Neh~ I've been working on a project for the last five years or so, gone through three name changes, 4 main character changes, eventually I just devoted all my efforts to the story half and hope to find a better artist for it one day.

Cool! ^^
What's it about?
Mine's about a girl named Mai Zumo whi is a geisha but wants to be a samurai.
One day, her older brother is missing and Mai takes the chance to become a samurai to find her brother. She meets two boys: Ryou Ku and Asuna Ku, who are ninjas and they decide to travel with her. And a little later on, they meet a girl revenging her mother's death named Nina Tsunwa who is also Mai's old rival from geisha class. And so, they group of four travel to different towns to find Mai's brother. ^^
I'm on volume four of the series right now and am very proud of it. Maybe I'll scan a pic of my characters sometime.

For inks, I usually use copics...which no one sells here anymore. <_< For paper, I'd use deleter size B4 depending on what I was doing. Though I was okay with drawing, setting up the actual pages was a pain. I had to go through sooooo many different techniques on how I should set the pages up, where I should place dialouge boxes and all that, I hated it. @_@;
My series is called Julies and takes place in 1904. The basic plot is back in the 1700's, there was a war tactician that engineered his own type of humans to be used in war. He eventually died, but his son took on the task of trying this out on the unborn fetus of 19 different people. Two are main characters at the start, 4 more join later. The main character's family is dead, the supporting character's family, who the main character had lived with, are killed at the start of chapter one. For the first few chapters, they're trying to find out who killed their family and that's when they eventually figure out that they aren't normal humans. If I ever do find a translator and a illustrator, I'd prefer this running in something like Month Gan Gan or Shounen Sunday as opposed to Shounen Jump. Mainly because the other two are monthly and bi-monthly so it lets you work on bigger chapters and work more story into them.

English -> Japanese
So yeah, of course I'd need a translator. XD My Japanese is getting better, but it still isn't enough to write a manga in. This is something that I seriously want to do, but before any of that can get underway, I need a work visa for Japan.

Wow... Earlier today I've been thinking about manga and making one... or two... or three.
My first idea for one is a completely original one called Reinaria. I guess it might have been mildly based off both Digimon and the "Witch" cartoon series... because it centers around a group of five women entrusted with the power of Reinaria. Reinaria is an elusive source, but what many know is its possible connections to magic and divine spirits. This is inferred from the emergence of special powers infused within the possessors of this force, each five entrusted with the power of a different element. These aren't superheroes, though--they live everyday jobs. Masuket, messenger of Wind, is a figure skater--and with this most of her abilities relate to ice and surreptitiously help her performance. Eurobatt, messenger of Water, is a library clerk and preschool teacher, but she always wanted to be a lifeguard or something because of her unique ability to turn into a mermaid. Rosetta, messenger of Fire, takes the stage--she's a singer and a bit of a dancer, on her way up to stardom. Chicadi, messenger of Earth, is a doctor--which is appropriate given her many healing abilities dealing with plants. And finally, Ferati, messenger of Spirit, is a police officer, making secret yet wonderful use of her dark and sensory powers.
--Now these five make slight atempts to keep their work secret as possible, but people have discovered what they can do, and they have formulated a bunch of reactions. One group wants this Reinaric power too, so they search the corners of the world to find some miraculous place where Reinaria dwells. However, some sort of unfortunate event always fatefully stops them...
--Yes--there is a sixth Reinaric messenger! Kiki, the messenger of... well, evil I guess--no one's really sure. She, unlike, the others, shows off this power and almost abuses it to an extent. This makes others fearful or even jealous of her.
--The school that Kiki goes to sees the Reinaric messengers as a bad omen, and many teachers want to destroy them. This upsets a few of the students though, as a few of them are sons and daughters of the messengers.
--The rest of the manga deals with a mystery: Where did Reinaria come from? How is it obtained? What will become of the messengers?
--Soon the whole town (a city in a valley called Hakushiari) builds up anxiety about the situation, where people constantly try to work out a meaning. Well... almost everyone. There's one suspicious character: Lilice, a priest in a small, humble church in a dark alley in Hakushiari, one devoted to a seemingly original and occult "faith". Lilice, unlike the others, seems perfectly calm about the situation. Will her calmness lead her to the secret to Reinaria once and for all--or does she have another identity or motive? The whole of Hakushiari waits... or perhaps even the world...
My second idea is for a Pokemon fanfic. I think it would look very good as a manga, but I'm not that experienced with manga and can't draw people that well... but...
The fanfic centers around two characters, or perhaps even one. The first is David, a fun-loving yet lazy boy who wants to explore the world of Pokemon now that he began to show an interest in it. He might have a small desire to become a champion as well... OK, he seems fairly ordinary, but then there's the possible main character: Kelsey. Kelsey lives her life under a curse by her great-grandmother Celia (who is also a trainer, and she has a Banette). She has lived it in misery and loneliness, and Pokemon seemed to be the only thing that shone a light on her life. Her main goal is to break free of this curse--she can do this by beating Celia in a Pokemon battle. However, this isn't easy as Celia allies with a new evil organization called Team Shockwave. This ganglike team seeks to cheat and to dominate, and they use Pokemon in a lot of their workings. They beef up their own Pokemon with various machinery, and they also torture the Pokemon they steal, often using some of their useful body parts for various products (for example, Chinchou's antennae make great lamps). Under instruction of Celia, Shockwave especially follows Kelsey and David around. Meanwhile they try to work their way through gym battles and such... very daunting.
**This story takes place in the continents of Aquatissea and Mire. New Pokemon are there, about 200 new ones. So in this you get to discover new Pokemon as well--especially the ones David and Kelsey have!
**This story takes some interesting turns as well. Kelsey is no ordinary trainer--one of her Pokemon helps her discover something inside her--kind of like an ability--that will help her in a way. David finds Kelsey in a tragic yet interesting sort of way. The two join up, split up for a while, then rejoin again. David is Ash's best friend but does not travel with him. Kelsey has two more rivals outside of Team Shockwave. Kelsey discovers something interesting about her family. The Pokemon professor (Professor Willow) is very unusual compared to Birch, Oak, Elm, and Ivy. Many of Kelsey's Pokemon are stolen by Team Shockwave but eventually returned. One of Kelsey's Pokemon seems dangerous and evil and almost destroys Kelsey for good. Kelsey undergoes an incredible transformation while in Mire. A highly prestigious coordinator in this fic is black--a very rare case in any anime. Old-school Pokemon trainers that appear in the anime include Ash, Misty, Brock, Professor Oak, Butch, Cassidy, and Sabrina. And... *drum roll* Towards the end, David and Kelsey have a battle, but I'm not telling you who wins nor what happens in the end...
Another one is a Digimon fanfic. It's based on the bane behind all the Digimon villains that ever appeared: Virtualmon, who lives in separate realm called the Shadow World. The Digidestined are Falco, an adventurous gogglehead with a bird Digimon named Warblemon; Katrina, who is peaceful and optimistic, occasionally speaks Spanglish, and has a flower Digimon named Flowamon; Andy, a surfer dude who is a fairly stupid lover boy and has a swordfish Digimon named Flotsamon; Zuri, who has a strong affinity for magic and the supernatural in general--she even has a ghost Digimon named Oramon. Oh, and then there's Gon, a lazy guy who likes to watch TV and has a bug Digimon named Skitomon, but he encounters some, um, problems at first and ends up at a late start... What's also peculiar is Gon's sister, Ari, who was spirited away as Virtualmon's assistant and given powers that made her a "half Digimon", though she still looked human. Other interesting character in this include Gypsymon, a ladybug-spider Digimon who eventually becomes Arukenimon and is the main Digimon villain besides Virtualmon, plus Nelly, an ex-tamer who died and whose ghost keeps shifting between two sides--while Gypsymon possesses her, at other times Zuri and Oramon talk to her. Anyways, in the end, something interesting happens to Ari as well as the fate of the Digital World--plus some of the Digidestined have interesting backstories that mildly interfere with the plot.
I already know the ending to Reinaria, but I won't tell you to save the suspense.

