In Crystal, the 2nd egg you get. (Odd Egg from the breeders.) It randomly hatches into one of the pre-evolutions, so far 3 of the ones I've hatched from that egg have been shiny. (I restart often, LOL.)
My question is this: What are the chaces that only that egg will hatch a shiny pokemon?

There's actually a 50% chance of the egg being shiny.

Anyone remember where to get a water stone?

You have to go to Route 25, where Bill's house is, and show his old man/gramps a Staryu (might be different in Silver) and he will give you a Water Stone. Remember that this is the ONLY Water Stone you get in the game.
Use it on Staryu.

i have some questions: if trade a shiny from GSC to RBY, then trade it back, will it retain it's shininess?
if you trade a pokemon from RBY to GSC does it have a chance to be shiny?
Do you have to catch Mew/Celebi in their respective games to finish you pokedex?
Is there some reason you can't clone shinies? or is it just the Gyarados?

Yes.

Yes.

If you mean that if you need them to complete the Pokedex, then no.
Is there some reason you can't clone shinies? or is it just the Gyarados?
Not really sure on this, but I think it's because of the one in 1000(However many zeroes it is xD) chance

Thanx.
I have a some more ?'s: If you breed a shiny to a non-shiny, what chance is there that the baby will be shiny? and what if theyre both shiny?
shanecdavis
April 3rd, 2006, 08:44 AM
I am not able to verify it right now, but IIRC the chance for a shiny baby from a shiny parent is 50%. Also, having both parents shiny does not increase the chance.

Chaos Black is a hack of a game - it's not an actual, official Pokemon game, in which case you don't ask about it in this part of the forum. o_o; Go look in the hacks area, which should tell you more about them.

what is the best starter for when you are going against the elite 4
Geometric-sama
May 7th, 2006, 02:57 PM
By the time you get to the Elite 4, you should have evenly trained a well-rounded party. You won't get past them with just one Pokémon (well, I did with my Venusaur, but it was something like level 75 - I didn't train very well in my first game). This means that by the end of the game it doesn't really matter which starter you chose.
shanecdavis
May 7th, 2006, 03:11 PM
If it is RBY, then the best starter is by far Blastoise. I defeated the E4 with Blastoise and Zapdos. I actually beat the entire game with only Blastoise and only used Zapdos in the E4.

shanecdavis
May 24th, 2006, 04:42 PM
Feraligatr and Meganium are comparable, depending on what you want. Typhlosion is the worst starter of the 9 (soon to be 12). Actually the GSC starters are the worst of the bunch.

Well here is the MEW TRICK
-Make sure you haven't battled the Gambler with two Poliwags and a Poliwhirl. He is facing the Underground Path toward Celadon city...on Route 8. Also, make sure you haven't fought the Youngster on Route 24, he's just after a Hiker and is facing North. If you have, the code won't work.
-You need Fly. (Aka HM02)
-Get some Ultra Balls, and anything else you would use to catch a Level 7 Mew, that only knows Pound.
Go to the Gambler I talked about before. Save AT the door he is facing. Don't make him battle you. SAVE HERE, this is tricky. Now, step one step towards him, and PRESS START. Really fast. If you did it right, the menu will pop up, but he won't battle you. Now Fly to Cerulean City.
[If you've done this right, after you use Fly, he will get the "!" over his head]
Note: You cannot use START, A, or B.
Note: Do NOT save anywhere after this. First of all, you can't save when your buttons don't work. But second, when they work again, saving will ruin the Mew code, and not allow you to get the Mew. Ever. Keep your saved file from before you battled the Gambler.
[If you've done this right, you can't press Start]
Walk (you can't use start) to the Youngster, and when you battle him, make sure he WALKS TO YOU. Don't go directly in front of him. Beat him, and (now your buttons work) Fly to Lavender Town (Or Saffron City).
[If you've done this right, the Start menu WILL pop up when it should]
Now if you went to Lavender, go to the left of town, and start to enter that narrow passageway. If you went to Saffron, go right, to where the guard lets you past if you give him a drink. Either way, the Start menu will pop up. Do NOT save here. Press B. Mew will appear. This is your ONLY chance. (unless you go to your save file before the Gambler) Ta-Da...its a Mew.

