Because Feraligatr’s Special Attack sucks for a water type. 79 base Sp. Attack? Not gonna cut it. Just because a Pokemon gets STAB from a move doesn’t make it a good idea. Look at Sneasel. It’s an Ice type, but giving it Ice Beam is a bad choice since it’s Sp. Attack is pathetic.

And by experience I know aragornbird is probably never going to close this thread due to the fact that chances are Synchronize and Mullet are aragornbird's best friends. Regardless of what you two lovers have for each other, it probably is of topic.

There's also Torrent, which you are forgetting. When it's in the Red, it's Special Attack will be like it was originally 118.5 from Surf, which could make a handy comeback for when it's dying since it has no way of ripping itself apart.

Torrent does not boost Special Attack, it only boosts the power of Water moves. And even Torrent won’t be enough to let Feraligatr do enough damage with Surf. Let’s not forget that Feraligatr is pretty slow, so if it’s ever in the red zone, it’ll be easily finished off by a faster opponent. The only Water move that Feraligatr can actually use is Hydro Pump, which could be a substitute over Return to handle Skarmorys.

Well, for what it's worth, I think that Salac Berry could be a replacement for Leftovers on Feraligatr. With the Speed boost and a Swords Dance or two under its belt it's actually not a half bad sweeper. I do know that shorties has done some serious damage with a Rock Slide/Earthquake/Brick Break/Swords Dance build, although I'm not sure about the EVs. At any rate, the Leftovers aren't doing it any real favours, IMO, since Feraligatr is pretty pathetic defensively. Just a few thoughts...

Have you seen Gatr's stats? it actually fends off plenty of attacks well, tbh. Brick Break honestly wouldn't be needed, as Rock Slide and EQ combined take on what Brick Break covers, and then some. Hydro Pump/Return/HP Ghost are more viable options.

That's not to say Salac isn't cool on a feraligatr SD set, that's just why I put in leftovers.