It does sound like it's done before, but if you can expand on it and make it better, then it'd be pretty good.
a girl named Mai Zumo whi is a geisha but wants to be a samurai. This idea itself is pretty good, it's not something that's done that much and I can't really recall if I've ever seen a series with a character as the lead.
One day, her older brother is missing and Mai takes the chance to become a samurai to find her brotherThis part does sound cliche, the missing family/friend has been done before. You should make it be a person who she's never met, like someone that's important to the family, but the main character doesn't know why. It's something that she'd eventually learn, like the person is the key to some great power or something. It's hard to just "decide to be a Samurai" especially in feudal Japan, it has the name feudal for a reason. The systems back then were all flawed, women weren't really respected back then. So for most of the series, depending on how long you want it to go, you can have her be training and trying to earn the respect of others.
^^This part does seem better. But what you can do is, have the brother be the one that sent Ryou and Asuna with the girl. They "accidentally" meet up, but the girl's brother could be paying them to watch over her. Maybe because he doesn't trust his sister, or because he doesn't think she's strong enough. If you want to add a little drama, you can have Mai figure out that her brother is paying the two boys to be with her, but have one of the boys be a love interest. He can start to like Mai or something, but when she figures out what's going on, she can think it was all an act or something like that.

*nods*
Hmm..Wow. You're quite a good helper.
These are all interesting ideas. I think I'll take your advice. ^^
I'm planning the series to be 11 volumes long. And as a matter of fact, she's training right now in volume four with her friends. So I'll definetely use it as a respect timing.
And actually, I know that women weren't respected in that time. When she first takes her brother's sword and everything, her first enemy battles her and keeps mocking her about her being a girl and a samurai. Same with the 2 boys: Ryou and Asuna. They don't trust or believer her at first, but later they realize that maybe women should be more respected.
Thanks.