I sympathise. My sisters Silver game has that problem. We decided to play our old G/S/C games after a long while. All the clocks of my games had to be reset, but they didn't affect the save (I was still in Vermillion in Gold, thank goodness), my sis, however, wasn't so lucky. Her Silver save ws corrupted.
So today I'm hoping to go and find a second hand one at the shops.
But if anyone else knows how to sort out this problem, that'd be great.

to get rid of the problem, you must replace the internal battery,or send it to nintendo.but either way the save will be gone.you might as well just play until you cant play the save any more.then send it in to nintendo.

how do you get the rail pass on crystal?
Kraka-chan
June 26th, 2006, 02:08 PM
Okay, first once you've arrived in Kanto, you have to activate the Power Plant. But I won't go through the all the details, unless you haven't done that.
Anyway, you have to help the Copycat in Saffron City. Talk to her, then go to the Pokemon fanclub in Vermillion City and talk to the guy with the Pokedoll. Take the Pokedoll to the Copycat and she'll give you a rail pass.
I hope that helped.

You're not playing your game with an emulator or a cheat device are you?
If not, then the HMs should be in the items list, or in <trainer's name> PC.
You should have recieved the HM from the S.S Anne Captain, after which, the S.S Anne will be gone.
Toothache
July 4th, 2006, 02:39 PM
Heh, he hasn't even got Cut yet. You don't get Cut from Misty, you just get the ability to use it outside battle after beating her.
So, in order to get Cut, you go south from Cerulean, through the Underground Path (there is an ingame trade here at one end), through a few trainers to arrive at Vermilion City. Next, board the ship at the end of the dock (the SS Anne). I would battle all the trainers here for Experience, since you only have this one opportunity to do so. Check around each room, and if you happen to run into Gary, beat him up and carry on past to find the captain of the SS Anne, who happens to be feeling a bit seasick. Talk to him and you'll rub his back, and he'll feel better. He will give you Cut as a reward.

I used to love these games when I was younger but after awhile they lost their charm. Well, I'm going off to college now and the big thing for me has been rediscovering my childhood. :] I figured, why not pick up the old Gold again? So as a former veteran and a humble "noob" I have a question.
I have both the red and gold versions and I want a Steelix in my gold version. If I attatched the metal coat to an Onix and traded it to the red version, and then traded back to the gold version, would my Onix turn into a Steelix or would I just get back an Onix minus a metal coat?
Many Thanks.

Actually, since held items aren't officially recorded in R/B/Y, I don't think it matters...but the question of whether or not it will evolve is beyond my experience...

hey, it definitely will still evolve upon trading it back. i do it all the time. trust me on this one. your items are still encoded with the pokemon. the onix will not be able to be traded if you have any new moves with it, but when you trade it back, the items stay the same, so if you have a metal coat, it'll evolve into stelix.

all you have to do is go to see Bill's grandpa, north of Cerulean City. he wants to see some random pokemon that Bill told him about: Lickitung, Oddish, Growlithe, Staryu, and Pichu. each of these give you one element stone (except Lickitung is worthless and only gives you an everstone).

this thread is only for RBY and GSC games. nothing past crystal version should be posted here. you clicked into the "metal generation" part of the forum. that refers to the metals- gold, silver and crystal. you can still throw in red, blue and yellow, but nothing past that.

Will a pokemon evolve if the appropriate leve is reached in the daycare/breeding place while I'm away from it?
No it won't, but you can get it up to that level, then take it out, then train it up one more level. It should evolve.

well, okay. first, you make sure your crystal version doesn't have anything in your party that can't be traded, even if you don't plan on trading them, you can't have them with you.
next, go to the time capsule, and talk to the woman in front of it. she asks if you want to trade across time, and you say yes. she'll treat it like a regular trade from then on, asking to save the game, and letting you into the tiny room.
in your yellow version, you simply go up to the trading/battling woman, and talk to her. she saves, and it skips the "where would you like to go?" part, bringing you right into the little room.
you talk to your other self, and it's a normal trade. just with restrictions on what pokemon you can bring. tada.

Guys, where can I get a water stone on Crysytal?
Bring Bill's grandfather a Staryu. Previously, you must have brought to him the other Pokémon he asked for.
BTW...Just curious...What is the "legal" way of getting Mew ?? I mean, not a glitchy one.
EDIT:
hey there.
Electabuzz...
Quick attack
Leer
Thunderpunch at lv.9
lightscreen at lv.17
swift at lv.25
screech at lv.36
thunderbolt at lv.47
thunder at lv.58
and that's bout it... you can teach him alot of different TMs tho...those are just all the ones that he learns on his own.
hope that helped! ^^
Thank you a lot !! :D

I suppose the only legal way to get Mew would be to get one from a friend in trade.
Otherwise, you will probably have to resort to using an AR or another cheat device.

