New Pokemon Fangame

Me and a friend are making a new pokemon fangame using RM2k(3) and it is going really well. There is one technical problem. We can't think how to make a battle system.

There are some really good features we plan to put in the game.
Bikes/Running
New/Old pokemon
10 Commands (including bike and running)
a long in-built story feature (with ANOTHER team and a boss. This time they're strong though.)
Many, many more!

If anyone could help with the BS it would be really good.

Battle systems seem to be the #1 Problem with Pokemon rm2k3 games. I'm going to continue writing my tutorial on that.

I'm afraid not.
When I said the game is coming on really well, i really ment that the planning/drawings is coming on really well. We only have a couple of events actually working.
These are common events and the intro speech.

Storyline: 50%
Events: 5%
Battle system: 0%
Maps: 1
That's really how it pans out. Although by Monday, I would have alot of the storyline events finished and would be able to put up screenshots. It's just hard to make maps and events without any BS.

BTW, Pokemon Lunar was great. I think it was just my old PC that made it lag.

There were some parts that I found were somewhat laggy, but when I played it on my new laptop, it played perfectly. Anyway, sounds good. Lemme know if you need anything.

Well, if you don't mind, I wouln't mind a r/s quality version of the rival from gold/silver/crystal. Also cyndiquil (and evolutions), Treeko (and evolutions) character sets.

Any G/S sprite you may find will have the old GB Color colour scheme, not the 32-bit GBA brightness. If I have time to rip one (worth a try, right?) I'll post it!

Anyway, I really like those screens! My only questions are:
~Do you want your system (textbox picture) different? In the first screen it was Rm2k-like, and the second/third were pkmn like.

Actually, my graphics artists created Gold and Crystal sprites (including field sprites, battle sprites and back sprites) so they do exist, I however cannot hand them out as I did not create them~ Sorry 'bout that ;(

The reason I ask is simply this: Through my years of making resources and developing games, I've found nothing is more satisfying then seeing resources you made through your sweat and blood being admired and accomplished enough to find their way into other peoples' games. It gives a much greater sense of accomplishment than just showing them off in your game and keeping them to yourself! Let us know if we can see these sprites!

1) There are already 3 screenies (look to the fifth post or something)
2) The demo should be out in a couple of months, because there is only 2 of us working on it
3) Yes, I think they are direct rips, and i was given the sprites for the hero by DarkMage31

5) The only way to learn this is to read tons of tutorials and play tons of rm2k games that are better than yours. There's no "quick" way to do it. www.gaminggroundzero.com has the best games, so try downloading Kindred Saga or something.

Wow, that's a big ask mystic! I thought what made people proud about their game was the fact that they made it all themselves. I would be willing to help (if you want) but i would ask for as much credit as you give yourself in the making of the game. The battle sytem is often the hardest part of making a pokemon game.... I also would need to know what type of battle system you would want (a new system or keep to the original) anyway, just a tip, try to stay as far away as possible from the inbuilt system.

The thing is, although I am putting a lot of dedication into this game, it's just for fun and the bits I enjoy making most are the storyline and editing sprites.
So I thought that if I didn't have the burden of the bs on my shoulders, there would be more story (something lacking in the earlier pokemon games).

About the Battle System, I would like it as close to the origional pokemon system, but I know that would be very hard.

Meerkat and I are going to do something similar, so when we work out the "official" CBS, you can download the game and adapt, not steal, the coding. The best way to learn CBS's is to look at other games and figure it out yourself.

About the release of the first demo, I can't say when that will be. I am hoping about August so that the whole game isn't there, but a good bit of it (hopefully the first 4 Gym Leaders).