Kimi...you know the plot just as well as I do....you're just being lazy!! XD busted!
Anyway, here's how our story goes...
Once there was a war that went on so long, The planet itself could not recall a time of peace, and it was so gruesome, that every thing in the planet was either used or be used.
The leader of the human, Shiroyuki, was the best sage of all. She could use any magic that she desired. She went up to the king of the saint race and before any one knew it, it was an offical battle. Shiroyuki and the king battled for a lenghy amount of time, and then, the king, seal Shiroyuki with the saint blade, a prized possesion of their race. Shiroyuki, sealed inside the wall was to remain so for ever. The king, died right after the battle.
........Year and years later, A peaceful town known as suncrest is enjoying the day...unless you are in the INN, in that case, you're freaked out by a girl setting up christmas decorations in the middle of summer. Three people walk in and question the girl. The girl's name is Kimi (yep! This is where she got her name!!) and the three people are Yamako,Maho, and Huji. Kimi gets hyper and send Yamako flying into a wall. (and boy is he steaming!!) Kimi introduces herself to Huji whom has just now met her. Maho walks over to Yamako and keeps him to the point where he isn't going to kill kimi.Kimi, Maho, and Huji all help unpile the rubble from him, when Kimi snse's something werid. (her being a quater cat demon gives her strong senses.Maho is a pixie *human sized Yamako is a human and Huji is a giant.) The emtion passes by, but Kimi is still alert. 5 min. later she slashes at a hurling flamethat comes towards them. When the flame is gone, her town is completly messed up!! Water is flowing out of the house,The houses soild walls are carpeted with thick, hard ice, fire engulfs the land, and vines are wrapping around everything! (I have to say this kimi says this "Woah...if that wasn't going to be the last thing ever I was going to see, that would be really cool!" XD) They run through the town and all of the sudden, rain starts to pour down..and the fire is still going. Huji mound Yamako and Maho on his sholder and goes to put Kimi on but...she's a swinging monkey on the vines...-_-;;
Yamako says that he has an idea, but he has to leav temporaily, he ask kimi to get all of the vilagers and place them on the highest thing. (the water is already up to Huji's knees.)
She resuces them and puts the on the Inn. The wind is blowing veriously and the rain just gets worst by giving off hail. Suddenly, she hears Yamako and looks up. with him now is a huge dragon. People jump on it in a state of panic and as soon as they lift off, the Inn collapses. They fly calmly in the air, but it begins to snow. People are beginig to freeze. Maho the send out flames, She then warms them all as they go to the shirne moutain. There, they find the elder and he gives kimi the chalange of unsealing shiroyuki...why? She's the only vaugley demon creature and Maho must heal and warm up the crown. Yamako give kimi the dragon which she ends up nameing Nina. Before she leaves, the elder tells her to unseal the maiden, but no the sword. Confused, she leaves off... In the ruins, she notices a room with a huge hole in it. Nina comes flying in and help get up to the ridgid sword. She then pulls, but it doesn't come out. She plays with it for a mintute, pretending it's the lever that you are never suppose to touch in her town. (*it's something meanigless at the moment, don't ask.XD) she imitates the elder and it falls right out. Shiroyuki is unsealed and starts to attack kimi, shortly, she realizes that kimi is not her foe whom she was fighting years ago. Shiroyuki snaps her eyes open and asks her how she unsealed her. Kimi tells her and Shiroyuki dashes outside. The land looks like nothing happened. Kimi cheers but Shiroyuki looks at her sadly, they head back to the town and notices that something is not right....the whole world has changed!! When she sees Yamako, the very boy whom had protected her as a kid, bullying another child, she saves the kid and yells at him. Obiviously, he doesn't even remeber her. The Maho comes in and she's wearing leather pants chains and a tank top. Something she would never ever wear. Huji comes in and he still seems nice enough.... Kimi and Shiroyuki walk outside,Shiroyuki explains how now, her old world is gone and the new world that they are in now is corrupted by an evil soul. It is affecting everyone in the world and just becuase they act nice doesn't not mean they will not become enraged. Kimi confronts Yamako angain and when he refuses to talk to her, she slaps him and runs to the seceret hideout that Yamako himself made. (it made it into this world!) Yamako is shocked that she knows of this hideing place and begins to talk with Kimi. Of course he calls her crazy and slaps her on the back really hard. Later that night, something come in the village....it looks like a demon creature. It begins to attack the town, but it is easily taken care of ...the next day, Shiroyuki and kimi head out. They belive that if they can find the leader of the world, then it can retuurn to normal. Nina stays with Yamako and Maho becuase of the panic it could cause.walking off they have this liitle discussion I find adorable!!
Kimi: Here we go!!
Shiroyuki: yeah, yeah
Kimi: I bought supplies!
Shiroyuki: So did I
Kimi: really?! Why?
Shiroyuki: i doubt yours will be of any help.
Kimi: HEY!!!
Well....that 's a summary of the first chapeter and prolouge!! In the next chapter comes the first guy....he's funny becuase even though he's really nice, his corrupted soul is the worst...he'll kill anything...friends,foes,masters,complete strangers....but yeah...a verrrry long post and yes, I am well aware of the sPeLlInG eRrOr'S and grammar. May I join this club? I currently am totally free, it's spring break.
I've tried several mangas, both doujinshi and original
I'm not really good at doing original mangas but I can do them fairly well when I write the story out as a novel and then manga-ize it.
I'm working on two original series and one that's from a regular book series. That last one is the farthest ahead. I already did two chapters!
Well about these two stories: it's an interesting situation because they both cross each other's path somewhere along the line and both characters affect the other characters' lives.
I'll tell you about both stories in a seperate post because both storylines are so confusing and long that they'll leave you with your mouth wide open. And I swear, they are very unique. In fact I have yet to hear a manga or anime with a similar storyline

another XD for that witty quote -_-
This forum is going soooo slow today
Well here goes
The "doujinshi" I'm doing is on this series, it's the Baby-Sitters Club
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Babysitters_Club
I dont want to explain anything though because I have enough summary-writing to do.
The Night Troupe: (keep in mind, I made this group when I was only a 6th grader). TNT's really a gigantic family living in a huge palace which they turn into a school to show the community they're willing to help out their neighbors. And keep in mind, the family isn't Catholic, the mother just was very open-minded and wanted a LOT of children. And when her sisters and brothers had trouble, they'd send their kids over to the palace, kinda like an all-year-around summer camp. Every character had a relationship somehow with another character and so many characters fell in love.
These stories are so contrived that it's adorable. (to me atleast). They really take you away from real life.
The star character Bella is based on my first female crush. Bella got married three times and divorced three times (slut! XD) She even married her brother! XDDD
Of course everyone thinks Bella's a brat. But Bella will hear none of it. Bella has slept with most of the boys her mother has taken in (the non-relatives).
Trip, the brother she married late in the series has always liked her. He teased her a lot with the help of his sidekick Nick (another brother). And not only has Bella fell in love with too many boys, but Trip fell for loads of girls. (I honestly think they could've been a hot incest couple) (spoiler)they broke up at the end of the series and Bella went for one of her past sweethearts(/spoiler)
This story is about how the Night Troupe's current generation was born, how everyone joined, all conflicts that aroused, love, drama, death and even some stuff that was very unexpected. In this series, different cultures are present and very contrived things happen like the time the group's plain crashed in the middle of a desert in Arizona.
(spoiler) it was a pain in the arse ending this series(/spoiler)
The Legend of Cherry: (her first name's really Cheryl but she never says so)
You could say this series is a spinoff series of TNT but not exactly.
As cliche as the story name sounds, it was perfect. Cherry's life is based on mine and her neighborhood is also my neighborhood. (Actually, the Night Troupe formed my middle school in the series) Cherry was born and raised in a family of eight (no, they're not Catholic either) And her brother James has always looked out for her. Whenever Cherry asks James if he's her brother or cousin, he always says, "Cherry, I'm. Your. Brother." But he sounds really hesitant. And to be honest, I dont even know who he is really)
When Cherry is ten, her parents move from the world they live in to my neighborhood and Cherry attends my schools (only middle and high schools though). Cherry also finds out that she is a gifted singer. At her school is where she encounters Bella and from then on, her whole life changes.
This story follows Cherry from her 10th April fool's day all the way to high school and is still following her as we speak.
BTW, I'm being really vague on the storyline because I dont want to confuse any of you.

