Will pokemon be tradeable from FR/LG and E/S?

I don't think think this deserved its own thread... But yeah, they will be.

Yes they will, but obviously you can’t trade new Pokemon or Pokemon with new moves back.

I agree, this is sort of pointless. But anyway, they will have trading capabilities. Maybe they'll even have battles and mini-games(pokemon jump and dodrio berry picking) capabilities, but that's going a bit too far.

I find all this very confusing. Allow me to present a scenario?
I have a version of Emerald, packed with Pokemon I'd like on either D/P.
I have a version of FireRed, also packed with Pokemon I'd like on either D/P.
I have two DS lites and I (will) have both Diamond and Pearl carts.
Can I trade my Emerald/FireRed Pokemon to the new games?
Is it just me who finds it awfully confusing..
(By the way, newbie here - so be gentle..)

Okay, this is how it goes:
All R/S/FR/LG/E Pokemon are tradeable to D/P. In D/P there are some R/S/FR/LG/E Pokemon, so you can trade those for your oldies.

Yes, but I can trade over wi-fi given that they are both inserted into DS's?
I've (and everyone else I expect) only ever traded Pokemon via cable on the Advance and Gameboy before that.
So how would the older generation games (in this case FR and E) communicate with D/P?

Actually, you'll be exchanging data from the GBA port of your DS/DS Lite to the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl DS Card, supposedly.

Oh, so - it'd just be a cart-to-cart sort of thing?
How would that work in-game so to speak?

We don't know yet. I assume we'll have full details closer to the release of the games.

Yeah, that's what we've heard. You only need one DS, a GBA cartridge(R/S/FR/LG/E), and a D/P cartridge.(supposedly)

I'll get to trade in my fleet of 350+ collected Pokemon, kyahaha. Getting close to t3h compl33t collection. I'll trade in my battle team and be ready to rock whatever post-story extras await me.

Don't expect to be able to do that until you reach a certain point in the game. I expect the National Dex and enforced functionality of the National Dex system will be carried over from FireRed, LeafGreen and Emerald. The PokéDex you receive is the "Shinou PokéDex", hence my rationale to the theory. It may appear just like how the Hoenn Dex was managed.
Slot 2 in the Nintendo DS serves not only for Game Boy Advance games, but is an accessory or add-on port. DS Games may be programmed to communicate data between what's in Slot 2, and Game Boy Advance games may be expanded upon. Remember, a Game Boy Advance game may have optional expansion and data transmission (like Pokémon Colosseum to Ruby/Sapphire). Ruby and Sapphire in question aren't programmed to recognise Pokémon Colosseum. All they have is extra data space for placing data in the cartridge's battery RAM for extensibility, and all Pokémon games are like that. Hence, any game, if programmed to, can theoretically tap into that architecture and allow the game to do different things.

Good point.
And aye, I don't plan to transfer my fleet in right away. That's why I said post-story extras.

It might even be a straight transfer......no D/P pokemon needed............
