Why did Netendo ban the very painful episode "electric porygon hero"?First, america should see the cartoon before making a decison to ban it. Second, how will japan know if we are going to have these seizures while watching the program. And finally, why don't Japan cut out the big 5 second seizure part in the cartoon. well, thats all I have to say.

1) they banned it because it caused the seizures. Duh O____o

2) They didn't want to show it in the U.S. It would've been stupid because their are way more kids who watch Pokemon in the U.S and they didn't want to take such a big risk so they just banned it everywhere.

3) They don't know, but its too much of a risk to take. If it caused seizure for more then 700 kids in Japan, then it probably would've had the same effect on American kids.

4) I don't know why they didn't cut it out. Then again, if you watch the whole ep, you would notice that its pretty bright through the whole thing..

5) this doesn't belong here. It belong in the Pokemon Anime section.

This should be in Pokmon TV Show and Movies or the Anime Section said above.

I rebember watching 5 minutes of the episode. People take it very seriously.

America does not have to see it to decice if it's banned all the time. It's Japan's work so it's decision.

People in Asia got seizures, so what is the difference in America.

Pokemon also got banned because of it. Luckly, it just got banned for 4 months.

The whole eisopde had bright colors, not only the seizure part. The opening theme had to be redone also. It would not make much of a difference is it the flashing light was taken out. Still would be banned. ;X

Wait, why did the opening theme have to be redone? I have the ep and it doesn't look different to me o_____O

Also it was never banned, it was just put on haitus (I guess you can consider it a ban but meh O__<)

It was all precautions, just as they yanked the show to tone down their lighting. And as for would they ever dub it? No, both Nintendo and Kids WB state that they want to go with the newer material, so to go dub an episode from so far away, 7 seasons, isn't in their best interest. Maybe once the series ends, possibly but given the tabooness, highly doubt it.

Besides, omitting it doesn't effect the plot much. You see the Rockets control a Porygon. Whee.

You notice that banned episodes are all fillers. The first one, Beauty and the Beach was more fluke with the Obaba sisters if anything. Anyway, it's hubris.

And I think enough has been said on this issue. But I'll leave it open for a few more days for some more mulling and then lock or let it die by itself, whichever.

Ah, but you seem to be forgetting the Warden and Safari Zone one when Ash caught all those Tauros. Back when Professor Oak said they were all his in the dub, it confused me, and probably a whole lotta others, to no end.

(That is, until I got to save and watch the Safari Zone eppy myself X3)

I didn't forget but it's not a major plot point at all. It's like the AG episodes: the episode is 90% filler and then they sneak in a capture or an evo and suddenly we have to praise it as plot? Please. Besides, if the Tauros were so important, why didn't Ash use them right away as he got them? They were just like Brock's Tauros: which we never saw again nor any reference to this. That was no doubt a factor in 4Kids' decision to omit the episode because the Tauros weren't refered until much later on, so no big loss by the omission. If it was so critical, yeah, they might have let it in. So yeah, based on what I said, I consider the Safari Zone one a filler.

A nice filler but a filler. But yeah, thanks for the reminder though. I tend to forget that episode because...it doesn't have much revelence to me as opposed to the others.

Yeah but, unlike Brock, Ash DOES use the Tauros later on. Like in the Orange Island's Championships. So, indeed, they were somewhat part of the plot, even if he didn't use them until later on.

See, even missing one tiny part can cause mass confusion (I bet you wouldn't know where the Tauros ever came from now if you hadn't watched the banned 'filler')

And remember, a filler is when ABSOLUTLY nothing happens to effect the Anime. Well, since Ash ahd used the Tauros again, it effected the Anime so therefor its not a filler.

(Btw, I think Brock and Misty were just catching them for Ash, they didn't actually catch them for themselves)

(And thats another reason why Ash probably has so much of them lol)

This is a bit offtopic butI add my two cents. 'Legend of Dratini' is a filler and the only thing important that happen was Ash and co catching Tauros like crazy. But it is more like a filler. You didn't know about them until that 'Reuinon at the Oak Correl" (something like that) then if you missed that episode then it doesn't matter. The next time you see him/them is the Orange Leauge Champion fight. Not big. I was the same about it too but got over it.

Now the Porygon one. I hate when they ban episodes but it ok here. I would like to see it but they just don't want to take the risk of somebody getting hurt. Then this may also open up old wounds (just like the Shaking Island and Ice Cave one.). Nintendo, 4Kids, KidsWB, and TV Toyko/Japanese/Asain relate companies just don't want to get in trouble. Must be a good filler but I can live with and without.

