You can use any picture editing program. If you look into the Help File, and do a search for Image Specifications, you should get the dimensions that the pictures need to be.

Here's what I do when I need to rip graphics from GSC/FRLG: I run VBA in its x1 form, then when I get to the part of the game that has what I need, like Ecruteak's Tin Tower structure, I hit Alt+PrintScrn, and put the pic into Paint where I already have a chipset open. Then, I just surround the VBA paste with 16x16 squares, and rip away.

Pandoras_Angel - just open paint and start spriting or look for templates and just fell them up. or you can search for spriting tutorials on how to make tilesets or characters like for coloring or customs :).
ok well does anyone have any character set that has a cape, pokemon style.

Open up paint and make a sprite,
Simple as that. There are quite a few templates out there for charasets. Oh and theres this http://charas-project.net/charas_ex.php?lang=en .
And please don't avoid the character limit ¬_¬. It is there for a reason.

Dashiel please if you can't help properly, don't post.
Anyway, for making charsets and tilesets you have to follow some rules concerning width and height and position. Since you changed your likings to Rmxp (as you told me on msn), I'll explain the basics:
A charset in Rmxp is like this:
01 02 03 04
05 06 07 08
09 10 11 12
13 14 15 16
Each number represent a frame
01~04 (down)
05~08 (left)
09~12 (right)
13~16 (up)
Each frame must be 1/4 of the total width and height (can be any size).
For tilesets, each tile is a 32x32 square. They must be dispose like this:
01 02 03 04 05 06
07 08 09 10 11 12
and so on, with infinite vertical squares. Just be sure to have 6 horizontal tiles.
Thats it for making a charset, tileset.
(and yes I know I already explained to you on msn, but here people can read and won't need to ask again)

It's there so we don't get tons of spam posts only containing "lol", "hi" or "XD" for example. It also forces people to actually do a little thinking before they post.

If this is breaking a rule please delete this but this is a gray area questoin. Is it illegal to make games and let people play them with the not paid for rpmxp

do you mean your still using the trial or you obtained the serial with out paying? either way i dont think its illegal..how you obtain the serial is your issue...people are still allowed to play your games..

Requesting again... does anyone have an overworld battle system for RMXP (so you can just press a button, and an attack fires and hits an opponent {don't worry, I already have the whole enemy HP and hero HP thing figured out})?
Also, I managed to put in a jump system, but the character always jumps twice. Is there any way to fix this?

It is against the rules to discuss (or provide a link to download) RPG Maker XP.
It is not against the rules to make a game with the illegal version.

Ultima Shadow - you can just search for an abs(action battle system) theres 3 scripts I know that are abs but I don't know the links but I know how made them. one is near frantic(or something like that), um...oh yeah shark_tooth(he made the best one), and I prexus or something like that :P. yeah so just search but i'm not sure if there still out because I only saw them on rmxp.net but it want down long ago.

I've had nothing but bad experiences with script... it's ruined my older game. For now, I just need a way to prevent double-jumping, the rest is fine (for now xP)
ENCLOSED: A screenshot of the Common Event I'm using. In case anyone's wondering, I'm making a Mario RPG that doesn't have many RPG elements... sorta like a cross between Superstar Saga and Sonic Battle.

$width = 240 * 2
$height = 160 * 2
part to something higher. That makes the screen 480x320... you may want to put 640x480 to get original res.

That was the first thing I tried... but it still didn't work! >:O :( RMXP must hate me or something... right now, I have RM2k, RM2k3, RMXP and GM6 (I hate it, though)... which one would be best for this purpose?

I'm new to this, so you have to explain step by step for me ^^;;
I want to make the size of my map bigger, is there any way I can do that other than the default size they give for RPGmaker XP? I'm very new and just trying to do basics... like events. ^^;;
Oh, also.
I have an idea for a game, but the thing is- it will take way too long for me to do with the proper pokemon pictures e.t.c. and my plot doesn't really require it. I also like the RPG XP maker graphics for water e.t.c. and characters- if I edit and work with them, would all of you still like the game (because it still is a pokemon game) but without the images that have been branded into the original game by nintendo and gamefreak. Or should I attempt with pokemon graphics?
Thank you for your time. PM me if you can offer more basic help as some of the tutorials I don't understand at all- particularly this link that I followed for syntax... >_> I'd be very grateful.