Sorta. I started the manga five years ago, over the years it went through a LOT of changes to get to what I have now. If you're serious about them , over time you find out what does and doesn't work and what readers will like more. In the five years I've tried, I've made one doujinshini. It was 25 pages and took me an entire summer of working almost all day on. Of course, I was young and didn't know what I was doing really, but it gets easier as you go.

My story was okay, I didn't really dislike anything about it. The art was hard though, drawing manga isn't really like just drawing. You have to stay inside set parameters and you have to make sure the entire picture will look good, fit the word bubble and enlarge or decrease in size well.

Probably should, more than one project at the same time's very hard. How long is each volume? Most don't have 12 chapters, mine would only have four since the chapters are longer than weekly chapters.
Midori Chi
April 16th, 2006, 09:17 PM
I've done it before. ^_^ It's not all that hard really, but I'll still wait though. XD
I usually have 3-4 chapters per volume.
Each chapter is about 30 pages long.
btw: I like the new username. XD
Ryoutarou
April 16th, 2006, 10:43 PM
That's kinda short for a chapter actually, most chapters that are 30 pages are like that because they run weekly. So it'd work better at 7-9 chapters per volume. Mine would be 3-4 because they're usually 40-60 page chapters.
And thanks XD
Midori Chi

What's it about? XD
lol, well i didn't have enough time to explain it but here it is:
These two sisters Carmaire and Zori live in this world called the DarkFire. There is another world called Light Water. the two planets were both one but when the ancient gods, water and fire got in a fight over who owend the planet the planet seperated due to the fighting. Since then only the strongest warriors called DarkFire soldgers and Lightwater Soldigers go into battle every 100 years and train for a while. Ususally only men could be fighters but some women have become fighters too. Each fued ends ina draw with neither side surrendering. Which ever planet wins, the god gets to rule it (water wins, then ater rules both).
The two characters Carmarie and Zori are forced by their mother to become DarkFire sodigers in place of their father who died of an illness(he was in training to be a warrior). So the two girls baisically are training to become DarkFire Soldigers so they can battle in the huge war^^
As I said I have yet to draw it, i've been busy makin up the characters and story line.

Something I forgot to ask, is 30 single or double sided? As in, you have 15 pages, but art is printed on the back as well, or 30 actual pages?

Well I had an idea on how to be pretty original, yet not being too original at all. It's interesting, really
I call it taking advantage of all art styles in anime. You choose a style to suit a character. A tomboy would have basically the same art style as a character from Pokemon. A snob or a rich person who took care of themselves would have ultra sparkly eyes and really detailed hair. I hope I got the point through.
That's the style I use, actually.
Yamato-san
April 21st, 2006, 09:49 AM
hey, Kazuhito, you recommended 30 pages per chapter, 7-9 chapters per volume. Doing the math, that's about 210-270 pages per volume. It makes sense, I've seen several tankoubon measure in at that count. However, when you asked if Midori Chi meant a page is each individual piece of paper, or if each page is each side of paper, it left me to wonder.... what did you, yourself, mean? You were referring to pages as each side of paper, right?
Anyway, I still need to develop my artwork. I don't have a template, or a scanner (and if I did, I'd hate to waste paper and get ink and graphite crap all over my hands), but until recently, I thought I couldn't work with a mouse, until I realized that, by tracing over the same lines repeatedly, I could develop a sketchy pic, which I could then edit. I'm still waiting to borrow a copy of Photoshop, though, so I haven't worked much with it. However, I did observe and sketch a couple pictures in MS-paint using that mouse-tracing method, and I think they turned up pretty alright. 'Course, I'm hoping, if my artwork ends up good at all, that I can give it a genuine manga effect rather than just looking like your typical digital art.
So, Kazuhito, you need a translator, eh? Personally, I'm a bit more confident in my language skills than that. I'd feel comfortable with just a proof-reader (native Japanese one, of course, but not someone who outright translates my English for me, in any case). And yes, I'm hoping to make a doujin originally in Japanese, not Japanese translated from English.

sometimes, it brings out a humorus scene in Azumanga Daiho, the evil cat always crunched on sakaki's hand and left an fear of cats, she in the end, ended up with a cat. But the evil kitty will always remain evil..in a humorus way. it added a conflict and light humor, but sometimes, yes, the animals will just ruin the comic as it is.

I have a big weakness I need help with
how do you draw kids? I'm working on my BSC comic and since the series is based on kids, I need to draw them. But everytime I draw a 6 or 8 yearold they look like a twelve or thirteen yearold.
It's terrible. I can only draw preteen/teenage girls.
kimi_catdemon
April 26th, 2006, 08:30 PM
Try to draw them with a 2 or 3 head to body ratio...
you draw one head then stack a body up, equal to about 1 or 2 of the heads. If all else fails, draw them with some what wide heads and foreheads, small pudgy bodies, **MAKE SURE THEY ARE SMALL!!** and make their hair a bit more fuller... that's all I can think of...
Reine Blair
April 26th, 2006, 08:58 PM
That sounds tough but try making then short as kimi said and then yes fullness for some reason makes them look kiddier. Then give them young clothes, maybe make their eyes a bit bigger and make their rxpressions more animated.....hope that helps^^
Midori Chi
April 26th, 2006, 10:15 PM

So these two neighbors, a twenty yearold guy and a Japanese school girl are talking to each other. The twenty yearold tells the JSG who's name is Joanna all about history stories. Only these history stories have comedy twists and can be suggestive. I think the movie it's based on is History of the World.

