Harry Potter - GoF, The New Year

I'm making a Harry potter Game, it's based on the forth book Harry Potter And The Goblet of Fire (GoF), The Games Name is The New Year, you do not play as Harry, or Ron, not even Hermione, you play as a new 1st year named Tro Medlov.

Story:

Ok, The story is basically the Gof Story But, You can change some events in the story by what you do and how you do things.
It also differs from some of the stroy because you don't play as harry or ron. you take lessons, and have breakfeast e.t.c, But a main difference is that your character is ummm. well i can't exactly tell you that it'll ruin everything :P ,
but your character has dreams, dreams that may not be visions but make your character feel fear and anger for Harry. Also you have the ability to become evil and betray people, or be good and keep close to your friends, more of the story unwraps itself as the game carries on. The as you can change events and see different things, you could see moody put Harrys name in the Goblet of Fire, e.t.c, this makes the game more intresting as certain event's make you reveal thing that Harry may not of.

Features:

- An ABS (still working on but i have the basic ideas done)
- An CMS (Still have to work on it a little just to do things like adding the spells in the spells section)
- Options to change the events occuring
- Ability to be able to be Good or Bad
- Ability to duel people walking around if you accept it
- Ability to learn new spells and even the Unforgivable curses !

Btw the Charsets were made by me and the tilesets were off of ummm ... a site named : rmxp (dot) net
I'll be posting the Charsets later when i'm further through the game, Any one can use them if credit it given :D

Thanks for all the comments you guys :D, this is definitaly a game i will finish no matter what lol, i just need to get the main events done then i can add a demo.

spike6958 : i got my tilesets from rmxp (dot) net , as for the character sets, i made them myself, i'll be gald to post um later on in the production :P, just give credit if you use um.

Updates:
Well most of today i've been at school, and i only just got back from bluewater so the only updates i can add are all the floors i did yesterday.
I've finished all eight floors (including basement floors) i may have gotten where things are a bit wrong like the classrooms e.t.c, but the maps are finished and it took awhile to prepare them :P, in the demo, i'd like to know, by people telling me exactly where all the stuff goes like classes e.t.c :D

Working on:
I'm currently working on more mappin and events that are in the story.
I have to sprite hp bars and i have yet to complete a ABS, so all that will been done over the next few days

I'll get screenies of the maps soon, but for now i'll get back to work :D

if you search for harry potter fan websites, some of them have all the locations of the classrooms for each separate year :P

ye the books casually refer to 7th floor or 4th floor before talking about a class that is going to take place. So you would see something like "Harry and friends were discussing what they were gonna do next in History of Magic as they walked down the stairs that lead to the 4th floor."

Thanks for the idea dark dragon, and DD i think in the books it tells you were some classes are but i'm not sure if they telll you where everything is :D

I'll have to have a look, and i will post screenies (first i need to find our how to print a screen showing all the map without it being to small :confused: )

O and before i forget i added, a sign (like on pokemon games) at the top left of the screen, that tells you what floor your on and what lesson you're in :P

I'm now working on the first lesson (which so happend to be defence against the dark arts :P) which means i'm working on the abs, so i may be busy for awhile but i practicaly know how to do it :P apart from like beams, not just little blast u know what i mean?

So once i have my ABS done i can do all the lessons and then ill release a demo, i'll need some beta testers :D, if anyone wants to do it ? just post here or pm me

well you can make a switch ,when you shoot a balst the switch goes on ,and the monster stays still if that switch's on!

Not many updates today, i've sprited all the hero hp bar, its a wand (seems to fit in with it :D i wonder y :P) and i've started to make the hp systen for the ABS, but i still need a way to make the enemy stop when he casts (which what darkdoom says could work) but the hero's on may be different :D

And i've mapped up the Defence Agaisnt The Dark Arts class room.

OK, sorry for the time i've taken to update :P

Now i've been in slow production, since of work on sunday, and i was out all saturday e.t.c, and well diffculties (well thats the only thing i can think to call um) with the ABS, although nothin hard just time consuming :P, also i need a opinion, shoukld i add a stat system like, independence, goodevil e.t.c ? not attack, strength e.t.c ?

Updates:
ABS - It's started off ok :P, i got a basic battle between rats which is simple (also simple cos you only have one spell :P), more spells still need to be added e.t.c

Maps - I've finished all the floors (basically) and i've finished the DADA (Defence Against The Dark Arts) Class room and the 1st part of the test room (basically the partical side of it all :P)

Story - Well as i've said, You change how the story works but heres a huge spoiler ! If you really wish to read it highlight all text after this : However you finish the story, what ever you do you still will get killed, by Voldemort Death eaters, if your good he kills you to prove a point (and to scary other class mates although no one finds out :P), if your evil and you follow him, you get murdered because you fail to kill Harry after he flees from Voldemort.

