What good does the White Flute do?

I spent about 30 minutes getting the stuff to get one. I got one, and used it, but I can't tell any difference in the encounter rate. How much does it make a difference, and did I waste my time? :|

Indeed, sometimes I use it and in 3 steps I encounter one. But I thought it would be a like Sweet Scent... (This is my first White Flute)
That's why I'm hoping someone will give me a multipler, like x0.5 .. And if the Black Flute sucks as bad as the White Flute.. :|
Oh well. Also, how many steps does it take for them to wear off? Complicated questions, that's why I didn't post it in Simple Questions. :)

White Flute: Play this glass flute to encounter wild Pokemon more often.

Black flute lowers white one raies, no wonder you are using white flute and getting more pokemon...

Stop being cheap and buy repel

I've tried them both, but I dont see much of a difference either :\

I guess no one cares because no one uses those flutes. It’s because Repel exists and Sweet Scent exists. =\

I have researched this and cannot find a definitive answer. Sorry. As everyone else has said, Repel and Sweet Scent are much better choices anyway. To be honest, none of those flutes are very useful.
