Save Problem on Gold and Silver

I went back to play my Pokemon Gold game a few days ago and I had just beaten the first gym and saved and stoped playing for a little bit. When I came back, my saved game was gone. I got my Silver game to see if it would save, and the same thing happened. Has this happened to anyone else, and do they know how to fix the problem?

Oh god that happened to me too I HATE that. My Gold version got run over by a car but my Silver erases itslef every time I save the game adn turn it back on. I thought it ws from over abuse of the gameshark but...(my hands are tired now) now I know it wasnt only my game...yay...I think...
