I'm not sure if there's a thread about this already, so I'm sorry if there is and I'm just wasting my net time (I'm at my local library since dad cut off the net... again) Anyway, i'm a Hoennshipping supporter and i just wanted to know what others thought about the pairing of Brendan and May. Whether they like it or not, i wanna know why they don't or do, and if anyone else thinks Brendan should have appeared in the anime and been paired with May and if anyone doesn't say why!

I'll try to make a stab at this.

It's funny in the anime, as both made an appearance (Brendan had a cameo in the 6th movie) but May is more prominent and thus more characterization but overall, I think May would be focused on the smaller issues whereas Brendan could be larger than life (heck, look at his Pokemon, he has some sort of an image, May is getting there, but she needs time to get there). So not enough to say.

Games, I think the two are more even, and could play on that childhood "we're best friends" theme and the sexual tension with the competition by beating the best. Plus the family angle and saying "that's sweet". So I think that could play out nicely. I think that is the best shot for the pairing and I can dig that more. Conversely, Kenta/Marina kinda went on their own way, and didn't have that connection that Brendan/May have.

I'd say more on Special, where the two are fully characterizated but I have to get access and read the summaries first.

My -2 cents.

Hm... Hoennshipping eh? Well, like Dark Wheezing said, the games and the anime are much different, so I have differeing opinions there. ^^

In the games, I think May and Brendan make a good pair. I never really cared for Brendan's rival skills in the game though (I played as May). He just sort of dissappears after a while, and Wally's the one you have to defeat before the Elite 4 (if I remember right, haven't played my Ruby game in a while ^^;). As I played through the game I kinda felt that Brendan wasn't the snotty, rude rivals of the other games but actually was more like a friend to May. So yeah, I think it could most certainly work there.

In the anime... there really is no Brendan. There's no May moving to a new town, there's no starting out with Brendan, and there's not even a mention of him beyond the ones you already stated. Do I think he should have been included? Yes. I think they should have included Wally as well. However, because May decided to be a Coordinator instead of a trainer, the same rivalry wouldn't be there. Brendan doesn't look like the kind that does contests. ^^; Wally might, but he wanted to be a trainer.

I think it's pretty lame that the pokemon producers bring in May and don't bring in the other main characters from R/S at least as once in a while cameos. It would give Ash perhaps another Richie-like person to strive to beat. And maybe a rival besides the odd-looking Masamune (was that his name...? XD). Not to mention, it would give a chance to be a bit more like the games, something I think many of the pokemon fans find a bit frustrating....

Discussions on the Pokemon shippings go in the Pokemon TV Shows & Movies section. :33 I'm not too sure on the policies of that forum, but I'll just send this thread there and it can be delt with by the moderators of that forum. :33
