Charity truly annoying
Delone students playing Hanson's "MMMBop" until $3,000 is raised

Kids at Delone Catholic High School know the fastest way to raise money.
Annoy people until they open their wallets - or start singing along.
The sound of Hanson's 1996 hit "MMMBop" will play in Delone's hallways, classrooms and cafeteria until $3,000 is raised for hurricane victims.
"Let's annoy the money out of people," said Maria Landi, vice-president of student council.
And what better way than by constantly playing a song that has grated on people's nerves for 13 years?
The idea is that students and teachers will donate money to "Stop the Bop."
And it's working.
The fundraiser began Wednesday and students have already raised $746.46
Student council representatives learned about the "Stop the Bop" fundraiser at a leadership seminar. It was listed among several other fundraising ideas.
"We were going to do it anyway," said Meredith Cox, student council president. "But the most need is now."
If each of the 659 students donates $5, the school will meet its goal.
"MMMBop" is played before school, between classes, during lunch periods and after school.
Cox said she's not concerned about raising money.
"People can give their extra lunch money," Cox said. "One kid said he'd write a blank check to stop it."
Landi admitted that some students are not pleased with the council.
"There are mixed emotions," she said. "People are mad at us."
Justin Elswick said the music is annoying and unnecessary. He plans to donate to stop the music.
"They could have just asked for the money," said Elswick, a sophomore.
But that wouldn't be nearly as much fun.
Principal Maureen Thiec said people are singing along and dancing to the music in the hallways.
She said the incessant music is annoying, but helping hurricane victims is important.
"I think it's our mission," Thiec said. "When we talk about social justice issues, one of those issues is providing for those in need."
The high school also plans to collect donations at football games. All money will be given to Catholic Charities to help Katrina victims.
Now, it's nice that they want to help the hurricane victims, but WHY GOD WHY WITH THE MMMBOP? If you've never heard that song, look for an mp3 of it and you'll see what I mean. My god, I would never be able to take that continuously...
So, discuss. or something.
EDIT: So everyone can hear the true horror of Mmmbop, I've made a low-quality clip of the chorus. It's attached below.
