I'm currently getting Windows Server 2003, so I can make my computer a server, and upload SMPN onto that for lots more space. Would I need to get a new Domain name, rewrite all my files I made ECT.? Thanks!
Also, what would be the Username and Password for the FTP client now?!

Um, for a server, you could use any computer not just Window server things ;x
anyways, I don't know what you are talking about but just use
http://httpd.apache.org/ (http://apache.com)

Yea that didn't sound right even I read it myself. :P
The point is, I don't like window servers. I mean that not only windows server 200x can be a server. Any regular opperating system can. You just need to install programs like Apache, php, etc on it it. Sorry if that sounded confusing. :(

Ah... no. What I'm doing is, downloading Windows Server 2003, and Partitioning part of my computer for a server, about 10-20 gigs. (I've got a 40 Gig computer.)

Unless you have a T3 connection speed~~ it isn't going to work D:
You need a lot of speed.

Twenty gigabytes is not even close to what a server should be, for starters.

I'm currently using Apache, and I found it to be very simple to use. You just go through the installation, then when it's installed you just put your website in the C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\htdocs folder. :) Voila, unless your using a router (in which case you may have to do some port forwarding), people should be able to access your site by typing in http://<your online ip address here>. :D
I may have missed out something, I don't think I have though.

Thanks! This'll help! Would I be able to give the http://ipadresshere thingie a .co.nr adress?
I'm trying to make my site big, and supposedly, 20 gigs is alot.
Hold, I have a rooter, what do I do? Apache dosen't work, it won't download, can't find the download link. I clicked on Download Apache Server but it just takes me to a stupid mirror page.

I do, it still won't download.
I didn't miss it, I'm not gonna use Windows Server 2003 anymore, and my computer has a fast connection speed.

Thank you~ ;>
Anyways, how fast do you have? This is actually a critical part of hosting.
-:Buro-kun Tsubasa:-

Its fast, I'm not hosting anyone, only myself, its fast, it only takes about 2 seconds to go home on a web browser, how do I download apache? ;_;

I think paul wants EXACT speed. You'll probably need 1mbps at least, saying it can go home in 2 secs doesn't mean much, mine can, and it's only 512kbps.

Again, thanks.
You download Apache from www.apache.org

That dosen't help! I select the mirror, it won't download. What DO I do?!
I don't know my exact speed.

HTTP Server/from a mirror/apache_2.0.55-win32-x86-no_ssl.msi
Works for me. If the mirror dosen't work, try a different one.

It works! Thanks Mr. Missing, and sorry for bieng a bit of a noob... (If I'm allowed to say that!) Will I have to partition first? OR can I download, THEN partition?
Innocence
February 27th, 2006, 06:30 AM
you have to download it onto the partition that you want the server on. And there is a linux version too incase you change your mind about operating systems.
-:Buro-kun Tsubasa:-
February 27th, 2006, 06:32 AM
Ah, so I have to partition first, and, so sorry, I'm completely new to server, how do I do that?
Innocence
February 27th, 2006, 06:38 AM
Meh, if you don't want to wipe your hard drive, you'll need a proggy like partition magic. If you don't mind, then get a linux liveCD(don't need to install) and do something(I can't remember.)
-:Buro-kun Tsubasa:-
February 27th, 2006, 06:39 AM
I can't a Linux CD, Is there any other way? Can you do it without the Linux CD? Ooh this is all very confusing! Maybe If I show you how much space I have... 38.1 GB free space.
Innocence
February 27th, 2006, 06:52 AM
You can make more than one partition with the windows XP cd I think, but again, it has to wipe your hard drive. And again, consider partition magic.
-:Buro-kun Tsubasa:-
February 27th, 2006, 07:03 AM
I can't use any CD, is there a way, or can Partition Magic do it without the Disc?
Innocence
February 27th, 2006, 07:06 AM
Why no CD? Even on windows?because Partition Magic can leave any files untouched, runs on windows, etc.
-:Buro-kun Tsubasa:-
February 27th, 2006, 07:11 AM
I accidentaly broke the disc >.<
So, can I use Partition Magic without a disc or not?
Innocence
February 27th, 2006, 07:15 AM
No, you buy it on CD >_<. I'm not sure where, but I think you can online.
-:Buro-kun Tsubasa:-
February 27th, 2006, 07:16 AM
Will I need a disc anyway for Partitioning?
Innocence
February 27th, 2006, 07:28 AM
Of course. So I just suggest you go out and buy the best CD Drive you can afford.(afford means how much you want to pay.)
-:Buro-kun Tsubasa:-
February 27th, 2006, 07:30 AM
I've got a CD Drive... why can't I just download a program?
Innocence
February 27th, 2006, 07:52 AM
Because I don't know one. If you have a CD drive, why don't you use it?
-:Buro-kun Tsubasa:-
February 27th, 2006, 04:18 PM
It don't matter now... thanks anyways!