Well, so far I've only planned a few things. I'll tell you what I have so far, though. XD
Title: Amai (sweet)
Genre: Romance/comedy/fantasy/action
Plot:
Akina is a fairy with the purest eyes of her people, and fairies aren't usually like that. So, they tell her she should be an angel more than a fairy and ofcourse, she gets sad about this. And so, she goes to Earth so she can make her eyes more "unpure." The fairies think humans are dirty sinners.
On the other hand, there's a guy who has the complete opposite problem.
His eyes are too "unpure" and he has trouble deciding to be a soul-taker or a demon. He works as a commander for a soul-taking team and goes to Earth to do his job as well as make his eyes "cleaner." He thinks humans are clean un-sinful beings.
And so, the two meet and Akina joins the soul-taking group.
That's all so far. XD

Though I can't read it. TT

Though I can't read it. TT
If you get it on a photo-editing program and zoom in then you should be able to see it
Or just read this
Panel 1: Ben: Hey Joanna
Panel 2: Joanna: Oh, hey
Panel 3: Ben: Dont you ever wonder where things came from? Like how those plants were first grown?
Panel 4: Joanna: I guess so... really I dont think about stuff like that
And the "issue" is supposed to have 4 panels on every page that can be split into mini-panels or whatever I can think of.
4koma-style manga rocks!
Midori Chi

Yay! =D
It's awesome! One of these days I'll see if I can scan one of my pages as well. XD

I'll see if I can scan some work one day...in the mean time...;_; *draws vigoruosly* I can seem to draw better at school...it seems to add atomsphere....^_^

Guess what!? I'm done my first mini story. I named it Chapter 1. Now tonight before I go to bed, I'm going to start chapter 2 "How Fire Was Discovered". I hope I make it funny enough.

May 9th, 2006, 09:56 PM
ME <3 funny manga!! I live for it!! XP I hope to see it soon!

I wish I could see it ;____; I bet it's great though and can't wait to hear about your other chapters, and I love funny mangas as well^^
kimi_catdemon
May 10th, 2006, 09:56 PM
I just realized that I'm only good at Fanart...it just scratches at me until I get it right...man...no wonder I can't draw good on my own..that fire is missing.
Midori Chi
May 11th, 2006, 02:47 AM
Funny manga is well, funny! XD
Yay! It sounds like your comic is going well so far.
Fan art, eh? Fan art is really good practice. Sooner or later, you'll learn to do more than just fan art. I started off drawing Sailor Moon fan art when I was 7,
and now I'm able to draw and be proud of my artwork. XD
kimi_catdemon
May 11th, 2006, 08:50 PM
I can draw original characters, and they look good, but it's the outfit part and the storyline that always gets me...;____;
Midori Chi
May 12th, 2006, 03:57 PM
Outfits are challenging, but fun. And same with storylines. XD
I face those same problems, though. ^_^
Reine Blair
May 12th, 2006, 11:29 PM
I love drawing outfits, it's actualy one of my strong points in drawing^^ (my teacher said i had a professional drawing style with them and I spent about 30 seconds on each outfit because they were late and i had to turnt hem in XD) As for the storyline, I try to think of that before hand then I end up changing my mind half way through it XD
kimi_catdemon
May 13th, 2006, 05:18 PM
I can make beautyful magical girl outfits, but that's it...XP My guys are usually in a T and jeans..
Keizah
May 13th, 2006, 06:09 PM
I can draw people well...and my outfits are good, I just have a hard time drawing them ON the character. It's the folds..i either make things look unantural of too soft.
Crystal Clair
May 13th, 2006, 06:17 PM
One of my newer problems
1. Drawing the perfect layout for the perfect scene
2. Showing perfect expressions for my characters.
3. Variating boys' clothing and hair. I seriously have a problem with giving boys distinctive looks.
Right now I'm working on the Baby-Sitters Club manga. And knowing how to draw boys is a necessity for drawing the BSC manga.
Reine Blair
May 13th, 2006, 11:27 PM
I hate when I try to make my boys lok different, they always have the same hairstyles as well and yes my guys are also in jeans and a tee-shirt 9theres not much you can do with them because they don't wear very detailed outfits XD)
Midori Chi
May 14th, 2006, 05:53 PM
My problems:
1. Even though all my girl characters have different personalities, hair styles, weaknesses, and strengths, the faces look somewhat similar to eachother. Same with the boys.
2. T-shirt and jeans for boys. I agree wit' yas.
3. Paneling. They're always line under line under line.
4. Backgrounds. Ugh...All I can draw are tile floorings and trees.
kimi_catdemon
May 14th, 2006, 07:40 PM
My number one problem is getting GUYS to look like GUYS!!! XDD They always look like girls...expressions are easy for me.
Midori Chi
May 14th, 2006, 08:17 PM
Well...What I do is, I make the eyes have no eyelashes and make the eyes really small. Like..bishounen or something..One of these days, I'll scan ya a pic of one of my characters and you'll know what I mean.
kimi_catdemon
May 14th, 2006, 08:21 PM
Okay! I keep drawing mine, but they alway turn out looking lie a girl...so I said the heck with it and put a cross dresser character in my manga...XP
Midori Chi
May 14th, 2006, 11:21 PM
Really?
Well, it's unique. ^_^
kimi_catdemon
May 15th, 2006, 09:21 PM

