This is the most greatest game of all time. I've remembered when I've played this game since I was 5 years old and I just loved this game.

Not only the graphics were a state of the art back than, but I also love the sweet music tunes aswell. This game has even introduced some unique powerups that Mario can use throughout the game. My favorite powerup is either the Tanooki Mario or the Sledge Hammer Mario.

The purpose of this thread is discuss about not only your thoughts about the whole game, but you can also discuss about some trivia, your favorite powerups, musics, enemies, your tricks etc. Just talk about anything related to this incredible game. You can even talk about the original 8-bit NES version, the classic 16-bit Super NES remake, or the most recent GBA remake of the game too!

Remember this thread only dedicates to Super Mario Bros. 3 ONLY and NOT anyother Nintendo or Mario game.

And one last thing, all members are required to put this banner in their sigs to show your dedication to this game! :D

Ah, the Koopalings. Loved those little guys. Anyone else ever wonder why the bloody f*** they got dumped in the 3D generation in favor of Bowser Mini-mes with zero variation? Look at Mario Party's Star Board, is it any coincidence that there just happen to be 7 Baby Bowsers? I suspect someone got lazy with the 3D-modelling. Sunshine was just further disappointment (and that game's crappy enough as is). Mario & Luigi hardly counts as that game's packed with cameos anyway. Hell, Geno makes an appearance.

Yes,they were qite fun x33 I also complain on why the limelit e was cast aside from them in the 3D generation.

Wasn't the Lemmy just the cutie? ^o^

Even though you've missed out of the original NES version and the remake on Super NES, Nintendo did however managed to re-released it for the GBA which is now called Super Mario Advance 4.

If you do have a GBA, you should buy that incredible game NOW!

Man this club really needs a good bumping. Now onto a subject.

You've guys might of remember a special cartoon series that came out 16 years ago called "The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3" which was made by DIC. But in Japan of 1989, it was a special time of the year. Because they've actually made a 3 part OVA anime series called Super Mario Bros. Amada!

http://yellow.ribbon.to/~lajosjancsi/Koopa_img/amada-1.jpg

This never before released anime just looks simply amazing. Its a shame that it never came out of the US, but instead we had the DIC version of the cartoon series though.

You can read more about this fascintating OVA at:

Shenlong
February 27th, 2006, 06:58 AM
Now time for some trivia.

In outdoor levels where the scenery includes large colored blocks (such as levels 1 and 3 of World 1), keeping Mario crouched down on top of a white block for several seconds causes him to fall through the block. He now appears behind the scenery instead of in front of it (although is still vulnerable to enemies). If this can be sustained until the end of level 1-3, Mario can walk right past the end, to reach a hidden mushroom house.

If you complete a world while wearing a Frog suit, a Tanooki suit or a Hammer Brother suit, the king will say something different each time.

The tune which plays when Mario uses the Warp Whistle is identical to the melody used for the Magic Recorder in The Legend of Zelda, and in both games the whistle summons a tornado that sweeps up the hero and dumps him elsewhere. Koji Kondo, composer for SMB3 and the creator of the Mario theme, also composes the music for Nintendo's Zelda franchise.

The final island group in World 3 is shaped like the islands of Japan, with a gold coin in the approximate location of Tokyo and the castle in the approximate location of Kyoto, where Nintendo is based.

Super Mario Bros. 3 contains some dummy content that was created during the development process but removed from the final version. Using tools such as the Game Genie, it is possible to reveal this material. More information can be found at The Mushroom Kingdom.

My uncle told me all those secrets when I first began playing the game =D

I found the block one really interesting. In the desert, there's one beyong the dancing palm trees in the far right corner. It's literally impossible for a simple gamer to collect all 3 flutes however =0

Shenlong
February 27th, 2006, 09:27 AM
Yeah that's the only place I've found one of the flutes at the Desert Hill level. All you need to do is go all the way to right corner where there's a rock, than you use the Hammer to break it, and finally you go past by the palm trees where you fight a Fire Bros. to get it. I've remembered that trick since I was 6 years old! ^_^

Btw, can you of you guys do me a favor? In order to make this club more active and getting alot members aswell, can one of you guys make either a banner or a button for this club so all the members can wear it on their sigs please?

Yamato-san

hey, here's a question: what did everyone think of that cartoon show by Dic? I can't say it was perfect, but pretty damn good for an American adaption of a Japanese game franchise (need I remind everyone of Final Fantasy: Spirits Within or that one Mega Man cartoon?), in fact, I'd go as far to say it's the best and most faithful Japanese->American adaption. Not only is most of the game's content and atmosphere intact, they even used the game's sound effects and reorchestrated the music.