I would have been happy if they kept it, but again, the return of the Tauros is far after the fact. At that point, 4Kids wasn't sure if they'd get future episodes so omitting a controversial episode for the near future (I don't know where the series was in Japan at that point of the series but I'm thinking 30-50 extra?) would be alright and save a current headache and yep, bit em later. But about the mass confusion, you know that if the dub was smarter, it would have chalked that off and elaborated that to an off camera reference easily (lots of shows do it, because it's the butterfly effect: a butterfly flying over New York means rain in Mongolia, it's just the real time difference as we can only see so much and just have to understand that some events happen in the down time between episodes, event setups during them as well as part of the timeline). Give the audience some credit.

Absolutely? No. Filler can have events that can carry on (writers call these things seeds) but the overall setup of the episode can be meaningless (while this episode is a canon event converted, we don't need to see it that bad, right?), but the continuity carries those seeds on anyway. It's continuity that's driving this issue, not about writing quality. Filler is filler, no matter how many seeds you put in.

Besides, it's also about importance, some issues, like the GLs and the badges and the change in status quo (hence our debate about Space Shuttle Columbia in the first Tate and Liza episode discussion), that has to stay no matter what but having a creature that's kinda sorta used on occasion, the loss isn't so damaging.

Well I see no difference in an episode having a plot and an episode with seeds to tell you the truth =/

Because, in the way you put it, seeds are almost kinda like plot in the episode. And a filler can't have plot put into it, right? Because it- *thinks of Naruto* ....

Ok I think I get most of it now XD

But still..I think that a filler is just a 100% complete filler with nothing at all happens.

But then..Would every episode when they see a new Pokemon not be considered a filler??????????

*dies*

Ok, I guess I can say your HALF right. Because fillers can't really be all filler when Ash or someone else catches a Pokemon and then uses it again.

But then again, your right, we don't know how far they were in the epiosde in Japan when they cut it from America, but I still think they were planning to use them some day..

Yes. If Ash catches a pokemon that he use in the next episode like Snorunt (Spoiler/warning. I going to be ranting when that episode appears) then yes we can't ban it. If it like tauros that he use a million episodes later then no problem. One question: Why catch them if he not going to use them til like in a the next saga?

Let me get this straight:

1. Beauty and the Beach: Banned because of sexuality

2. Legend of Dratini: Banned because Ash has a gun on his head.

3. Electric Soldier Porygon: Banned because 800 people got seizures.

4. Ice Cave: Banned because of Brock's possibility having SARS and sexuality.

5. Whiscash and Ash: Banned because of too many earthquakes.

Whiscash & Ash wasn't the one that was banned. "Shaking Island" is the one you mean. It involves both Barboach and Whiscash on an island. Whiscash & Ash involved a giant Whiscash that takes Ash's badges. Also, "Shaking Island" may have even been banned in Japan because of an earthquake that occured shortly before they were going to show it over there.

That the only episode that has been banned without being showed anywhere. It not even been aired in Japan. The only reason they don't air it becasue they don't want to open up old wounds.

No. The Ice Cave was banned because of the Pokemon Jynx being in the episode. Back then, some crazed soccer mom people thought that Jynx was a rasist Pokemon >.> And because Jynx was in the episode a lot, they just decided to ban the whole thing. Later on though, they changed Jynx's skin color to PURPLE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!!! >_____________>

I remember hearing about that on the news. O.O December 21st 1998 at exactly 6:30 p.m(I think)It's almost the anniversary of that event.

BTW,they banned it because of seizures. They thought the same would happen here in the U.S

I agree, they could have cut out those few seconds of Pikachu's attack, and aired it. But at the time it was going on and suppose to be aired in the USA, it was still such a big deal in Japan that it just never went through and aired here...

Though after that, all the bright, flashy Pokemon attacks were toned down, and slightly darkened after that...hehe.

Since the episode has never been rebroadcast in Japan nor shown ib the Ubited States, they could remake it, minus the effects that caused the siezures. I would like a new Porygon story. And a new one for Jynx. :chu:

I watched the seizure scene, and I didn't get a seizure. I believe the problem is that japanese kids watch TV closer than in the US.

I'm really half tempted to make a banned episode discussion thread. At least then to resolve this issue once and for all.

Hmm...