Midori Chi
May 16th, 2006, 01:46 AM
That sounds cool.
Wow, I'm really excited for this summer.
It sounds like the contest will be really fun and challenging. ^_^
Reine Blair
May 16th, 2006, 07:24 PM
yep^^ I hate backgraounds as well, because I either draw them out of proportion with the characters or I just plain mess up on it ;; THe expressions with the guys aer okay on minebut I wish guys had a variety of stuff they could wear!!
kimi your character reminded me of Ritzu^^
kimi_catdemon
May 16th, 2006, 09:03 PM
I thought that too last night!!
Right now I have Princess tutu fan art, but that's it.....I have some original charcters that are meant for it, so I guess it's good...
I'm planning on drawing a short little comic with some other random charaters. I'll draw them during the finals with all the free time I'll have!! :P But Mine are bound to be the funny type....I live for deh funny!! XDD
Reine Blair
May 18th, 2006, 10:32 PM
same here^^ me shall draw during my free time too, I only have one final a day then no final :) I do a lot of FB fan art but i guess I culd draw some originals as well for a comic^^
Midori Chi
May 19th, 2006, 01:12 AM
Yeah! Good idea! I will too! ^_^
kimi_catdemon
May 22nd, 2006, 08:14 PM
I'm starting on drawing a fan comic....me and keizah should start on the original comic that we have planned when I gain more confidence in my inking in ablities....;__;
Does anyone know a good way to practice?
Midori Chi
May 25th, 2006, 09:27 PM
With inking?
Hmm..
I would draw random rough sketches and take a regular school pen and trace carefully. And after paracticind a few times with a few drawings, I would make the real thing and ink it.
Though, the inking pens I use may be different from the ink pens you're talking about. ^_^
kimi_catdemon
May 25th, 2006, 11:17 PM
I use black gel inking pens..i guess it's becuase the ink is slippery...I can trace with a marker just fine, but it bleeds everywhere..;_;
Midori Chi
May 26th, 2006, 02:17 PM
That's happened to me before as well.
And then I'll see a huge splotch on someone's face and I'll go,"Nooo!"
kimi_catdemon
May 26th, 2006, 06:42 PM
I know that void to..My inking goes so well, the I ruin it becuase one tiny area isn't completely dry....;_;
Midori Chi
May 27th, 2006, 12:57 AM
Yup, yup.
And I believe that happened just quite a few days ago for me. TT
kimi_catdemon
May 27th, 2006, 05:03 PM
I put white out on it, but it's just not the same, you know?
Anyway, I think I may take a fanfiction I'm reading and make it a comic...that would be funny! I'm starting to practice on my inking...But I don't do it too long becuase i have other things to do...
Midori Chi
May 28th, 2006, 02:18 PM
Cool. ^_^
I only ink when making covers for my comics. XD
kimi_catdemon
May 30th, 2006, 05:38 PM
I'm thinking about doing that since I'm only doing my comics on typeing paper. I could aslos ink in whenever I want to do something in color...In that case...I should start on a comic soon!! XD
Keizah
May 30th, 2006, 06:15 PM
If that's the case, we can finally start on OUR manga...We just need to find a meeting place...in any case, I'm still trying to work on the proportioning of the charcters. I always make their legs too long or short.
Midori Chi
May 31st, 2006, 03:01 PM
Yay for new comic! XD
Proportions? I remember I had problems with that a long time ago.
With legs, it's better to have them long than short.
kimi_catdemon
May 31st, 2006, 04:34 PM
Yeah, that's true...I found a cheap set of color pencils (only 12) That work well. I seem to use them alot. ^_^ they blend well!
So when's that thing going to start? I have Fanart, but that's about it..*to lazy to make a comic* XDD
Reine Blair
June 1st, 2006, 01:21 PM
I havent posted in a whil ;; I don't know when we shouls start it but lets see when we would all be able to get near a scaner XD and same here I have a bunch of fan art, i'm still trying to decide how to draw my characters XP
Midori Chi
June 1st, 2006, 02:54 PM
Yup, I use the cheap pencils too. The ones in 24 packs. They work great. XD
Hmm..Before drawing characters, I write down what I want my character's personality to be like. I write down things he/she hates, likes, hobbies, goals, etc. When I have that down, it gives me an idea of what my character should look like. For example, if I had a girl who was hyper, loved animals, peppy, etc..I would have a girl with big eyes and piggy tails holding a puppy and such.
Reine Blair
June 2nd, 2006, 01:56 PM
That's a good idea, maybe I should try writing down their intersts first^^ I also use very cheap pencils XD but hey they get the job done right?
kimi_catdemon
June 2nd, 2006, 05:33 PM
I do that too! Or i draw them and think of their personsality WHILE drawing them. XD I can't win..but the irony is that I taught keizah how to draw...now she draws better than me...XD I still win at paint though...which is useful to me becuase I like to color.
Midori Chi
June 2nd, 2006, 06:38 PM
Teh heh. ^_^ I've taught people how to draw too, and they're really good. XD
I'm not good at paint. TT That's awesome that you can do that. XD
kimi_catdemon
June 2nd, 2006, 07:56 PM
I recently got a kodak program on my computer..it's fun becuase I can make color books pages...The best ones are screencaps..It make coloring alot eaiser and more exact!!
Midori Chi
June 2nd, 2006, 08:04 PM
That's awesome! =D
Oh! And guess what I found out yesterday?
One of my teachers is friends with the owner of DC comics and they said I could submit a manga. And if it was good enough, they could make it into an actual manga! ><
kimi_catdemon
June 2nd, 2006, 08:28 PM
That's awesome! I wish I knew the right kind of people...like that..I envy you...If it does become real, I'll look for it!!
Midori Chi
June 2nd, 2006, 08:35 PM
Thanks. ^_^
I'm still not sure if I should do it though...0.0
Oh! And have you heard of the Rising Stars of Manga Contest that Tokyopop holds every year? I asked my mom and she said I could enter it this year.
Reine Blair
June 3rd, 2006, 01:29 PM
CHI THAT'S AWESOME ^__________________^ and oooh I'm entering that too this year(my mom told me about it XD) andf as kimi said if it comes real me will look for it as well^^ If you don't do it now theres always later if you still want to right? Just do what you want^^
Midori Chi
June 3rd, 2006, 03:18 PM
Yup. Yay! I'd do the same as kimi said as well. ^_^
That'd be so awesome to see a comic made by anyone of ya someday.
Reine Blair
June 3rd, 2006, 04:18 PM
I know and if we told anyone we knew anyone of us, they wouldn't beileve it XD. I always thought it would be cool to do a manga, my parents said maybe a few summers from now I could try to get an internship there OO that woudl be cool because along with doing stuff they also could teach you to draw better^^
Midori Chi
June 4th, 2006, 02:52 AM

