Today my brother started up his Gold game, but after he pressed continue he got this message: "The save file is corrupted". Does anybody know why this happened, what is wrong and especially if there's any way to fix this? He'd rather not start a new game.

sorry Dark V. but you didint provide enoght info here. Alright well the Battery that hold the file might have died. the only way to prove thsi is to restart and save and see if it corropts again. Sadly there is not a way to save the save file in these versions. Ruby and Sapphire have back ups in case the save file corropts but they still dont help if the battery dies. But yeah the only way to truly see whats wrong is to restat and see if it corropts again, if not then yay. if yes then find your self a star shaped screw driver and hope you can find a way to remove and replace a battery that is embeded into the cartrage. Its just you typical watch battery so you can find a replacement its just getting it to work. ive only done it seccessfuly to a blue version lol.

No crud. >>

This happens as games get older and screwed with. After 365 days on RS time based events no longer occur due to the Berry Bug which is corrected with FRLG. However, being GS this may also occur with time based events but can't be fixed as easily.

So it's either due to age or some sort of bug. I haven't had it happen yet.

That sounds very similar to what happened to both my Gold and Silver--I went to play them the other day and both my save files were gone. It didn't even give me the 'continue' option. I also can't even save a game. I'll play, then save, shut my game off and when I turn it back on, there is no saved file.

So that can all be solved with just a little battery?? Good thing, because I almost threw them away!
