My Cat and my Gerbils

My cat got stuck in a tree today and we had to climb a ladder to get her down.

And I came home and my gerbils were eating their new bedding! Can you explain my gerbils' behavior? 0.o

NOTE: HAMPSTERS are the ones that stuff their cheeks. *just making sure* XD