Changing the Map size is pretty easy. Just right-click on the map you want to change, and click on "Map Properties". Then, in the next pop-up window, there should be something that says something like: "Dimensions". The lowest you can go is 20x15. But you can make the map bigger.

I remember with another version, (back when I used the illegal version) it worked.
Although, I copied the "Scripts" file over before I started work on the game. And they look like they're from the illegal version. :o

Now this is weird. I was placing some people on my map (I just placed the people on, and made the action button activate speech - that is all) but when I test my game, they have allmagically teleported to the top left corner of the map, which is unacceible. Please help me!

i recently downloaded rpg maker xp
so i downloaded the rpg maker xp starter kit..
when i hit play no text shows up whatsoever, i'm not sure why.
&whenever i try to play demos of games made with rpg maker xp, no text shows up.
so it's pretty confusing not knowing what i'm doing& i don't understand why none of the text works, so if anyone has any clues...i'd appreciate that very much :nervous:

I was wondering if someone knows a place where they have maps of the cities from G/S/C? I need it them for a remake I'm working on.
(PS: If you could also recommend what map sizes I should use for them that would help too, I'm using RMXP with a FireRed chipset ;))

You can't really change the font in Rm2k3 as far as I know. If you want to, you'd have to edit some config files in your game's folder. Then use a program to make a custom installer that would automatically install the right font into the Windows/Fonts folder for people downloading games.
I've never tried it myself.

Can someone give me chipsets for G/S/C in the GBA style for Rm2k3? I see them in GSC remakes but I don't know where to get them. I tried converting the parts of the RMXP GSC chipset, but I couldn't do it.

I have a big problem! In RMXP, I suddenly can't tin't the screen anymore!!!
I had the same issue. Are you using the StaterKit? If so, we can appearantly choose to be able to tint the screen or have the anti-lag script.
Or so I have been told...
Can someone give me chipsets for G/S/C in the GBA style for Rm2k3? I see them in GSC remakes but I don't know where to get them. I tried converting the parts of the RMXP GSC chipset, but I couldn't do it.
People mostly just use the FRLG graphics and slightly recolor them as far as I know...

I think you put \n[1] for the first character in the Database, \n[2] for the second, etc.

Okay I'm making a CMS and I've come across a problem.
On the Menu part where you can view your pokemon stats and switch their order... When I enter that Menu and hit down it doesnt go down to the 2nd select, but rather the 3rd selection. Afterwards though it works fine...
Check my attachments for the Coding of the menu(Its a picture) and 2 pictures.

Also does anyone know if theres a tutorial on CMS where you can move up, down, left, and right. I know theres a ton of CMS tutorials, but i can only find ones that allow you to move just up and down..

It's something like the normal berry system in pokemon: I pick up a berry in the current day, and the soil gets empty. The next day a new plant grows and in two days another berry is ready to catch. Do u think u could help me with something like that?

Man, that event is big. Makes me sleep just by looking at it... =p
@Fblaster: hmm, that's easy, but you'll need something to calculate the "days". Once you have that, you just add 1 to a variable each day. When the variable is equal 2, the event will show the berry.

Well, but i need it to loop. I have a time system, but it is adjusted by the real time, so I can't just add a day to the variable. The best way is to make it wait 24 hours to grow. But I don't know how to make the event wait for 24 hours.

Here is my question:
RPG Maker XP is set to loop BGMs continuously. What I would like to know is how can you make music repeat from certain points.
For Example:
Here is my music for the battle with Lance in Pokemon GS:

Oh... sorry, but it isn't that what I need... I need a map done in RMXP, not a tileset. Thks anyway Dashiel, but I have all the tilesets I need. What I needed was a small project with the map of pallet town. But I have done it already. I might be opening a thread about my project soon.
Now I need a script to change the actor's graphic while he is running. I have the running script, I only need to know how to change the graphic during the script execution.
And since I'm at it, I also need to know a way to keep the hero from moving until a serie of events ends.