Well I am the only actual programmer on the project and I actually want to have a good bit of the game finished (with all houses enterable and all people talkable) with 4 gyms and a couple of apperances by the team rocket/magma/aqua equivalent, and events if you win or lose against them (e.g: some pokemon get stolen, lose = the grunts get more pokemon in the future.) DO NOT STEAL THIS IDEA!!! IT IS COMPLEATLY ORIGIONAL AND YOU SAW IT HERE FIRST. I DO NOT WANT TO SEE THIS IN ANYONE'S GAMES WHO DO NOT HAVE MY PERMISSION!!! anyway. I also have 3 other people always wanting to use the only computer!

Also, you can't wait for August until my first demo???

Firstly, I wansn't saying i'm copyrighting it and the idea wan't pokemon stealing things, thats an old idea dating back to the bed and blue games as Team Rocket were assisted by them. The idea i was ASKING people not to steal was the decisions you make affect the outcome of the story (not the Pokemon you face, Gym Leaders or Elite Four). Also, I am only knowing that I will finsh it BY august but I hope before!

Also, I think this is a bit off topic, but can anyone tell me where I can find a working, reliable download for pokemon ruby? I've tried about five or six different sites, but out of the two or three that the downloads actually download, the rom doesn't actually work! And I know that it's not my emulator because I know how reliable VisualBoyAdvance is!

Sorry for double posting (again), but I was just explaining the development of the game. The thing is I thought it would be good if the "public" (you lot) could decide on a few small things on the game. The first one, as you probably have already noticed, is "what type will the first gym leader be". the next one will be "What Pokemon will Brawly use?" Also, i've made the events for gatting the legendary birds from the red/blue/yellow .games

I voted Fighting. Electric types are overused (Pikachu) and psychics are too rare and mysterious to appear so early in the game. After all, Brawly sounds very fightingish.

err. . .Brawly is the second Gym Leader in R/S. The second poll isn't going to be about the first gym, but the second. But if the first gym leader in Hoenn in this game is a fighting type, then there will be a different gym leader in the 2nd gym.

I'll see how many people vote. I might put a fire, water or grass gym in for the second seeing as though we cant really have the gym from ruby/sapphire second as well as a fighting first. . . If I dont get enough people voting, i'll probably redo the poll, replacing psychic and electric with grass and water, then put in fire as another option.

Anyways, i've seen what his maps look like - Do you remember the gates that are used in red/blue/yellow where the guard says "Gosh, Im parched!" or something like that? MysticSwampert has put the buildings of them in between ALL towns and routes! Personally, I don't think that they should be there - what do you think?

Gym chipsets are pretty generic, the only really specific thing applicable to the term "gym" are those little statue things at the entrance. All the gyms are designed with unique graphics, so unless you want to reproduce a gym, all you should need is a regular chipset or a totally custom one with the statues on it.

It is best to use a custom chipset for gyms. Just use the type of pokemon the gym contains and make a chipset with relevance to that type of pokemon. it gives your game originality (if thats a word)

All the existing Pokémon games are pretty bad (no offense of course). I don't mean anyone's around here- I'm talking about Pokemon Galaxy, Rm2Kemon, and Pokemon 2k. Everyone around here can do better!

I realised why it was saying that I was not setting a start party position when i loaded it through run (i cant open windows explorer not to be confused with internet explorer). . .I was loading the wrong game!

Sorry about some of the strange colours on the screenshots (eg: a bit of blue on the grass). I had to convert them into gif. images and it miscoloured them!

Sorry for double posting but i was wondering, after doing the first appearance of that evil team that they always have in every pokemon game and they eventually get beaten by the hero (but they dont have to in this game. You could always lose and they take over the world and then you have to go back and fight or join them. this will be a long way after the first demo.) and i was wondering what to call this team. . .the best three will go through to a poll and the winner will appear in the game. Also, what month do you think that battle system will be out DarkMage/KrazyMeerkat/anybody else who is working on it?

Also, how do i get rid of the poll to create a new one?

well I am working on the battle at this point in time. i can't put an estimation on when it will be done, but not too much longer.. I'm not sure whether we're making the battle available to the public at the same time we're releasing it to special people (like you)
