View Full Version : Battle Frontier Discussion

I figured it was time we all discussed useful teams for each of the seven Battle Frontier areas. I'm currently thinking about the Battle Pyramid, since that is the most annoying for me, and you'll probably need to change your team for each round to match what Pokemon you are facing.

For the first round, which you face paralysis, I was thinking of the following:

Gligar
EV: 252 Speed/252 Att/6 HP
Nature: Adamant
Earthquake
Quick Attack
Aerial Ace
Rock Slide/Swords Dance.

Earthquake can help with the electric types, and Aerial Ace for the Grass types.

Phanpy
EV: 100 HP/252 Att/156 Def
Nature: Adamant/Impish
Earthquake
Return
Rest
Counter

Mainly for the Pick Up ability, I was pondering with the idea of training up a Phanpy to help take on those Electric types. About the only other thing they can do is Quick Attack or Slam.

Hitmonlee
EV: 252 Speed/252 Att/6 Sp Def
Nature: Adamant
Earthquake
Brick Break/Hi Jump Kick
Return
Meditate/Swords Dance/Bulk Up

Limber rocks.

Bliss could just use aromathreapy or heal bell so you could just trade a chansey :\

True, but the problem with that is the limited PP, at most I could get 8 uses out of Aromatherapy, and even with Natural Cure, that won't last too long to help the rest of the team. The thing about the Battle Pyramid is you don't have free healing each round like most of the other Battle Frontier arenas, and are severely limited in items (which is where the Phanpy idea came from).

Anyway, here is a list of what you will face in each level of the Battle Pyramid:
Paralyzing Moves
Poisoning Moves
Burning Moves (also face Brandon for the first time on this level)
PP Wasting Moves
Levitate Ability Pokémon
Non-Escape Ability Pokémon (Shadow Tag and Arena Trap)
Freezing Moves
Explosion and Selfdestruct Moves
Psychic Moves
Rock Pokémon (you face Brandon the second time around here).
Fighting Pokémon
Weather-Altering Moves
Bug Pokémon
Dark Pokémon
Water Pokémon
Ghost Pokémon
Steel Pokémon
Dragon-like Pokémon
Fire, Water, Electric, and Ice Moves
Normal Pokémon

After the Normal types, you start again at paralysis, assuming you want to carry on this far for the Battle Points.

For the second run of the Pyramid, I got the following as an idea:

Snorlax
EV: 180 HP/192 Att/88 Def/50 Sp Def
Nature: Careful
Trait: Immunity
Return
Shadow Ball
Curse
Rest

Curselax, just cos it's so good.

Zangoose
EV: 252 Att/252 Speed/6 HP
Nature: Adamant
Trait: Immunity
Return
Shadow Ball
Quick Attack
Taunt

Taunt has interesting potential.

Metagross
EV: 100 HP/252 Att/60 Def/96 Sp Def
Nature: Adamant
Trait: Clear Body
Meteor Mash
Shadow Ball
Earthquake
Rock Slide

More than one way to protect against poison.

Softboiled can also heal the other team memebers if you do go with blissey.

I guess Blissey is relatively useful, since she has access to Aromatherapy/Heal Bell and Softboiled for team healing purposes. I'd rather prevent things happening rather than sort it out afterwards, prevention is better than cure as the saying goes. Blissey can work for the Battle Pyramid, although it's not a style I'd prefer for it.

Anyway, team idea for round three, where you face not only burn attacks, but also Brandon's first battle. I was looking at the following for team ideas:

Houndoom
EV: 252 Sp Att/212 Speed/44 Att
Nature: Rash
Trait: Flash Fire
Crunch
Flamethrower
Endure
Reversal

EDIT: All three of Brandon's Pokemon are weak to fighting, so Reversal works a bit better.

Starmie
EV: 252 Sp Att/252 Speed/6 HP
Nature: Timid
Trait: Natural Cure
Surf
Ice Beam
Thunderbolt
Recover

Natural Cure woot. Should do some damage to Brandon's Regirock.

Hariyama
Nature: Adamant
EV: 144 HP/180 Att/68 Def/108 Sp Def
Trait: Thick Fat
Counter
Rest
Vital Throw
Protect

I was gonna use Breloom, but since I'm going L50 style I can't achieve Spore. Anyway, this bad boy is reasonably tough enough to take on the Regis, Vital Throw mainly for PP issues over my usual choice of Cross Chop. Protect is if I predict Regirock's Explosion

EDIT: I forgot I could get Spore if both parents knew the move. This means I have to get a male and female to L54, but it'll be worth it.