Heres the "Prize" for winning the test, in this case its a Boggart, which turns into Voldemort ... (but moire on that later :P)

I'm Starting the second lesson now :D, which is Transfiguration (i'll call it Trns for short :P)

You'll learn a basic trns spell which will turn a jewel into a rat !, these rats can be later used with other spells to control there movement :P but more on that later !

Although the spell is helpful at times it could be a trap at others , for example you use the spell with no bait around and then the rat will use you as bait so make sure you cast its at the right time and place :P

I'll have screens soon, with the ABS up a stage i hope :P

New Ideas:
. Possiblly a clothes changing system (possiblly, not sure if its worth while adding :P)
. New mini games to be added
. Jelly beans used as currency (for fred and georges practical jokes or even new spells)
Idea's for mini games:
1. Causing mischief with Fred and George :P
2. Quidditch (training, practice, or maybe even matches)
3. If events work out right you may get an creature (possibly a Dragon :D) So you'll have to look after that, by doing various jobs
4. Dueling, One of the biggest things to do, by winning a duel you earn Fame, which helps people know you and trust you and even talk or duel with you !
5. Dating (This is a BIG maybe :P, you could get together with girls, become friends with them, even Hermione or Ginny (That is if its before the Yule Ball! ))
6. Time challenges like collecting jelly beans within a time limit e.t.c
7. Torturing people with the Cruciatus Curse (Crucio :D, that of course only if your evil)

That about covers the new ideas for now, apart from stats like Fame, Indepence, Good/Evil, Dating (maybe again :D), e.t.c

tanhony: By sprites do you mean the pixel art i did (which was poor) or my charsets? either way i did them both in Graphics Gale (free edition :P of course)

Update: I'm well on track for the demo to be out by christmas :P, i've finished the abs basically, and the first three lessons ! working on the next 2 lessons which are, Care of Magical creatures (with Hagrid) and Potions (with Snape), then i can work on the mini games you can play after lessons, you can play 2 mini games per day or talk to girls, or friends e.t.c. then you have to goto bed and start the next day again :D

Updates:
.Not many, basicaly finished mapping up the grounds where hagrid hut is (the hut im using at the moment will be changed to look more like hagrids hut, but for now it will stay like it it)
.Dating (love mini game thingy :P) is going to be added, you get a choice of a few girls to try and romance, will you choose Hermione, or maybe Ginny or maybe even Chou (or how ever it's spelt :P, of course there will be more girls then that even some custom ones, not actual characters.) More on this later !

Right, Voldemort returns to his true power/form at the end, but the boggart that turns into him, does that for a reason, and i won't tell anyone y :D

Yes he does get dreams about voldemort and harry, varrying depending on your stats e.g. good or bad

Tro Medlov gets sorted into the Gryffindor house, so your Gryffindor ! o and don't argue with snape just a tip :P, you'll lose more then just house points :D

And i love the idea for that mini game ! it is going to be added as soon as possible, but first you'll need to learn how to transform by professor McGonagol (extra tasks)

O and since tomorrow is christmas, i've changed the hero charset to a christmas 1 for the holiday, when another demo is released there will be a wardrobe to change into the Christmas clothes e.t.c :P

I had an idea thats going to be added, first of all next demo you'll have normal school clothes :P, but if you do a side quest for santa you can gain the santa clothes, also there are goin to be other clothes possibly easter clothes, halloween (you dress as Voldemort !) and other stuff like that.

Also another idea for a mini game given to me by DarkDoom, an animugus game , you know turniong into animals i have ideas for this but more on that later, any errors anyone finds on the demo tell me asap so i can fix um :D

demo is good i got stuck alot castle is reli well laid out confusin but easy to figure it out so a gd mix tehre, erm teh spells can go through bookcases n walls, si that right ?? lol n it wouldn't laways let me click close and i generally got confused alot but jsuts me overall though excellent i hope this game is completed!

Thanks for the comments, and yes my CMS is buggered with the close for some reason :S, hmmmm i can fix the beams going thru walls, won't take too long :P, o and an easier way to get from the seventh floor to the second floor is to use the magic mirror by your common room which helps !

Right, :P i thought this would trick someone out :P, if you go to the far left you can use the magic mirror just walk at it facing up ! no other direction ! and then it'll ask you if you want to use it :P

I've downloaded it, however there were a few problems I've found:
When you say "Go talk to people" in breakfast, the plate thing stays on the screen.
When you go to the stairs the message will come up twice if you say no or you try to go to the girls one.
It is almost impossible to find the classes. Is DADA on third floor like in the games?

I was playing I had a few problems :(

The beam was too slow i recon
and there were to much rats


(they should have been able to die in one hit)

When I shoot a beam they just run up and attack me

And when it says the floor (sign on top left corner )
you cant move until its outta da way

I recommend doing a kind of pokedex, a monster diary that records info on monsters and special objects, characters that come along. That would be pretty cool.

The game is looking great, I wish you good luck and hope you live up to the excitement that harry potter has to offer. I love hp, and will most likely enjoy this game.
