Yo yo peeps :3

There's the new hurricane Rita that is suppoused to be hitting the Galveston area of Texas.

Meteorologists are thinking that this hurricane may be almost as bad as Katrina. But then again, what do they know? They're always wrong lol.

Anyway, just discuss here what you guys think. And then I'll let you know, as a live Houston resident, if Rita turns out bad. :3

Good thing is that so many schools are being closed.

Bad thing is that everybody's now rushing to stores to grab anything they need. lol.

Right now I'm probably gonna go stay with my uncle, so yeah. Wish us Texas peeps luck <3

EDIT: Whoops, forgot to put the poll. lol

Some people are saying it'll hit Houston.

That is ridiculous, however. Houston sits on high land and it's a lot farther inland than New Orleans was. If Rita hits Galveston, the cap farthest it'll go is Texas City or League City.

This thing can't be anywhere near as bad as Katrina, it's only at cat 1 at the moment and it's only expected to raise to cat 3.

I've got my brother around there though so I hope he'll be okay~

F5s are very rare cases. Indeed it is doubtful that it will be anywhere near as powerful as Katrina was. Nevertheless, a hurricane's destruction depends mostly on the path it chooses, tch, so it really varies. Yes, if it chooses a path where there are many inhabittants it could cause more damage than Katrina did, tch, but I honestly doubt it'll cause too many victims, since ppl are already on alert as a result of Katrina's devastating force.

*rechecks news* Dang...that's gonna hit my brother's place o_o;

Wow, it's been like 40 years since a cat 5 hit land in American before Katrina, two of them in one year and so close is just crazy. This could very well end up as strong if not stronger than Katrina actually. It's already at cat 5 so that's just as bad.

I live in Texas, but in the eastern part of it so I'll most likely only get rain here... I was just in Galveston a few weeks ago, though, and it's a shame that it's right in the path of Rita. I especially feel sorry for all of the people there from Louisinia who will now have to go through the whole evacuation process again. From what I've heard on the news, this storm sounds like it will be just as strong as Katrina!

From what I heard it's now a category 6, I heard from my mom since she works at Maersk and communicates with the other Maersk Company at Houston, they had to evacuate the whole company in Houston because of this hurricane.

It's actually quite comparable to Katrina right now. It's a cat 5 with 165 mph winds. There's no such thing as a cat 6, Kratos. >.<
Bye, Jeremy, hope you keep safe!

Kratos
September 22nd, 2005, 02:20 AM
Yes there is such a thing as cat 6 but every cat 6 that has ever happened has never reached land before this would be the first. Why do you argue when I can prove you wrong?

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/aboutsshs.shtml
There are only Cat. 1-5. That's the Saffir Simpson Hurricane Scale. There is no such thing as a Category 6 hurricane. Cat 1: 74-95mph, Cat 2: 96-110mph, Cat 3: 111-130mph, Cat 4: 131-155mph, Cat 5: 156+ mph

They say Rita's going to weaken to Cat 4 before landfall. That's still about as strong as Katrina was before landfall. =/

My question is despite the fact that it could still be considered late hurricane season, I am wondering why are these hurricanes happenining one after another. I now am nervous how many hurricanes there will be this year.Global warming, it causes the waters out at sea to heat up and that's the main driving force of a hurricane; hot water.

Yeah now try and say there's no such thing as global warming.

Rita wasn't as bad here in Florida as Karina was but it will be as it was mentioned all over the news on Texas. We just got a day off on Tuesday for all Miami Dade and Broward counties, and mostly a full day of raining, luckly my house nothing happened. All that happened here was rain showers, but when Katrina hit us, we lost power for a week. And we got about like 6 inches of flood around in broward. What I did hate were the high gas prices which I payed $40 to fill almost a full tank, and now it seems the same thing is going tohappen.
What these hurricanes bring to FLorida, which me and all my pals are happy about the day before are the waves, on Katrina we got from 9 to 15 feet waves which never happens, and with Rita it was up to 11 but pure plain since we couldn't surf. We had these local police or w/e come to us and said it wasn't safe to surf, and we ignored them, then a while after a truck coems to us sayig he's towing our cars and we all ran to it.
I guess I'm used to all these hurricanes, I had Ivan, Frances, and Charlie i think last year... and i got mad since my homecoming got postponed cause of it.

It's only a matter of time when the hurricane hits....which I live in Texas;Hey,did ya heard about there was a bus that blow up?Oh god,I heard 20 people died on it!Today me and my sister had to go somewhere which we had to go on the Highway!Every single time there was triffic, and we saw a whole lot of cars at the side of some highways we were on!Dang, this year is just so crazy, first there was the war,Katrina,Gas,NOW THERES A SISTER OF KATRINA?!

I know that it lowered to Category 3(I know it because I've been watching the Weather Channel all day) and it's going to have a direct hit on Port Arthur, Texas. Poor people there, they're right in the middle of it. :(

Dee Trier
September 24th, 2005, 07:39 AM
I hope it not as big as katrina.
Btw why a hurrican was named with good name??

AnzRayquazaX
September 24th, 2005, 07:43 AM
The names are automatically picked from the beginning of the hurricane season. For example: Let's say Hurricane Dan just faded and then a Tropical Depression forms. Then the tropical depression strengthens and then it becomes a tropical storm. If Dan was used already, then they would go to the next name on the list. If it's Ethan, then they'll call the tropical storm Tropical Storn Ethan.

That's how the names work.

I'm back now lol

H-town got lucky. It didn't got hit straight on, it was suppoused to hit us though. We dodged a bullet lol

I pretty much took my valuables with me to my uncle's home. The "hurricane" hit around Saturday around midnight.

All we got was hard winds, and rain. No fatalities so far. The roof tiles in my apartments were blown off, and a tree got ripped apart.

It was crazy on Thursday though. Gas ran out really quickly, and all Kroger, HEB, and Randalls stores ran out of food. I spent two hours on traffic on what was suppoused to be a quick ten minute drive to my uncle's.

I got freaked out really, I was pretty scared that we'd all get the same thing as those poor Katrina victims. I sure as hell didn't fancy the idea of moving to a shelter.

Anyway, at my uncle's I just spent nice time with my cousins and stayed with them for three nights lol. Our power went out for a couple of hours, not much. I've had the TV and radio on for updates. And yes, I got so freaked out when it went up to category 5. lol We had to board up our windows and duct tape them.

I'm counting my blessings, man. H-town's freakin lucky to not get hit by that hurricane.

Oh, and btw, please listen to Akio123 guys. :3 This was a pretty serious matter, and most of us people got scared especially about what happened with Katrina. Let's not make jokes about this pretty please >>;

Well we did have warnings from Sylvia Browne, some kind of psychic. She predicted this like 2 yrs ago. Becuase of the polar tilt we just had, and global warming, we're gonna have very strong tropical storms.

She says california will have volcano eruptions. Since I'm in idaho, I'd probably get the ash, I don't think I'm that close to get lava. Ash can be just as bad though, with the weight making roofs collaspe. I guess that means I'd need to sweep the roof off regulary. California already had a small earthquake.

The only worst thing that can happen is Yellow Stone park erupting, that one would be a super eruption, it'd make ash cover the whole north hemisphere.

Good thing the people of Texas was smart to evacuate, even though those routes and highways were JAMMED. Rita was kinda weird, it became a category 3? I didn't watch the news yet, but is there another hurricane in the line forming? Or is this the last?