To answer your question the Mew Glitch is legal... and getting it from nintendo event is legal
and they created mew to make everyone jealous and be craving mew like it was a reeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllllllllllyyyyyy good choclate and they crave it so much ppl start making false hope and stupid guides which makes everyone all like :D theres hope! (if ou wanna see the scams they made go here Fake Mew Scams (http://www.trsrockin.com/mew.html) some are incredibly funny) and while ppl are crying about how hey lost all their pokemon Nintendo holds events were you BUY mew and they make a HUGE cash profit..... well thats my theory
Also to snwers Ainee's post go to the Shiny gold post in these forums and check if the problems you found havent been reported if they havent REPORT IT and hopfully it will be fixed when b3 comes out

I am making my way through Pokemon Silver and I am in Blackthorn City, ready to battle Clair.
But the person blocking the gym door saying she/he doesn't know when Clair will return hasn't moved...
And then there's an old man blocking the cave enterance which I've been told will only move for you once you've been given permission by Clair...
But... if I can't get into the gym... I can't get into the cave.

Beat up deals damage depending on how many Pokemon you have in your team, so you could deal up to six hits.
I don't know if the Pokemon team member's level affects the attack power though... but that's as far as I know.

It depends only on how many Pokémon are in your party; those afflicted with Sleep, Burn, Paralysis, or Poison do not count.

About Ghost Pokemon, I know thay cannot attack normal pokemon but can they attack normal pokemon with a second type (i.e. Pidgeotto) by explioting the second type?
I think this is a bad question, but I'm not sure.
Kylie-chan
January 5th, 2007, 12:08 PM
No... well, yes, but not in that way. Ghost Pokémon can attack normal Pokémon with any move that isn't Ghost type. No idea if it can, but if Gengar knew Thunder, it could still attack a normal-type Pokémon, by using Thunder.

hi, im trying to trade my pokemon from my blue version over to my gold version, but every time i try to do this, the gold version says "your friend is not ready." and a few seconds later, the blue version says "the link has been closed because of inactivity." This happens after the games recognize that there is a link cable attached because it goes all the way to the point where it asks me to save, then afterwards it does this. I think it must have something to do with the gold version, because it doesnt seem to recognize the cable while the blue does, but im not sure.
I know that its not the link cable, ive tried 3 so far all with the same results. I was wondering if you all know of a way to fix this. Thanks a lot.
Also, if im playing gold on my gba, do i have to use the game boy color gameshark or can i use a game boy advanced one?

Activate the Time Capsule in Gold
The Pokemon on your team are from the RBY Generation only
The Pokemon from the RBY Generation don't have moves that are new to GSCI think you need the Gameboy link to trade as well. Also the requirements apply to Sliver and Crystal as well.

In order to get the Rainbow Wing in Crystal you must have beat the Elite 4 and captured Entei, Raikou and Suicune. {No trading}. Then the monks guarding the tin tower will give you the Rainbow Wing and let you go into Tin Tower.

There is no "best" starter, but Cyndaquil will probably make the game easiest for you. Chikorita is also quite good near the end of the game, but it's a little hard to get through the first couple Gyms unless you catch something like a Pidgey.

Actually, I was always under the impression that weird radio station made Unknowns appear more often when in the ruins. I could be wrong, that's just what I was always told. Unknowns are without a doubt the ultimate let down; you'd think there's something extraordinary about them, if you catch each letter whatnot... and nothing. There should be more of a story to them if they show up in D/P.
And the music IS very creepy, even for a bloody Pokemon game. I've been replaying my Crystal version, and it freaked me out last night, because I almost forgot about it.

Im Hearing Bout Pokerus N It Basicly Seems Like Ur Pokemon Randomly Get Infected With It While Battling So It Will Read 'pokerus' Instead Of 'normal' As A Status. My Question Is Does It Jus Boost Number Of Stat U Get With Level Up Or Is It Like A Permanent Vitamin Upgrade Like Calcium Iron Zinc Ect But With Random Stat That Last Forever? So It Is Mor Permanent N Less Of A Teaser Like If Ur Pokemon Jus Hatch From An Egg N Was Lvl 1 N Infected With The Pokerus Virus U Could Power Level Its Ass Up To 100 N Hav It Perform Like A Lvl 200 Since I Hear A Lvl 60 Could Take Down A Lvl 80 So Thatd Suck Cuz Itd Be Too Difficult. Then It Like If U Wana Be Really Really Great U Need Not Only Pokerus At Perfect Moment But Shiny Pokemon Ect. **** All That. I Want It To Be Permanent So Pokemon Is Mor Fun N Less Of An Intimidatin Chore. Im Hopin It Is That Latter But Im Hopin Mor For An Honest Answer N Not Wishful Thinkin.
On Less Over Dosing Note. Doesnt Pokerus Remind Yall Of Toysrus Mor Than Pokemon Virus?