2 map editors who are capable of taking map instructions e.g I need a town with 3 houses to random people and 1 gym make it grassy (basically if u can make a small town out of that information lol and it looks good then ur hired)

I'm not sure where to put this, but I've got a question regarding a bit of coding in RMXP. I'm making a rather non-traditional Pokemon game, with no CMS or CBS, however, one thing I am using is a party of six. I was able to change the max party size to six, and have rearranged the windows accordingly, and everything actually works quite nice, except for two things.
1. In the battle window, I do have all six characters' info(name, HP, etc) on the screen, and the command box does pop up for each of them in the right place on their turn, but oddly, only the graphics for the first four appear. I thought it might be an issue with the spacing on the screen, as that was the issue with the command window, but it's not the issue here, because the graphics are still perfectly aligned with each battler's information. As you can see in the screenshot (below), the first four battler's images are right there with their stats, but the fifth and sixth battler's images aren't there. And yes, I already checked to make sure that the fifth and sixth had battler images to begin with.

2. In the menu, I did get each of the six characters' status and sprite to appear, but there is a problem with the sprites. The right and bottom edges are cut off. I've tried moving them (and the text) around in the window, but it hasn't mattered. And yes, once again, I checked to make sure that their sprites didn't actually look cut off to begin with.

so im using the starter kit, and i decided to use Diamond and Pearl sprites but they were big so i resized the screen to be nintendo ds sized instead of GBA sized my question is:
Where is the bit of code that allows me to change where the battler sprite is located?

OK guys, here it is:
1) I need Pokemon Ranger Trainer and NPC sprites, and tiles also. So, you might say I want all Pokemon Ranger I can get my hands on :)
2) I also need custom tilesets(also known as chipsets) that are available out there. Larger ones(more tiles) are preferred,since its hard to make a game with a few buildings and some grass tiles ;)

so like i mentioned before i changed the size to DS sized, 244x180, i know its not true DS size but it looks good. Im using the starter kit, heavly modified tho, neway the resoultion script now has a sort of glitch because of the screen size, lol, if someone who know about it could be kind enough to help me solve it, attached is a picture, reduced down, of the glitch. see how the map recycles its self well i dont want it to do that.

For the first problem, open script editor (F11); go to Window_Message and scroll down the code until you find a line like this
self.back_opacity = 160
Adjust the 160 according to your needs (255 -> full opaque; 0 -> transparent)
To solve the second problem, open script editor (F11); go to Window_Base and scroll down until you find the "normal_color" method. It's something like this:
def normal_color
return Color.new(255, 255, 255, 255)
end
The numerical values are in RGB (255,255,255 is white). The last 255 is gama (don't bother that).

Erm, the last is the Alpha value, not gamma :P. It is just the color's opacity/transparancy value ^^. THe higher the number, the more opaque.

The starter kit you give has a problem. It text is white in colour and the window skin is also white colour. So I cant see the text.

It's okay if you use. I don't mind. This is the Help topic, so we are here to help. I'm trying to help those beginning to mess around with scripts, so yeah, I guess they don't need to use alpha in colors SINCE it's optional and MAY confuse them.

Some question, is it possible to create HM without using script?
I create Pokemon Trainer without using script ( coz i act like as an item ). I use these command:

Ive been looking around for the mystery dungeon sprites of all the pokemon for about 20 mins (it takes a while on dial up) and uhm, i was just wondering if someone could put a link for me or tell me where to find it or something, i was working on a game a while ago and then my computer decided to be broken, but the mystery dungeon sprites will be very helpful, and better than what i used to have.
Edit: Also, why arent any of the attached images showing? I was looking through the last 4 or so pages (which takes quite a while on my comp) and only one attached image loaded. I just need as many FR/LG pics as possible for either rpg2k3 or xp (i havent decided what im gonna use). If someone could just give me a link or tell me page numbers or something, and what is this "resources" post i saw mentioned in earlier posts? I could definitely use some resources, lol.

I just found this uuber great site for charasets, theyre not letting me post urls, so ur gonna have to figure this one out ("charas", dash, "project", dot, "net", slash, "resources", dot, "php") (remember, the stuff in quotes are strings and the stuff not in quotes are variables =]) so yay, i didnt see it anywhere else here, so i thought i'd let you guys know... And i dont now why i have the sudden urge to play pokemon snap... also theres not a lot of charasets for XP if any, it looks like there for 2k and 2k3 (if 2k3 uses the same as 2k, i havent used 2k3 yet, i just got it).