I can draw manga, but the eyes are the easiest part for me!
Reine Blair
June 4th, 2006, 03:56 PM
Wel thats cool^___________^ I can draw eyes, it's just that sometimes they end up un even ;;
kimi_catdemon
June 4th, 2006, 04:40 PM
I've decided that me and Keizah will start on our comic today...Might not be on as much, but we should have some done..XP
Midori Chi
June 4th, 2006, 05:33 PM
Yup. Eyes are fun, too. ^_^
Though I also sometimes have the problem of making them uneven. XD
Yay! Good luck on the comic! ^_^
Reine Blair
June 4th, 2006, 07:17 PM
Yes good luck on your comic^^ and getting some dne is good! I hate when i make the eyes uneven >: so when you guys start drawing what do you start on? I tend to start on the nose, but I was wondering if there was a better way to start to even out the face XD
kimi_catdemon
June 4th, 2006, 08:18 PM
It's hard for me if I don't start with the head. Then I make the neck to long or short. Too wide or thin. I start with the head shape.
Reine Blair
June 4th, 2006, 08:52 PM
I've tried that a few times but then everything seems out of proportion and my heads are unbeilievably boring and shaped too dull. That problem makes it hard to try and make the hair cool ;;
kimi_catdemon
June 4th, 2006, 09:49 PM
I make the hair look cool by makeing it look flowing in the air...I've finished the prolouge and chapter1 script!! XD
Reine Blair
June 5th, 2006, 02:47 PM
Hmmm. I shouldprobably try a new technique and look for the hair XP and CONGRATS on finishing the prolouge and chapter one^_________^
Midori Chi
June 6th, 2006, 02:22 PM
I also draw the head first.
I think of it a a slanted line to the left, a slight curve downwards, then going up and then a slanted line to the right.
(did I say that right? XD)
Then I draw the neck, then the shoulders, then the arms, then the lower torso, and then the legs. And after that, I add on the details and then go back to the head to draw the eyes, hair, and whatnot. XD
Reine Blair
June 6th, 2006, 02:31 PM
Sounds easy enough XD maybe I'll try it that way this time^^ and yeahit sounds right witht he face descriptions^^
Midori Chi
June 6th, 2006, 02:52 PM
Okey dokey. XD
Hope it'll help. ^_^
kimi_catdemon
June 6th, 2006, 04:08 PM
I went to a water park with my family yesterday...I also took pictures of thing that would be intresting to draw in the manga....
Midori Chi
June 6th, 2006, 06:07 PM
That's a great idea. =D
What kinds of pictures did you take?
kimi_catdemon
June 6th, 2006, 08:58 PM
I took some of a pirate ship, a castle area, pretty flowers, so people photos (you need SOME memories) And alot of diffrent angle pictures of people who were flying on a swinging thing. *do you know what it is? I'll see if I can find a picture to tell you when I google it..*
Midori Chi
June 6th, 2006, 09:14 PM
Cool. XD
I know what you're talking about...
kimi_catdemon
June 6th, 2006, 09:20 PM
That's good...XD anyway, it's for flying scenes and I took a large water pool scene. along with a rope run way for being inside a pirate hideout (which I took a picture of)
Midori Chi
June 6th, 2006, 09:42 PM
That sounds awesome. ^_^
I'm sure it'll be great.
Reine Blair
June 7th, 2006, 01:29 PM
Great idea kimi and that swing thing is fun^^ anyway that was prertty smar instead of trying to think of how the boat would look you could imporvise off the piture^^ Well good luck on your comic with it^^
kimi_catdemon
June 8th, 2006, 11:56 PM
We have a problem...we can't think of a title and it's bugging me and Keizah..;_; it's an action packed manga with the fact that kimi, (that's me!) unseals shiroyuki and merges Kimi's PRESENT world, a barren land with peace, and shiroyuki's PAst version of kimi's world, which was lush and green but with war.
The war restores and the people become aggresive. The peole are that of kimi's but have a corrupted soul inside of them. This corrupted soul is their version of Shiroyuki's world. (so in other words, their past forms are sealed inside of their present selves.) Kimi and shiroyuki are the only ones not affected...or are they? Georage, a bandit doesn't seem to be affected either, but then that means he shouldn't exisit..(mystery!!) And yujo can suppress it fully, but when it does emerge, it's one of the worst...XD (Irony..)
Need more info? I'll update later...I'm the one that says how it is progressing..=D
Reine Blair
June 11th, 2006, 04:55 PM
Oooooooooooooooooooh sounds neat ^0^ I'm sure you'll think of a title. Usually once you start writing and drawing it out, as well as think how it's going to go on, the title will just click :D
kimi_catdemon
June 11th, 2006, 05:25 PM
Well character designs and all were layed out before, but we edited it up a bit and then we finalized the character design...i might put a ppicture of a rough draft of the cover soon!
Midori Chi
June 11th, 2006, 05:32 PM
Awesome! That sounds so cool! >_____<
*excited*
Yup, I agree with *Princess Seraphia*. XD
You'll come up with a great title. I'm sure of it. ^_^

kimi_catdemon
June 12th, 2006, 04:20 PM
I like the shock part...but I'm not so fond of the culture...O.o or is it just me....anyway, If I'll think about it...Oh yeah! Keizah said the panels aen't going to be 4 sided boxes..instead, it's going to be lines that form a box...(she says they're way too hard to do and too time consuming for printing paper...( =D )