March 2nd, 2007, 10:17 PM
With Pokerus, it just makes the Pokemon's stats go up faster, and there is something about Effort Points(whatever those are, go check Serebii.net). I one time had a Magikarp with Pokerus, so I gave it an Exp. Share and see what would happen(because I was training another one as well, to see the difference). In the end, Oddly enough, (never seen this before), my Pokerus Magikarp, once it got to Lv. 97, it said, for all the stats, +0. All of its stats were around 250, except for speed, which was aroun 350. My other Magikarp was still in the 100-175 range. And, Pokerus does go away, so you should always have at least one pokemon in your PC with Pokerus. It spreads, so technically, you could make every single Pokemon in your PC have it (it only spreads in your party).
And also, Pokerus does remind me of Toys R' Us, now that you mention it...

Okay, so I finally got back to playing Silver from my previous question a few pages back.
Well, I went back to the Radio Tower to defeat Team Rocket. The imposter gave me the Basement Key for the Underground. So I can go get the Card Key, to open up the shutters back in the Tower.
Easy, right?
So I make my way to the Underground and the only path TO the Underground is blocked by a Team Rocket member. I can't get him to budge.
There are two other Rocket's standing far away blocking another path, and they haven't moved either.
How do I get them to move to get to the Underground...?

Well since Crystal was the first version to have a girl character, I think they didn't change the names from Gold version. In Gold version, you'd be Gold and your rival'd be Silver. In Silver, the opposite of Gold and I think in Crystal version it was
You = Gold
Rival = Silver
Girl You = Crystal

The default name of the hero in Gold is GOLD (rival SILVER).
The default name of the hero in Silver is SILVER (rival GOLD).
The default name of the hero in Crystal is CHRIS (heroine KRIS, rival SILVER).
Mere clarification...

Okay, I'll take that answer, who in there right mind would name there children gold and silver!? But that makes me so mad that nintendo would name the rival Silver X_X

Who knows who they are?
Originaly there was gonna be 190 Pokemon but was shortened to 150, this included the Pokegod's (apparantly one looked like Charizard), Mewthree and Pikablu (now known as Marril).
Who knows some others and where I can see some pictures?

you're talking mostly about rumors. there were originally 156 pokemon programmed in, and when they ran out of room, they just left them out. Mewthree doesn't exist, missingno. and 'mblock were results of this programming, and Marril COULD actually be gotten through a glitch in red and blue, through some means of trading missingno. and/or 'mblock. just so you know, Stantler was also one of the pokemon intended to be in red and blue that they cut out. the game designers didn't even change the moves it learned when they later included it in gold and silver. if, however, you manage to get one of these without permanantly messing up your game, it will not have a name, hence "Pikablu" for Marril, since everyone thought it was supposed to be some branch evolution for Pikachu. you will have to make a nickname for them, and it will not let you cancel it. if you do, you get a glitched out block in place of the name, and your game will start to fail.

there were originally 156 pokemon programmed in, and when they ran out of room, they just left them out.Where did you get this information? There were 256 slots for Pokémon in total; when the game was relased, 151 of those contained real Pokémon, and 105 were just glitches. Game Freak easily could have added five Pokémon to the current 151 with the old cartridges.
and Marril COULD actually be gotten through a glitch in red and blue, through some means of trading missingno.Actually, using variations of the Mew Glitch may give you a Pokémon with Marill's Pokédex number. Of course, it's not called Marill, and bears no resemblance to it other than the Pokédex number (itself a glitch).

Marill's Pokemon number is 183, right?
That means that in Pokemon Blue, Marill could be a glitch called "Aerodactyl fossil MissingNo", which is the 183th (B7 in hex) in the Pokemon list, it looks like this: (Look at the bottom of this post)
Unfortunately, all the Pokemons seem to be arranged in a random way. When it should start with Bulbasaur, then Ivysaur etc, it starts with 'M (a glitch Pokemon), then continues with Rhydon etc...
Also, "Aerodactyl fossil MissingNo" sometimes looks like a "r".