Anyway, out of the three shows, I think Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 was my favorite. Don't know why.... could be the fact that I get more of a nostalgic buzz from it (I spent part of my earlier childhood watching that show everyday on the Family Channel, moreso than the other two. Even recording some of the episodes, and I still have that tape), or it could be the plain fact that I missed the show more since, for whatever reason, the more recent Super Mario All-stars collaboration never featured it (pretty stupid considering Super Mario Bros. Super Show episodes vastly out-number Super Mario World episodes about 5 times over). But I think it's more the fact that it adapted the game most faithfully (King Koopa's even referred to as "Bowser" at one point), and it featured a cast of loveable characters (World's Ugtar wasn't so appealing, and I didn't really like Yoshi acting so childish, and his fear of water is a great contradiction from the games. The Koopalings were in World, mind you, but not quite as much focus as here), in fact, this show is part of the reason I grew to love those Koopalings, whom I talked about earlier. My favorite episode is definitely that one where each of the 7 Koopalings use their magic wand to screw up one of the 7 continents in the real world XD. The one where Kootie Pie (Wendy O.) disguises as a human (with a tail) to seduce Mario and then Luigi disguises as "Casanova Koopa" to seduce Kootie is my runner-up.

Himawarii
February 27th, 2006, 04:03 PM
Yep,but I'll bet none of you know where the 3rd flute ish :3 (even I can't remember the exact place..but I read where it was in the Prima guide =0)
And sure Shenlong ^_^ I'll make something =)

Ahh,yes I've seen the TV show..that's another reason why I love the Koopalings <3 I haven't seen much of the show though,so I can't dtermine whether it was perfect or fit..I'll see if maybe YouTube or some download place has any eppys..I long to hear them speak ;D

http://www.wscarlet.nildram.co.uk/mario/mariogallery/mariogallerypart2/general/koopalings.jpg

Speaking of Koopa kids, did you've know that in the DIC version of the Super Mario Bros. 3 animated series, the Koopalings were given different names due to the fact that DIC had some licensing issues with Nintendo. Below here's the list of the original name or the left sids and the names DIC assigned to them on the right side.

Ludwing Von Koopa/Kooky Von Koopa

Lemmy Koopa/Hip Koopa

Roy Koopa/Bully Koopa

Iggy Koopa/Hop Koopa

Wendy O. Koopa/Kootie Pie Koopa

Morton Koopa Jr./Big Mouth Koopa

Larry Koopa/Cheatsy Koopa.

So licensing issues was the reason? You sure it was with Nintendo, or with the artists they were named after? Though, if it were the latter, I don't see how guys like Ludwig Von would be a problem, since they've been dead for a long time (then again, consistency counts).

In the Mario cartoons, the original seven Koopa Kids were given different names, either to reduce the amount of money the show's producers, DIC, had to spend to reserve the rights to copyrighted character names, or because the characters were not officially named before the show started production. In a similar fashion, the Koopa Kids' father, Bowser, is almost always referred to as "King Koopa."

You can read more about that article here:

Himawarii
February 28th, 2006, 09:51 AM
So that's what was up with the irregular change of names XD I'll see to that article later :33

I have a question..if Bowser is the father..who is the mother? =0

Shenlong
February 28th, 2006, 11:10 AM
That is the most biggest mystery ever. Since Bowser is a lizard, do you suppose that makes him a hermampherdite?

Barboach
February 28th, 2006, 02:37 PM
in one episode of super mario super show, it shows bowsers mom in it, so there could be a possibility that bowsers mom and dad made the koopalings after bowser

Shenlong

I don't where they sell them exactly, but I've heard that they're very rare since Nintendo doesn't have that much quantites of them since the past 17 years in Japan.

Himawarii

Shenlong
March 3rd, 2006, 07:53 AM
Well I did found some more information about the Super Mario Bros. 3 Akihabara Electric Circus CD soundtrack at The Mushroom Kingdom website.

This is a very unique album. It's basically ten Super Mario Bros. 3 remixes, with a few sound effects from the game mixed in here and there. I can't begin to describe the style of music used, but it's probably best explained as "late 80's" music, I guess. The remixes are well-done, using only the best songs from SMB3. A few tracks contain words, but the "lyrics" are basically a few words repeated over and over. For example, the only words in track 10 ("Super... Mario... Brothers!") repeat every once in a while during the last five minutes of the song.

So far I'm in Big Island on World 4 my most favorite level ever! I mean everything is so huge. From goombas to giant block everything is all whoah! I freaking hate that giant Hammer Brother because each time he lands on his jumps, it'll make mario temporarily freeze because of the impact of his jumps.

Btw, just in case if you guys noticed, here are some images of the original 8-bit version of Super Mario Bros. 3 game and some other stuff might as well that has been released in Japan and America since almost 17 years ago! =D

Yea..and at a very high bid I'm guessing..

Btw,what's yall's fav costume in the game?Mine's is the Hammer outfit and the Tanuki suit <3

Shenlong
March 4th, 2006, 05:18 PM
Yeah those suits are awesome too. I also like the Frog Suit aswell cuz not only you jump further with it, but it also makes swimming alot easier and you can even do multiple hops on top of waters too.

Himawarii
March 4th, 2006, 05:22 PM
Hops?I never knew ya could hop on the water, but I did know about the swimming.

I recommend you use a frog suit on the 2nd level in World 8..it'll make passing a lot easier.

Shenlong
March 4th, 2006, 05:25 PM
Since world 3 has alot of underwater levels, that's when I've actually use them. Ok in order to make multiple hops on the water surface, just go on top of the water surface, than push up, jump, and keep on doing that until your moving forward.