I've finished the illistration of the cover and the first page of the prolouge...;; sigh...Now I need to color it in....
Reine Blair
June 12th, 2006, 05:21 PM
Ooooooooooooooooh I bet it'll be pretty and I never color in my drawings......well i actually did color on one of the covers (thats baisically the only color thing in mangas right XD)

well, the thing is, "culture shock" is an actual term (which is even used a bit by the Japanese). Here's the definition, courtesy of dictionary.com.
culture shock
n.
A condition of confusion and anxiety affecting a person suddenly exposed to an alien culture or milieu.
I thought it'd be a good title since with present and past worlds intermingling, obviously, there'd be some severe differences in the two cultures.
kimi_catdemon
June 12th, 2006, 08:19 PM
Hmmm..Okay! I think I'll use it! =^_^=
Evil twin: you still can't think of anything, can you?
*waves a tiny white flag* ;;
Midori Chi
June 13th, 2006, 01:17 PM
Coolness. XD
Yay for coloring! The only times when I color are with the cover, the introductions, and the chapter pages.
Keizah
June 14th, 2006, 12:25 AM
SOB!! Someone spilt some tea or soda on the cover draft...;; (oh well...the first page is safe...>_< I'll redo it later...)
anyway, do you guys mind if I use pencil shading for screen tone replacement?
Midori Chi
June 14th, 2006, 01:47 AM
Oh no! I hate it when that happens. TT Whatever color stain it might be or what ever shape it's in, I'll find away to make it an advantage and make the splotch a screentone of somesort or something. XD
tee hee. That's what I do. Pencil-shading, I find, is much easier. XD
kimi_catdemon
June 14th, 2006, 02:16 AM
yeah...^_^ laugh ! Wait...why should i laugh...oh well...*draws some more* I'm working on shading techniques...(our cover will be lucky if it is inked in...)
Midori Chi
June 14th, 2006, 02:45 PM
Yay for shading!
I'm not very good at shading...TT
And yay for your cover!
I'm sure it will look great. XD
Keizah
June 16th, 2006, 03:59 PM
okay, I have an offical annoucement to make...
I'm not sure if it is the atmosphere I am drawing in or if it is me, but I can't seem to be satified with what I draw...(I crumppled up my last few drawings.) So I'll pick up on this project later...I can't seem to draw anything that I can be happy with, so I guess they call this "Artist block.."
kimi_catdemon
June 16th, 2006, 07:08 PM
=OOOOOOO
No way!! You can't do this to me...as terrible as my shading is...=D
;_____;
any ideas for what I should do now, sister?!!!
Midori Chi
June 19th, 2006, 01:21 AM
Aww..I hate it when that happens...TT
On days like that, I read a few really good manga with great animation and a great storyline and such. It makes me get that good feeling and I feel like drawing and drawing in my sketch book for awhile. After that, I'll feel happy with them and I'll go back to my comic...
kimi_catdemon
June 19th, 2006, 03:11 PM
I might start a fan comic...fan art is my specialty!! =D
Besides...all I can draw right now are things related to Princess Tutu;;
Obessions have ups and downs...=D
Midori Chi
June 19th, 2006, 03:42 PM
Yay for fan art! =D
I've drawn Chi a few times. That's pretty much it when it comes to me drawing fan art. XD
Oh! I just finished a chapter in my comic yesterday! I can't wait to start working on the chapter page. XD
kimi_catdemon
June 19th, 2006, 04:38 PM
I should start a ballet comic...maybe I could post it here too! (I draw even if I think it's bad...) XDD
Keizah
June 19th, 2006, 05:06 PM
...oh haha, I'm trying, I guess I just need to draw something diffrent. The same thing gets boring for normal people, unlike kimi who can go on the same topic for years...
Midori Chi
June 19th, 2006, 06:57 PM
A ballet comic sounds cool. =D
If you really enjoy it and am happy with it, I don't you'd get bored of it...
Right? 0.0

June 19th, 2006, 07:17 PM

How's you get the screen tones?
Well for starters, I added them after I scanned and cleaned my picture
They come as preset patterns in PaintShop pro and you can angle them and layer them to make even more screen tones. It was a pain in the butt resizing the image and then figuring out that selecting the area and converting it into a layer to separate it required having the image at it's original size
I dont blaim you if you only caught half of that. I can barely read it!

I don't think I have paint. I wish I did. TT You can actually get the trial on the internet by googling it. And even when you have to buy it, it's like only 25% as expensive as photoshop. It's usually around 100 to 150 US$. It's much easier than Photoshop but extremely underrated.
I have a little tip for all of you. I do it all the time
I warn you though, this is gonna be one big post
You know how storylines in mangas are usually more complex than simplistic cartoon stories. Like for example a comparison of cartoons compared to manga storylines would be:
(the demo will be about the classic "ball goes over fence" story.)
Cartoon/comic: boy is in a little league baseball team. Ball flies over the fence one day. Boy and friends try to figure out ways to get the ball back and to not get caught by the ball. The kids are caught by the man who lives in the house of the yard, who everyone thought was cranky but turns out to be really nice. Kids get ball back. End of story
Now a manga story would go like this:
boy is in a little league baseball team. Ball flies over the fence oneday. Boy and friends try to figure out ways to get the ball back and to not get caught by the ball. The kids are caught by the guy.
It turns out the guy secretly plays baseball and doesn't want anyone to know so he takes the balls that fly into his yard and uses them so he doesn't have to buy them himself. His wife and kids secretly know though but dont want to embarrass him. Some complex things happen with the family and it turns out one of the kids is a member of the little league team and never said anything. (and other complicated things like that)
Well, the thing I do is, I take a cartoon series like the Fairly OddParents and I convert the childish, cartoony story into a more deep manga-style story. For example (yes another example) I made Timmy's sitter Vicky be not as strong as antagonist as she was originally. In fact she secretly wants Timmy to do his best and not end up like her. The reason I made for her being a mean sitter was because she was a teenager failing in school and sitting for Timmy was her only escape from her home and all she wanted was peace.
However, I have not watched much of this series so for those who have and have just read this, my conversion may seem like bullshat but I'm just using information I found on the internet.
I wrote all this analysis up because I felt this would help people who were drained on a good storyline and would help other people develop their stories better. In fact this advice can not only be useful for mangas but for fictions and fanfics too.
Good luck
