I'm not entirely sure this is in the right forum, but I had no idea where to put it.

I am a spriter who uses MSPaint. Whenever I save my sprites on my pc, I'm given the options of saving the sprite as:
Monochrome Bitmap
16 color bitmap
256 color bitmap
24 bit bitmap

What I really want to do is save my sprites as gif or png images for easier uploading onto a webhost. Does anyone know how I can do this? Thanks!

Right after the name,if you clicked "save as",put .gif for example

aftermath.gif
aftermath.png

thats how i usually do it

No, unless Paint gives you the option to save as one of those formats, merely adding the extension won't work. It will appear to have the correct extension, but it won't be compressed, thus defeating the purpose of saving it under that extension. Paint can be a real jerk on some computers.

As for the question, I'm not sure, but there's probably a program out there that can convert BMPs to other formats. I used to have this problem, and I think I found some that were able to convert to JPG, so I assume there exists similar programs. I would try Google.

If you have ACDSee you can convert it there.

I found several programs while on Google that you can d/l to do it, but they are all on a trial basis. Oh well. They work, and that's a good thing.

Actualy since you use paint they do have that basis, there are attachments you should be abile to download for it^^; My brother does icons and sprites all the time with it and gifs are the original basis place for Sprites.
And for other ways to do pixel art or to just get that extention. Have you googled GIMP ? gimp is a great program and you can do it in every extention avalible.

If you use paint, you will need to use the funtion File->Save As
To do that, and get a good result, you need to minimize the screen, as much as possible. Or save it as you do, then File -> Open, when it opens, go File->Save As, and you should have options there.