And if you use the frog suit or the tanooki suit after you've defeated a Koopaling, the king will say something different! =)

Himawarii
March 4th, 2006, 05:33 PM
I can handle the water levels without a Frog suit.after 5 years of gameplay,it isn't that hard :P

XD Yep,they do say something diffrent xD While on the topic of Koopalings, which one is your fav?

Mines in the spoiled Wendy XP and of course the adorable Lemmy <3

Shenlong
March 4th, 2006, 05:37 PM
I would say my favorite Koopaling is either Roy or Iggy because Roy is like the tough guy and plus he's freaking tough too cuz each time he jumps, the floor shakes.

As for Iggy, he's a bit nerdy but I think he's the only one that jumps the highest when you're fighting him.

Himawarii
March 4th, 2006, 05:38 PM
Yea..I thought Ludwig had the same effect on the ground though =3

Iggy is cuteness X33 He and Lemmy are twins I have heard.

Shenlong
March 4th, 2006, 06:01 PM
Well its obvious that both Lemmy and Iggy are twins it's because they both have the same type of hair style. Take a look for yourself.

Iggy:
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f214/SSJMarioBros/IggyKoopa.gif

Lemmy:
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f214/SSJMarioBros/Lemmy.gif

Yamato-san
March 4th, 2006, 11:46 PM
they were only said to be twins in the Dic cartoon (for that matter, the cartoon also gave a small indication of the Koopalings' ages and order of birth, with I think Kooky Von/Ludwing Von being the eldest, and the twins being the youngest). Even if they do have similar hair styles, I don't think there's been any official word that they're twins or not.

Himawarii
March 5th, 2006, 09:15 AM
Yep,that's exactly where I got the theory from xD

Luckily we could tell the diffrence.Iggy seems a bit taller and wears glasses and Lemmy is shorter(?) and has very large eyes o.o

Shenlong
March 5th, 2006, 04:44 PM
OK now lets talk about the Mc Donald Happy Meal toys again.

http://smbis.nescentral.com/images/nostalgia/mcmario.jpg

In 1989 Pete Main and Bill White (Nintendo employees) sent a letter to Mc Donald's marketing department. Tempted by the success that Pepsi had had with their Nintendo campaign, he agreed and a Happy Meal based on Super Mario Bros 3 including Mario and friends was released!

This is the one I had when I was a boy! ^_^ If you press his front the little goomba does a flip backwards.

Mario Toy:

Mario is in his raccoon suit sitting on a suction cup attached to a spring (as if he was jumping). through an arrengement you can make Mario "jump" if you push the cup down. the suction cup attached to our belowed plumber will then "stuck" to the platform below him and when there is no more suction the spring will make Mario fly high up in the air!

Welcome aboard! Holy cow, were getting alot of members already! XD

Now anyways, time for some more trivia!

Super Mario Bros. 3 was featured in the motion picture The Wizard three months before it was released.

Before they stopped keeping track, Nintendo claimed SMB3 had sold 7 million copies. The 1999 Guinness Book of World Records pegged SMB3 sales at 15 million copies sold worldwide -- a world record indeed.

Btw, here's a treat for all of you fellow SMB 3 fans out there, its the remix of the overworld and grass land theme song that is used in Super Smash Bros. Melee! Check it out!

Btw, if you want to hear more great SMB 3 remix tunes, you should listen to the Super Mario Bros. 3 soundtrack made by Akihabara Electric Circus. They're tunes are just as awesome as the one you've heard from SSBM!

Here is a link below to download the whole Super Mario Bros. 3 Akihabara Electric Circus soundtrack in a bunch of mutiple Mp3 files.

Colorized Mario looks great!

The reason why my sis and I fought over Mario a lot:

We owned a Game Genie, and one of our favorite codes was one that allowed Mario to re-use items...giving whoever was Mario an advantage. (if memory serves me right, the code is YPXXNSVK)

Here is something very interesting that I've discovered. The tower in World 5 of SMB3 is most likely a reference to the Tower of Babel, which is described in Genesis as being a structure created by humanity to reach the heavens (which would make sense, seeing as how Mario uses the World 5 tower for the same reason). The SMB3 tower is strikingly similar to most artists' renditions of the Tower of Babel.

Holy crap, this thread needs to be revived quick!

*Clears out cobwebs*

Now onto a new topic. What is your favorite powerups in SMB 3? Well here's mines.

Fire Flower - A classic Mario powerup that lets you shoot fire balls.

Starman - Another classic Mario powerup. Lets you become invincible for a limited time.

Raccon Leaf - You can fly weeeeeeee!

Frog Suit - Makes you not only swim better but also jump or leap even farther and hop just like a real frog!

Goomba's Shoe - You can stomp on certain enemies without getting hurt and makes you jump further and higher too!

Tanooki Suit - Just like the Raccoon Leaf except you can turn into a stone statue so you don't get hurt by enemies!

Hammer Brothers' Suit - Similar to the Fire Flower except its more powerfull and goes through walls! The best powerup yet!
