I've thought of this several times before: What's the pokemon world?

Is it in the future, an alternate dimension, or some strange combination of the two? :\

This is a very interesting poll. :3 Hmm...I would think of Pokemon as a combination of the present and the future. For one thing, they have systems that can teleport Pokemon right out of thin air all the way across oceans and continents. There are other futuristic aspects of Pokemon, like the pokeball for example. That seems pretty darn high-tech if you ask me. I can't say we have anything nowadays that can house a living creature in a span of a three-inch width. XD

Although there are more present aspects in Pokemon as well. Such as the buildings and houses and stuff. They look pretty modern (well, to an extent XD) They have regular automobiles like we have now too. X3

So yeah, I'd say it's a mix of present and future. Not sure about the "alternate dimension" thing though. XD;

I always thought Pokemon was in the future...

Basically, a war broke out somewhere in the timeline, where countries had to use ABC weapons. Because of this, only a few survived, and Earths environment was pretty screwed up.

But of course, over a couple of hundred years things started getting better, and as a result of the Atomic/Biological/Chemical weapons which were used during the war, new animals started emerging, overpowering the remaining "old animals".

These "new animals" are what are concidered to be "Pokemon".

Basically, my theory says: destruction -> rebirth

I always thought of it as another world or something. A world much cooler than ours most definitely.
