View Full Version : A thought on the role-playing rules...

I was thinking earlier, and I'm sure that everyone who has ever role-played knows about the four-line rule, which states that your post must not be less than four lines.
As mentioned, I was thinking. Whenever you make your post, depending on what theme you're using, the post may look like four lines or it may not. For instance, I use a theme that stretches out(Don't know what that termw ould be called ><') while some others will make PC smaller and therefore make your post smaller, causing you to have more lines.
So, I thought that maybe there should be a /sentence/ rule? For instance, maybe 5-10 sentences per post. o.O;
Sorry if this is just a silly idea, I just thought I should post it and see what the members/staff/role-players think.
So, any thoughts?

Your post should generally be a paragraph at LEAST, so maybe I'll go edit that in. oo;

I dunno, a lot of crazy people can make a sentence about. This long. And sometimes my really short sentences are for effect, fragments that make it sound really cool you know? I don't think sentences work, but if you post your thing and make it at least a little more then 5 lines, then it'll be 4 lines on all layouts am I right?
And David, if you make a rule on the paragraphs, you'll have a lot of RPer's breaking rules. I'm not pointing fingers at anyone of course I'm just pointing fingers at people. *points to me and half a billion others as a halo glows above my beautiful hair*

Actually, I had a glance and there's already a rule about a paragraph per post. It's like rule 6 or 7, I can't remember. Soo... start reporting if you see badly formed paragraph posts after today then...

I was going to add this to my original post, but I'll add it here instead. I know many individuals who already break the rules of a paragraph, so that's that. But since you put it so blantantly as to report them...
0_0 Are you sure? Be prepared then my friend, for about fifty million billion RP posts.
Btw, I'm not sure if you want to teach me this skill, but how do you report threads? I never seem to be able to find that button.
Edit-Found the single post report button.

I mean any posts posted after today that break the rule, not the 3 million from before this, XD

Okay, I see. So, report any posts that don't meet the requirements? I'll make sure I look around. XD

I still disagree with this rule. There ARE circumstances when four lines, a paragraph, whatever, is simply impractical, and will decrease post quality instead of increase it. For example, I am (so I am told) a marvelous writer, and when I get into it, a similar RPr. My writing, in either environment is concise, and so, an extended conversations, fight scenes, or several other circumstances, a paragraph is very much impractical, despite what skill the person may or may not have.

3 sentences is considered a paragraph. I highly doubt it impossible to write three sentences per post in any case. Oo
And while there may be cases where this rule is a bad idea, but the circumstances where this rule is helpful outweigh the others. I'd have no problem with two sentences if they are well written, but nothing extremely short and pointless.

Well, what if posts need to be written in script format, in which multiple players controlled by the poster have their own dialogue, as well as stage directions? Will three sentences be required for both cases?

You're not really supposed to be RPing in script format, like the rules say, to begin with. Oo

:nods: That helps ALOT Oo; but now I feel guilty for some of my one liners in the RPG area when the harvest moon thing first started... T_T... Thanks for letting us know though, I always wondered about that.
