at the time. Learning. About cursive. Then, the next day, my teachers were spazzing and my class mates were talking about it everywhere. Me, on the other hand, had no idea what the hell was going on. I never did.

People told me to watch the news when I get home...I did. And I laughed and said, "COOL!". My Mom stared at me and called me crazy. o_o; Heh...heh. I was such a foolish child then. I even remeber building lego towers and ramming my lil' brothers plane into it. To this day, the whole Twin Towers incident still doesn't bother me alot...not sure as to why. Guess 'apathetic' really does describe me. =\

Hmm... I was sleeping, when I turned on the TV to watch Pokemon, to see a news report showing all this footage of what had happened.

Later on I went to school and everyone was talking about what happened. Later on that night we were going to have a school disco and everyone thought that an airplane was going to smash into it (stupid I know... but that was how my class mates thought back then) We all wanted to watch the report but the teachers wouldn't let us. ;___; But hey, so I was mostly at school and at home on that day.

I was in 4th grade, and they announced a plane crashed into the world trade centers. I had no clue what that meant, and thought it was just like, and Air port or something. everyone strted getting picked up early, including me. We got a big screen TV that day, and the exact time my family turned it on, they were showing the plane hitting the first tower..

I will NEVER forget that moment. I was sitting in the front of my math class when my teacher came in with a lifeless expression on his face. He got into the front of the room and said "A plane has just flown into the World Trade Center" Now I was in 6th grade so I obviously wasn't that aware of the seriousness of the situation. Then I remeber him taking us into the World History room and half of the school being in that one room, the tv was on. When I saw the images being shown, and peoples reactions. It was then my world stopped and I realized just how serious this was.

I was in my ninth grade typing class...my teacher walked out to see if she could borrow another teacher's radio. She brought a radio into the classroom and turned it on to the news station. I heard all about it, but being the apathetic bad boy I was, I really didn't care about it until I saw video news coverage on it later that night.

I'm such an apathetic bad boy...

Well, I was in class when I found out about it. We were watching a video in science class about the ape lady. When you turned the video player off NBC comes on. We saw the breaking news, and the teacher was sure it was a movie or something. I went about the next two hours, and my mom came to get me because we had family that worked in the Pentagon. My uncle who hadn't left and my cousins-in-laws mother who had sprained her ankle running out of the building. I was at home watching TV all day.

Hmm, this is a neat thread.

I was a freshman in high school, and I had just completed my World History homework when the bell sounded to change classes. After that, I walked down the hall noticing people with shocked looks painted across their faces. It was then, when I walked into my Theatre class, that I first heard news of it on the radio that was playing at the time. Stunned, I looked on my teacher's computer at the pictures that were displayed. A nightmare, I thought. How could this be? I asked my teacher if I could go to the bathroom, which she granted my wish. Secretly, I didn't go there, but to my relative's classroom, as she teaches at my school. I hugged her, and started sobbing. It was a horrible, horrific way to start the day.

You were in third grade at the time--I would have been the exact same way at such an age, I believe. It's not a bad thing, it's just people around that age don't really...care about things like that. o_O I know my brother didn't and he was a little younger than that.

Anyway, I was in sixth grade at the time and I had no one to eat lunch with at school that day so I walked with my friend to her house since she always went home for lunch. We managed to completely avoid TV and radios the whole lunch hour and when we got back, everyone was spazzing about it. XP We watched a few footage clips on the internet in class after that and had this long discussion about it. I remember liking it because we were missing Social Studies or something...which would have been in French. And I hated the language at the time. XD;

But yeah, it sunk in that night when my parents were watching the news where it showed everything over and over again. ._.;

Muwahahaha...*cough*

I was in 6th grade I believe. I saw it on TV when I woke up. I thought it was a movie, a boring movie at that. I didn't even know the word "terrorist" until one hour later when I got to school.