The starter kit you give has a problem. It text is white in colour and the window skin is also white colour. So I cant see the text.
The Started kit has some bigger problems, like that i downloaded it three times and each time it said the zip was corrupt. (sorry for double post)
Edit: It worked on the fourth time :)

Again, does anyone have an Abra (and family, if possible) charset for RM2K/3? Someone offered to help me, but nothing yet...
Whoops! I'm sorry! I forgot about that...anyway, i've attatched the Abra family sets.
On another note, does anyone have the actual Animé cries for anyof the Pokémon. I'm not talking about the ones in the GBA games, but the ones in the TV series, like Pikachu saying 'Pika, Pika!'

I have the same problem, and i put the Pokemon RS font everywhere i can think of after i installed it, so where the hell am i suposed to put it :/

Oh, ok, but then wouldnt ne1 who plays my game need to get that font and put it into that folder on their computer in order for the game to work? That could get annoying, and actually, im having trouble with something else that has nothing to do with rpgm but its making it very difficult to use rpgm and its going to be a very long time til i can fix it (like til april) so ima go try hacking lol.

Hmmmm... I just can't seem to find battle animation sprites for Pokemon, I've looked for about a week or so and can't seem to find any. Could some one give me a hand with this? If someone can rip them for me that would be great, I'll mention you in my credits!

Erm, well in RMXP it is possible trough script, but you would not be allowed to do it automaticly in RM2K3 if you do not pack your game into an installer.

With Pictures and a variable :D.
I don't know how experianced you are with those. But in general hyou should display 2 pictures (the menu and the selector) and base the selectors y position of an variable. When you press don you increase the variable etc. When you press enter, use fork conditions to check the value of the variable to open the menu item.

I'm working on a game and each time i go to the house i start in it keeps asking for my name and gender so i was wondering if anyone can explain how to set the switches

Well, say you have the place where it asks your name and gender. After you do that, have it turn on a switch called "askedname+gender" or something, and turn it on. Then, make a new page, and have its precondition set to that swtich being on. Then add the coding for the things you want to appear for after the player has been asked for name and gender.

That variable is used in Game_Actor and Scene_Battle classes.
I've take a quick look on it, but it seems that this variable shows or hide a pokémon when you're in battle.
If show_pkmn is false, the pokémon sprite will be located at (0,-100) (offscreen).
Sorry if I made any mistakes here, I'm in a hurry ^^

This happens to me sometimes, double click the little Speaker icon in your Task Bar and turn up Sw synth if it is turned down.

I got a question about wich program to use to create games ?! i have allready used RPG Maker 2000,2003, and Xp but it seems other programs like Sphere and GameMaker are more flexible.. so wich one do you guys recommend.. Sphere,Gamemaker or one of the RPG Maker series .. ?

Weelll I find that the RPG Maker series are best, however I'm a lazy bastard for learning Gamemaker and Sphere xD. RPG maker is more for the beginners I find but it can do some amazing stuff in the right hands. Sphere is definately more complicated but it is much more flexible and dynamic, it will also make your game look a lot more professional (don't ask why, it just does.)
@Budgie: I have no idea, it was in one of my old project folders.

Go and download the Starter Kit, it has a lot of Revamped and Re-Created Pokémon G/S tilesets (Including New Bark.)

You go to the Graphics folder, and search for what tileset you want. Just copy and paste on your folder's project.

I would like to see the 'old' Dash answering this one.
Well, there is a Graphics folder inside the Starter Kit folder. If you have a mouse, you go and double click the yellow folder. Then new folders will appear. You go and click the Tilesets folder. There you go, all the Tilesets you might want.

However, when I test-play my game, my sprite goes under certain layer 1 terrain tiles but goes over the other layer 1 terrain tiles

What's going on here? Does it have to do with priority of the tiles?

Yeah, it's your priorities that are messed up. If you go click the Priorities button on the Tileset tab in the Database, it'll show you your priorities. For every ground tile you have, or tile you wish to be able to walk on top of, make sure that it's priority is off, meaning it's just a square rather than a star and a number.

Import the tilesets via the Materials Manager.
Then go into the Database and select the Tilesets tab then add a new number onto the Maximum via the "Change Maximum" button. Once in your new tileset choose your tileset that you imported in the Tileset Selection.
You can then use Passage to set weather the player can pass through the tile or not and Priority tell the tiles if the Player goes over or under them.