I realize this probably gets asked a lot but iv been out of the loop for a while, and was wondering if its yet possible to transfer Pokemon from gold/ silver to the GBA versions (even via a cheat cart.) ?
I spent many and hour on them and the thought of having to start from scratch for the DS versions is annoying!

i know that Red and blue came before the anime, but did yellow come out before the anime too?
Cex
March 25th, 2007, 04:54 PM
I'm not sure about that one, but Yellow Version was the version most based on the anime. If it did come out before the anime, it must have come out very close to before, and the writers must have gotten the base storyline. Maybe it came out before in anime in Japan, but I think it came out later than the anime in Canada & the US.
Still, I'm not 100% sure.

yeah, the anime came first here, but like you said, Red and Blue came before the anime but not many are sure about yellow, ill have to search about it
ok, i figured it out, it says on wiki that in Japan that the Anime came out on April 21, 1997 and Yellow version came out on September something, 1998. So the anime came before Yellow, mystery solved.
>Bent<
March 25th, 2007, 06:53 PM
Yes. That's why Yellow has several parts based off the anime -- for example, the samurai kid in Viridian Forest, Damian giving you a Charmander, and you getting Pikachu because the Rival gets the other starter.

March 25th, 2007, 07:03 PM
yeah, but in the anime, Gary is revealed to get Squirtle at the beggining of his journey, not an eevee. But anyways, it said on a few web sites that the anime was based a bunch on the game, and that got me thinking, hmmmm, its prolly based on yellow, im pretty sure yellow came out after the anime, cause i got yellow a year after the other two so i wasnt sure until today

I've got a question...
In Pokemon Yellow, does Pikachu EVER allow you to evolve him? To my knowledge, I thought no... but a friend of mine said eventually he does let you evolve him. If he's right, does anyone know when exactly he lets you?

ive never trained pikachu to evolve, ive always found a pidgey or a nidoran to train up, as their evos are better, but i think its lvl 70 or higher. unless u trade to red/blue and evolve him at lvl50-60 there. then trade back and u have a raichu!" he wont follow u around though.

I was just reading this, and is this true?
1)Go up to a rare pokemon that you can see (lugia, ho-hou)
2) Save in front of them
3) battle and if its not shiny....Turn off
4) Keep repeating this and eventually you will get a shiny version (THIS TAKES
A LONG TIME AND IF YOUR NOT LUCKY THIS CAN TAKE UP TO 3 HRS TO WORK) BUT IT
WILL WORK,

Can anyone confirm to me if it's possible for a GSC game to have a battle link with RBY? I know you can use the time machine to trade, but can you battle too?
Thanks for your help, and again, I apologize if this is already posted somewhere. :)

In Crystal version my friend had beaten the Elite 4 and saved right behind the 8th gym and turned her game off. When she turned her game back on the only options on the menu were NEW GAME and OPTIONS. She started a new game, saved and turned her game off. When she turned it back on the only options were NEW GAME and OPTIONS. Does anyone know how this happend because her favorite region is the Johto region and she doesn't have Silver or Gold version.

yes, they use the EV system, but you're thinking of the DV's. the DV's are what control the hidden power, and the EV's are what control your ability to get to max stats. but since the EV's didn't exist in RBY, you can't get to max stats unless you had them there already. the DV's still existed, there was just no way to fix a bad DV.
>Bent<
April 8th, 2007, 07:44 PM
Uh, EVs did exist in RBY too. What makes you think they didn't? ._.
They're basically the same as the GBA games' EVs, except that there are 65535 for each stat, Pokemon give out EVs equal to their base stats (yes, all stats), and you can max out EVs for all stats, not just two.

sorry, i knew they existed, but they worked differently (only a little) in RBY than they did in GSC. you earn the EV points on the way up to 100, and like before, if you had extra, you could do the box trick to get the extra points. however, there was a cap on how many you could get, so if you overdid it, you could screw yourself into not getting one or two of your stats maxed out. my example is Thorn, my Venusaur. he has the max possible for HP, attack, and defense, but he has a middle DV for special, and the lowest possible for speed. because i continued to earn the HP, attack, and defense points after level 100 with him, i can no longer do the box trick to give extra points. so, yeah, there were still EV's. i just didn't think about how to say what i meant. sorry, everybody.

Hi everyone, I remember several years ago, when the color versions were the unique ones, There were lots and lots of rumors about secret pokemon, mew, missingno etc. There was a rumor about the "Masterball trick", if you pushed a combination of buttons while you threw a pokeball, the pokeball acted like a masterball so I had and have a yellow version and when I was playing, in one of my captures, I pushed a combination and I heard a sound, I holded them and the pokemon was caught, my question is...
Do you know if that rumour is true? That I heard was an ilussion? xD

May 22nd, 2007, 06:31 PM
I don't think It is actually true, But then again I could be wrong, But I cant see why Nintendo would put a combination of buttons in the game in order for the ball to act as a masterball.

Ah, it's been a while since I've played this.
I think you get the Basement Key from battling the Director (or rather, the imposter) from the Radio Tower.
You should be at the point in the game when Team Rocket takes over the Goldenrod Radio Tower, if not, you'll have to wait till later.
